The Central England / Cotswolds / Warwickshire region

Stratford upon Avon is a great base to stay and explore the surrounding area. Here are a few of our suggestions however the local tourist information office is a short stroll from the cottage.

Warwick is an historic market town and the castle offers an interesting day out.
Spend a day in the Cotswolds visiting Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stow on the Wold and combine this with several National Trust properties including Hidcote Gardens, Snowshill, Charlcote Park and Upton House and gardens.
The cotswold guild of craftsman in Chipping Campden showcases the work of local artists and craftsman.
If you are a committed shopaholic then the Birmingham Bull Ring and canal side development is a short drive or train journey away as are the towns of Leamington Spa and Oxford.

Stratford upon Avon area

Rydal Cottage is just 200 yards from Shakespeare's birthplace (can be seen from front door) and gives you unrivaled access to all of Stratford's many tourist attractions, great shopping (Stratford still has many individual non chain shops), the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the many special restaurants and pubs of the town.

We'd recommend trying the open top bus tour to get to know the local area or take a river trip along the Avon.
