Heritage Mews is a beautifully appointed cottage with a VisitBritain 5 star rating and Gold award for "exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service". The comfortably furnished sitting-dining room opens onto an attractive private courtyard garden. With fully controllable central heating, double glazing and luxurious carpets, the cottage is perfect for couples and small families at all times of the year. A beechwood cot and baby equipment are available on request. There is free Wi-Fi internet access and the added benefit of private off-road parking for two cars.
The cottage is excellently located in a peaceful setting in Stratford’s charming Old Town. The historic town centre, riverside parks and gardens, Shakespeare’s Houses, theatres and an excellent choice of restaurants and pubs are just a short stroll away. In sight of nearby Holy Trinity Church situated on the banks of the River Avon, there are delightful riverside walks into town and out into adjacent open countryside.

The Central England / Cotswolds / Warwickshire region
Heritage Mews is ideally located for exploring the scenic Cotswold Hills and South Warwickshire countryside. Within a short drive are the beautiful Cotswold villages of Chipping Campden and Broadway; internationally renowned Hidcote Manor Garden; Moreton-in-Marsh with its famous Tuesday outdoor market; Batsford Arboretum; Sezincote House & Garden and Blockley 'silk' village. Warwick, with its antique shops and magnificent medieval castle is10 miles (18kms).
There are many National Trust houses and gardens nearby, including Charlecote Park, Packwood House, Baddesley Clinton, Upton House and Coughton Court. You can enjoy leisurely drives through country lanes and rolling countryside, with many delightful villages to explore and excellent traditional country pubs.
Birmingham city centre, with its stylish shopping malls, Sea Life Centre, theatres and Symphony Hall, is about an hour by train. The National Exhibition Centre is approximately 35 minutes drive (43 kms / 27 miles). Oxford and Blenheim Palace are both about an hour's drive.
There is gliding, hot-air ballooning and scenic flights (over Stratford and the Cotswolds) within a short drive and National Hunt horse-racing at Stratford and Warwick.
Stratford upon Avon / Stratford Old Town area
Situated on the banks of the River Avon in the heart of rural Warwickshire, Stratford upon Avon is a beautiful market town steeped in history and culture - an ideal holiday destination at any time of year.
Heritage Mews is within ten minutes walk of the town centre with its rich variety of historic buildings and unique attractions, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace and two other beautifully preserved Shakespeare Houses and Gardens - Nash's House and Hall's Croft (a few minutes from the cottage). You can walk into town along the riverside footpath and enjoy pleasant riverside walks out into adjacent open countryside.
You can visit Shakespeare's tomb in Holy Trinity Church, one of England's most beautiful parish churches situated on the banks of the Avon - about two minutes walk from Heritage Mews (you can see the spire from the cottage). The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard Theatre is six minutes walk. Nearby is the celebrated "Dirty Duck" pub with a terrace overlooking the river and inside, walls of signed photographs of Royal Shakespeare Company actors past and present.
There are delightful walks through parks and gardens along the banks of the River Avon and boating, sight-seeing & restaurant cruises. You can cross the river on an old chain ferry - the last of its kind in Britain. Walk across the Old Tramway bridge and visit the Butterfly Farm. Take a 'City Sightseeing' open-top bus tour of the town and nearby villages, visiting Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Shottery and Mary Arden's House in Wilmcote.
The town centre offers more places to eat than you could ever wish for! There are restaurants for all tastes, pubs, bistros and traditional tearooms, coffee shops and cafes. Many have outdoor terraces and gardens or overlook the river. There is also excellent shopping, with galleries, antique centres and a wide variety of interesting independent shops as well as well-known high street stores.
There is an award-winning daily guided Town Walk and a lively market every Friday. A craft market takes place on Waterside every Sunday in July and August. Regular live music at Cox's Yard, weekly Stratford Jazz and classical concerts cater for all tastes. During the summer there is free outdoor theatre on the banks of the River Avon. There are also outdoor plays at the Shakespeare Houses and nearby National Trust properties. Explore the nearby 'Greenway' cycle trail - cycles can be hired in town and delivered to the cottage. Visit Stratford Leisure Centre, with swimming pool, badminton courts and fitness studio. Fishing is available on a one mile stretch of the River Avon, a few minutes walk from Heritage Mews.
STRATFORD-UPON-AVON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS & MARKETS: Stratford's Christmas Lights (from 26 November) are spectacular and regarded as amongst the finest in the UK. There are weekly Christmas Markets, excellent shopping, Christmas at the Shakespeare Houses and a variety of festive events. Nearby National Trust properties, including Charlecote Park, Upton House and Baddesley Clinton are open with the houses sumptuously decorated for Christmas, winter parkland and garden walks,carols, markets and other special events. From 5 December 2009 to 30 January 2010 you can see the Royal Shakespeare Company's enchanting version of "Arabian Nights" at The Courtyard Theatre. By air - car hire and taxis are available at Birmingham International Airport - approximately 35 minutes drive from Heritage Mews. We can arrange a private hire taxi to 'meet and greet' you at airport arrivals and take you to Heritage Mews. Just let us know and we can obtain a quotation for you - you pay the taxi driver direct.
By train - taxis are available at Stratford railway station - a few minutes from Heritage Mews. There is a direct line from London Marylebone - journey time about 2 hours.
By coach - the coach station is in the town centre, a few minutes by taxi from Heritage Mews.

Further details outdoors: COURTYARD GARDEN - the garden is a special feature of Heritage Mews. Planted for colour and interest throughout the seasons, it is a delight to look out onto at all times of the year. In summer there is a profusion of colour, with geraniums, cosmos daisies and busy lizzies. Step out from the sitting room and relax or dine in seclusion. There is sun (or shade if needed) from early morning until late afternoon. In autumn and winter there are colourful pots of pansies and violas, clipped boxtrees and a variety of beautiful evergreens. In spring daffodils, primroses and hellebores are also in bloom.
PRIVATE OFF-ROAD PARKING for two cars is a real benefit in Stratford where parking on the narrow streets is restricted and in high demand. A gate from the garden leads directly to one of the two private parking spaces - convenient for unloading your car. The second parking space is in an adjacent courtyard. Enjoy the convenience of parking your car (or cars) safely within the private mews and explore this beautiful, historic town on foot - all the sites and attractions are a stroll away.

A welcome tray and fresh flowers are provided, as well as some basic essentials, including dishwasher tablets, soaps and toilet rolls.
Breakfast / provisions: if you would like breakfast or other provisions provided in the cottage ready for when you arrive, we are happy to arrange that. We make a charge of up to £10 in addition to the cost of the provisions.
Our aim: we manage Heritage Mews personally and our aim is to do everything we can to make your stay memorable and enjoyable. We will be there to welcome you and hand over the keys on your arrival and answer any questions you may have. If your travel plans mean you will be arriving very late in the evening, arrangements can be made to provide a key for you to let yourselves in. We can be contacted at any time - there is a free line from the payphone.
Conditions
Heritage Mews is available to non-smokers only. Sorry, we do not accept pets.
You can make a provisional booking by email or telephone. To secure a booking we require a £75 non-refundable deposit per week or short break and a completed booking form confirming your acceptance of our Terms and Conditions of Hire. The balance of the rental is payable 8 weeks before arrival.
You can arrive after 3pm on arrival day and must vacate the property by 10am on departure day, unless by prior arrangement. Only the guests named on the booking form can use the property or its facilities unless with prior consent. You are expected to take reasonable care of the property and its contents, leaving them clean and tidy as you found them. Any damage or breakage should be reported at the time and paid for.
