I was very much looking forward to staying in a quaint English cottage in such a beautiful location. Unfortunately what I hoped for was not the reality of my experience.
Response: We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. Firstly I would like to point out that we were away during your visit & the people who appeared on your departure day were not us, but the... more

“Perfect spot for a mother-and-daughter break.”
The cottage is charming and very well equipped, and Armscote was a good base for exploring Shakespearian locations and the Cotswolds. The nearest town, Shipston on Stour, was attractive and we had a good meal at the White Hart, Newbold. Our hosts kindly offered to drive us there and back which was much appeciated! We particularly enjoyed Warwick. Everyone seemed very pleasant, and we loved Lord Leycester's Hospital, an ancient half timbered structure, and Hill Croft, a set of charming Victorian gardens near the racecourse. Another delightful garden was reached down Mill Street (I think) with spectacular views of the Castle.

“Amazing, Beautiful, and Peaceful.”
I just got home from my stay at the cottage. I am missing it already! The owners are so lovely, and accomodating. The cottage is beautiful, and sitting by the fire is so relaxing. Strolling... more
Response: The Cottage reflects the beauty of this whole area where there are Manor Houses, Cottages & Quaint thatched properties. Armscote is a quiet peaceful hamlet , a great place to relax at the end of a... more
What a wonderful quiet, clean, comfortably and peaceful cottage. From the minute we walked in we felt at home. The cottage is a real good base to explore the heart of England. We went to lots of great houses and gardens - with a membership of the National Trust for one week - and our time weren't long enough to see everything we wanted. Stratford-Upon-Avon is a nice little town and we enjoy everything of Shakespeare. Me and my nineteen-years-old daughter enjoyed the wifi-internet at the cottage, it helped us to stay in touch with our friends. And we used it as well, for instance to check if the less well-known gardens were open. All in all, we wished we could have stayed longer and I hope I can come back.
Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed your time spent at our Cottage. It is a character property with that 'homely' feel & so cosy during winter months too. We'd love to welcome you back again at any time of the year. There's always something new to see & do in this beautiful area.

“cosy cottage with fire- excellent!”
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We had been quite nervous about travelling with a young toddler, so this was just what we needed. A self catering cottage, two good sized bedrooms, a lounge with a fire, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Great for families, as Ian and Gill were so welcoming. I would highly recommend this cottage to couples or families as a fantastic, cosy retreat.
Response: Many guests enjoy the beautiful gas-log fire. It is so like the real thing, gives out terrific heat, & is instant! Just perfect for the holiday maker. As you say, our location is very peaceful & ideal for small children. We enjoy seeing families relaxing & having fun here, even helping collect eggs from our chickens.

“Staying in a fairytale Cottage”
For us, visiting The Cottage in Armscote Village was like an epic journey back in time. In the day light, the place is fantastic, but when the Sun goes down, there comes the night and every little thing become magic in this land. A mystic darkness then lay on the village, and the complete silence makes the time stands still. Because we used to take regular walks around the village before going to bed, taking deep breath of fresh air, we have had here the best sleep (and dreams!) ever! We initially booked 1 week, but it was sooo hard to leave, as we asked for an extra one. We feel lucky it was made for us to meet such a great people like the owners.
“A wonderful base to explore Stratford and surrounding areas.”
We stayed at New Manor Farmhouse for 7 nights with our two young sons (6 and 7) and could happily have stayed for another 7! The cottage was spotlessly clean, warm comfortable and well equipped. We were fortunate to have warm weather and spent the week visiting Stratford, Warwick Castle and the Cotswolds. We were warmly welcomed by the owners Gill and Ian Plank who were happy for our boys to play on their scooters in the courtyard and run around freely. Armscote is a small village with a pleasant pub (although expensive for food). It proved an ideal base for exploring. I would thoroughly recommend visiting all of Shakespeare's houses - there were plenty of activities for the children at each house. Mary Arden's Farm is a must as is Warwick Castle. We also enjoyed visiting the Butterfly Farm at Stratford and the car museum and model village at Bourton- on-the-Water. We had a very relaxing holiday and hope to return.

“The best holiday we ever had!”
We stayed at this lovely cottage for the third time this year and we booked for next year recently. Our 10 year old daughter said three years ago: "It was the best holiday we ever had!" We agreed and eversince we spent our summer holiday in this cosy cottage in the Cotswolds. The Cottage itself is most charming, everything in it is beautyful and clean and Gill and Ian are very kind. We are allready lookong forward to seeing them again next year!

“An excellent escape to the country”
Simply put, we would have stayed there longer...we were there for four weeks and in that time we settled right in. The owners Gill and Ian were very friendly and helpful, and took great care of us. Our 18month old daughter loved it as well, playing with the three resident pet chickens and the Planks' grand kids when they came to visit. We felt like we were staying with friends.
“Pretty cottage in an area of outstanding interest”
This very attractive and well furnished cottage is situated in the pleasant hamlet of Armscote which has a good pub. It is surronded by lovely Warwickshire countryside and Stratford on Avon is only 8 miles away. We can recommend the open top bus tour which took us round the places associated with Shakespeare in town and out to Mary Arden's farm and Anne Hathaways cottage. We were persistent and got late availability tickets for Macbeth and the City Madam at the RSC. These were great experiences and very much to be recommended. We really liked Adam Henson's farm which is quite close. Oxford is only an hour away and Cambridge is only two hours away by car. We liked Christ Church college, Oxford and King's College, Cambridge. We did not find Warwick castle interesting and it is very overpriced..There is a direct train from Stratford to West Bromwich Albion's ground taking about an hour. Jamie and I went and saw their exciting opener against Manchester United while the ladies took the car to Sudleigh castle and an excellent afternoon tea. They said Sudleigh is a very interesting and well presented castle.

“Pretty cottage in stunning countryside location but feel owners heart not in it”
The property is a beautiful old stone building (originally stables) converted some 20 years ago into holiday accommodation. We had high hopes as the website and descriptions sound lovely. However, a few days before our arrival we received an e-mail saying that the owner would not be there and the key would be left for us under the dustbins outside....ok I suppose but usually in other rental properties we have stayed at the owners (or their representative) are there to greet us, show us where everything is and make us feel welcome. The driveway and gardens looked immaculate so we were pretty pleased with our choice. However, when we entered the cottage the first thing we noticed was that the place needed a jolly good clean! There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling light fittings, general dust over the surfaces and although not terrible, not to the standard we were paying for. The light in the bathroom did not work and as the owners were on holiday themselves, we had to ask their neighbour who was tremendously helpful and kindly came to fix it for us. There was supposed to be wi-fi internet access at the cottage but it needed the password code to access it and there was no information giving this in the cottage. We could not ask the owners as they were on holiday. The emergency contact person given in the cottage info pack was the owners son, who was also on holiday with them! So I dont know who we would have contacted if something really serious had happened - the neighbour I suppose. We used the (old) iron once and as soon as we plugged it in, it shorted out and tripped the electricity trip switch! The bedrooms and other areas were OK, but again, could have done with a bit better cleaning, although the bedlinen was perfectly fresh. The lounge furniture was rather uncomfortable and old fashioned. All in all, although it was pefectly adequate, it was rather disappointing and not worth the money when you compare prices with other properties in the area. I would have given it a 3 star rating at best. It felt like the owners had lost interest in providing a top class rental and were just letting it out to get as much income as possible with minimal effort. The location however was stunning, with beautifully manicured gardens all around, and brilliant pubs nearby. Especially worth noting is The Howard Arms at Ilmington about 5 minutes away by car. It is exceptional. Also very good is The Fox & Goose in Armscote itself. The food is excellent and I believe they also have accommodation which looked modern and comfortable.
Response: We appreciate you taking time to write a review, but are very sorry to hear you were not completely satisfied. We have noted your comments about the cleaning. We usually do it ourselves & would assure you that we are very particular, but just this time we obviously had to use a cleaner(because of our absence)who it seems didn't measure up to high standards, We apologize for this & will not let it happen again. My husband remembers coming back from holiday & immediately replacing the iron. It is always our priority to make sure our guests are happy & we can only apologize again for the mishaps during your visit.

“A Cosy Cottage in Armscote”
The cottage had all the amenities required to make our stay more than comfortable for the weeks we stayed there, it was well appointed, and clean. The cottage had the bonus of being ideally located to the Motorway and only 40 minutes from the Airport. Nicely situated for a quick trip into Stratford and Shipston. The owners made the family welcome and were friendly yet discrete. The cottage is highly recommended and we will definately stay there again on our next return to the UK.
