1 The Hamlet
from £56 /night help
Cottage | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 7
Peacefully situated, on the fringe of a tiny village, The Hamlet is brimming with character and comfort. It has proved a great favourite for reunions of friends and families. It offers bags of space, in a popular, central location and is only a few minutes from both Stratford and the Cotswolds. It is popular with couples too since it is possible to live entirely on the ground floor ,and, for such a spacious property, out of season rates are very reasonable.
Road and rail links are very good and footpaths radiate from the cottage towards the delightful small town of Bidford on Avon, along the river and into lovely the Worcestershire countryside.
Some guests chill out , live a local life, walk, read, cycle or even fish in the river whilst others explore local towns and countryside or travel further afield to Oxford or Cheltenham. Many visitors stay here whilst visiting or exhibiting at The National Exhibition Centre easily reached via the A46.
Children love Birmingham's Cadbury's World and the legendary Warwick Castle though most parents generally seem less enthusiastic! However the beautiful, peaceful gardens are always a hit with both!

There is a large, ancient, beamed living/dining room in which the huge inglenook fireplace and open fire is the focal point. The room would be everyone's idea of an archetypal old English Cottage interior. One wall is covered by a bookshelf stacked with books, games, maps and a small TV. An enormous rectangular table which can seat up to 10 is located in the far end of the roon close to the modern, well equipped , galley style, Shaker kitchen
|Further details outdoors|
There is no vehicular access to the property which, though part of its charm, means parking is in the lane outside on a first come first served basis. It's possible to get very close to the property for 'dropping off 'but you may have a short walk from your parking space on busy weekends. The lane, The Bank, is a no through road.
The beautiful, largely lawned gardens are a delight and great fun to relax, barbecue or play hide and seek in. Though extensive, and private, access is shared with 3 other cottages so it's not the sort of garden a dog or child can just be let lose in. There is also a shallow pond.
Up to 2 pets are welcome. Because of extra cleaning etc there is a charge of £20 per animal
The Warwickshire region
The Avon Valley , part of The Vale of Evesham, is well known as a market garden and orchard region and benefits from a relatively benign climate. Stratford on Avon, as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, is world famous. Apart from being a delightful little market town it houses all the Shakespeare properties and the theatre, which is home of The Royal Shakespeare Company. Seven or so miles away from Marlcliff are The Cotswold Hills which are the most quintessential of all English Regions. Gorgeous little towns and villages built of the honey coloured limestone sparkle like jewels in the landscape and many celebrities and members of the Royal Family have homes there.
Next door to The Hamlet is a three acre meadow garden, The Woodpeckers, which is open to the public by request. The Domestic Fowl Trust is located at nearby Honeybourne. There are many wonderful National Trust properties within a radius of 10 miles, Charlecote Manor, Coughton Court, Snowshill Manor and the beautiful Arts and Crafts Garden at Hidcote Manor. A lovely, private Stately home at Ragley Hall is only 5 miles away and with its extensive grounds and adventure playground is popular with children.
Possibly, the most frequently visited nearby attraction is Warwick Castle, though Birmingham's Cadburys' World comes close second for families with children. Footpaths radiate from the cottage in all directions, indeed many guests park the car and walk everywhere for the week! Guests who bring bikes may access a Greenway Cycle track at Milcote ( 4 miles) which goes right to the centre of Stratford on Avon. At the Stratford end of the track is cafe/cycle hire facility.

"Nice qaint cottage in lovely hamlet"
This cottage was ideally located and offered enough room for two families. This place is especially interesting for those that like a bit of warmth and atmosphere in a holiday place. The plus points f… More
Glad you enjoyed your stay at The Hamlet. It's a very popular large cottage and booked almost 100% of the time. Consequently here is limited opportunity for really 'deep' spring cleaning between guests so there may be a few out of the way areas which gather a bit of dust.
I'll so my best to access them.

"Beautiful cottage in a lovely area"

Glad you enjoyed yourselves. You were a jolly group and certainly made the most of the area. The double bed is squeaky as it was hand made from an old ship! I think I will replace it though as it could be a major embarrassment to someone!

Thanks for your positive comments. I admire the way you made the most of the cottage and its immediate environment. I love to think of families meeting up and enjoying themselves but having enough space and privacy for some quiet time as well.

"What a lovely cottage!"
We had such a nice time at The Hamlet. Spacious and perfectly fitted out with everything we needed for toddlers, parents, and grandparents, and set in a beautiful spot. We look forward to future family gatherings in warmer weather when we can explore the charming surroundings, but it was lovely even on a January weekend.
Thanks. Look forward to playing host to you all in warmer weather!

"Beautiful cottage in a quiet idyllic village"
The Hamlet is a beautiful, spacious cottage set in an idyllic, quiet village in the heart of stunning countryside, with lots to see and do near by.
A great many walking and riding routes are all clearly marked out.
The cottage has everything you could need to make your stay very comfortable and enjoyable.
We was lucky with the weather and was able to make the most of the private garden.
The owner has provided a folder full of tourist information of the surrounding sights and places to eat.
We had chose to stay at The Hamlet so we could visit Stratford Upon Avon and see the RSC play of Hamlet. Stratford is approximately 10-15 minutes drive away and is a definite place you should visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hamlet and would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed as a large family group for a wedding in mid June.
We found the owner Geoff to be very accommodating as we needed extra campbeds etc and he provided these without any issue. He was also very flexible regarding short stays which meant we could stay four nights.
We found the price very reasonable for the area, anything else of the same size was much more expensive.
The house itself is charming, full of character and very cosy. It has a lived in feel, with a well equipped kitchen. The immediate surroundings of the house and garden are also beautiful and very quiant.
A nice location too, near Bidford which is handy for shops, restaurants etc and Stratford is a fairly short drive away.
Would definitely recommend this property.
Thanks. I enjoyed meeting your lovely family and am [pleased that I was able to contribute to you all enjoying the family wedding so much.

Thanks. You were a delightful family. I really admired the way you made the very best of the garden and the local environment. Your children were so enthused by nature and it was great to see them making daisy chains, dens and dipping in the pond! Also all the generations of your family got on so well together. That isn't always the case!!

"A most memorable holiday"
We spent a whole week in this lovely cottage meeting up with our family (4 adults, one 19 yrs and one 8 year old) and had a great time. The weather was perfect - how lucky were we this year? The cottage was just as described, homely and quaint with everything you might need. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful, private garden and made use of the outdoors dining area to picnic. The village is quiet but you are close to many good eating places or take-aways in the nearby villages. We were also able to visit Warwick and Stratford on Avon which were quite close and there were some lovely walks. I would say though that if you take more than two cars you may find a parking problem. I have a small mobility scooter and this proved no problem at all with access. We had a wonderful holiday in this gorgeous old cottage. Thanks go to the owner, Geoff, who was on hand and helped to make this a most memorable holiday.
