Dumfries and Galloway is a region of unspoilt beauty and once the home of Robert Burns. You will find green forests , sandy shores and an abundance of wildlife here. The region also boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, such as the Wigton Book Festival. Discover the history of this region by visiting it's many castles and it's exciting museums. One of Scotland's most panoramic views can be found here at the lighthouse at Mull of Gallaway. On a clear day you can gaze over four kingdoms, Western Isles of Scotland, Isle of Man, The Cumbrian Fells and Northern Ireland.

This is just a taste of what is on offer in Dumfries and Galloway

Stranraer

Stranraer is an ideal place for a holiday. It offers a leisure centre, swimming pool and the area also boasts of it's golf courses. Should you fancy a day trip to Ireland the ferry is located at Cairnryan, just across the loch from our cottage. With the mild Gulf Stream climate there are plenty of pretty gardens to visit inc. Logan Botanical Gardens, Ardwell House Gardens and Castle Kennedy which is known for it's rhododendron and azalea collections.

While in Stranraer also take the time to visit Portpatrick , Port William and the Mull of Gallaway. Just a few of the beautiful places near by. Should you want a break from driving there is a train station in Stanraer so why not visit Ayr, Glasgow or Edinburgh whilst you are here.

The shops, pubs and restaurants are all within walking distance of the cottage , yet you still have the beautiful view of Loch Ryan from the cottage
