The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region
Glenvarloch is in Perthshire, with the local council being Stirling County. The property is overlooked by An Sheaan part of the Ben Sheaan peak and is located in a glacial valley now mostly wooded. The 'Munro's of Stuc o'Chroin, Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich are all within easy distance of Glenvarloch.
There are several cycle trails nearby other than the C7 which takes you directly from the house to either Killin to the North over the Glen Ogle viaduct, or to Callander and Aberfoyle to the South and South West.
The area is steeped in ancient history with the City of Stirling being the site of the battle for Stirling Bridge made famous by Mel Gibson in 'Braveheart' and the new Pixar movie 'Brave'. The magnificent Stirling Castle and William Wallace monument are located within 25 miles.
Numerous local walks and cycle trails are available almost from the doorstep, and with the property being 'pet friendly' there should be no reason why
The Cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are within easy reach less than 1.5 hours by car.
The climate in Strathyre is unique - it being part of a North/South glen which can channel the weather in Winter, and yet protect from the worst of the Westerly winds at other times. It is best to be prepared for all 4 seasons - there being no such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing !
Within 300 metres of Glenvarloch is a part completed 'Broch' - an ancient dwelling house. The property is within strolling distance of Loch Lubnaig and a short drive brings you to the Falls of Leny, Bracklinn Falls and Callander. The spectacular Falls of Dochart at Killin to the north also feed off the sometimes inclement weather - so any rain has a positive effect ! Fishing is available in the nearby Balvaig River (permit from the local shop) and at numerous locations nearby. There are a number of excellent Golf courses nearby including St. Fillans, Comrie, Callander and Gleneagles is only 52 km away
The village of Strathyre has an Inn and a Restaurant, with the nearest 'The Inn at Strathyre' being less than 200m away.
Skiing at Glencoe Ski Resort barely 60 minutes away on priority cleared 'A' road.

Really enjoyed our stay at Glenvarloch. Very clean, well equiped but managed to feel homely as well. Pub across the road was welcoming. Very quickly on to the cycle paths as well.
Many thanks for your comments ! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Best wishes, J&G

"Beautiful Holiday Home"
Our stay in this beautiful holiday home was enjoyed by all including our two bearded collies, who enjoyed the walks straight from the front door. A well equipped cottage, with everything you need and more, there was also a nice bottle of red wine left for us upon our arrival, this was very much appreciated after our six hour journey, thank you. Lovely meal at the Riverside Inn in Calendar about nine miles away and they welcome dogs which is a bonus when the weather is bad. The housekeeper was very friendly and checked to see if we required any further assistance. The only problem we had is that we all had to return home and leave this beautiful cottage. Thank you so much again.
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay & many thanks for your comments. Excellent local cuisine can also be had at Mhor84 in nearby Balquhidder or Creagan House a short walk from Glenvarloch. We take the responsibility of enabling guests holiday's seriously and appreciate that you left the house in excellent order. Best wishes, J&G

"Lovely spaceous house"
This house was perfect for us. Lots of space, but still cosy, with a very well equipped kitchen. The location was great, right on the National Cycle Path, and close to lots of levely walking.
Many thanks for your kind review. It's always good to hear when folk have made the most of the location and facilities of Glenvarloch. Best wishes, John & Glenise

Once again not disappointed with our stay, this is our third visit at different times of the year and once again weather has been kind. House warm and inviting on arrival great base from which to explore Scotland or just relax with good food, wine & company Great local walks and benefit of delivery by supermarket took the hassle of having to take supplies with you Our dogs had a great time too and just like us, were sorry to leave Will definitely be back

"Amazing house in fantastic location"
My group of friends and I found Glenvarloch to be absolutely amazing. The house, the location and the overall stay were more than we expected and we left happy. The house is in a small village which has a couple of amenities and is handier than staying in the middle of nowhere. The first think we noticed was the backdrop to the house - the hills and lochs around make for amazing scenery and we will be looking to book Glenvarloch again in the future. Thank you.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for the review. J&G

"A great well equipped base to explore and walk the local area."
A lovely well equipped house with plenty of space for everyone and good value too. The kitchen had plenty of cutlery, cups, equipment etc for a large group. A good range of electrical goods eg fridge/ freezer, washer, drier to ensure its home from home and useful with little ones. Good wi-fi reception too. Nice size bedrooms with comfy beds. The children enjoyed the jacuzzi bath too. Even thought of the four legged friends with a small dog bed and bowls. A good base to explore the local area. Nice walks around strathyre, aberfoyle, Milton, braeval and balquidder. Close to cycle network routes too. Bring OS maps to help guidance to explore. Glencoe ski resort within an hours drive- the children enjoyed sledging ( only need to buy a chair lift ticket). Overall a great place to re-energise and would recommend to friends.
Many thanks for your excellent review. It is very rewarding to read of visitors who have made the most of Glenvarloch's facilities and location - even proving how easy it is to get to Glencoe Ski Resort and enjoy the Winter weather ! Best Wishes, J&G

"Excellent place to stay, modern build with great character, highly recommended."
We stayed Monday to Friday on fieldwork, mapping soil types in Strathyre Forest. Wish we could have spent more time enjoying this holiday home, full of character and very warm and cosy. Lots of space and a great location, we didn't want to leave.
Many thanks for your positive comments. Glenvarloch is a great place to come back to, especially if the weather is a bit damp, fab showers and cosy underfloor heating. Best wishes, Glenise & John

"Another fantastic holiday"
Batteries recharged, two happy West Highland Terriers , more new memories can't wait to go back SOON
So glad you enjoyed your 3rd stay at Glenvarloch ! With such a variety of places and activities to see and do on holiday, including walking, cycling from the doorstep, a variety of excellent local Golf courses, fishing, and access to the hinterland of Scotland within an easy drive of the house, it is a pleasure when visitors confirm this by booking again. We would be glad to have you back ! Best wishes, Glenise & John

"Superb holiday home in a stunning location"
It would be hard to say enough good things about this place. It is a beautifully designed and built property. It is comfortable, spacious and equipped to a high standard. There is plenty of living space so, even though most of ground floor is open plan, you don't feel you are on top of each other. Through out the 2 weeks we were there the Wi-Fi was faultless. We especially loved the bottle of wine on arrival, the TV/DVD player in the master bedroom and the whirlpool bath. It did feel as though a lot of thought had gone into equipping this house, so it had everything you would need for a great holiday. As well as being a lovely home, it is in a beautiful part of the world and ideally located for visiting the Trossachs and the southern highlands. There are great walks from the front door and a cycle route runs past the back of the house. A river also runs close to the house and my husband and son took a canoe down the river to Loch Lubnaig. You are a short drive to lots of other sites and a 90 minute drive to Fort William if you want to climb the Ben. The whirlpool bath was particularly welcome after we had done that. It felt a real treat to stay in this place. We left Glenvarloch with heavy hearts but with very happy memories.
Many thanks for your great comments - we're so glad that you enjoyed your stay and made the most of the excellent location !

Great place to spend a weekend with friends, only wish we could have stayed longer. Wouldn't hesitate to return to this lovely warm and homely house. Surrounding area at this time of year is splendid (autumn is our favourite time). The only downside for a few of us was no wifi, even although the pub across the road from the house had wifi. However still had a fantastic weekend.
Thank you for your comments. Wi-Fi is available via EE /Orange (dongle) as described in the joining instructions, and is now faster than the available broadband speeds in the 'Highlands'. Glad this did not detract from your enjoyment and the information sent prior to your stay allowed you to enjoy your time at Glenvarloch to the full. Best wishes John & Glenise
