This restored Listed 17th Century house is situated in the conservation village of Strangford in County Down overlooking Strangford Lough with uninterrupted Lough views. It is in the middle of a terrace of 5 Listed period properties in an elevated position. It has a private secluded rear elevated garden with views of the lough. It is in an area of outstanding natural beauty close to all that County Down has to offer. It is within walking distance of nice restaurants and a few minutes drive from a quiet safe sandy beach.

The County Down region
Situated in County Down Strangfod Lough is a Marine Nature Reserve. There are numerous places for walks around the village and the bay of castleward.
Strangford Village has an award winning restaurant, 2 well stocked food shops, a pharmacists, post office,a cafe and a craft shop. TheThere are many golf courses in Co Down the nearest of which is at Ardglass (7 miles).
There are a number of National Trust properties nearby with Castleward National Trust property and gardens a few minutes drive from Strangford. The estate holds the annual Castleward opera event in june each year and throughout the summer holds a range of events- for example 'jazz in the garden' on sunday afternoons in the summer-go along with a rug and a bottle of wine and enjoy the music.
The famous Mourne mountains and the seaside town of Newcastle are within easy reach of the village. Northern Ireland's only aquarium 'Exploris' is in Portaferry which is a few minutes away across the lough by car and passenger ferry. The aquarium has open sea tanks and a seal sanctuary.Portaferry also has numerous restaurants, bars and some craft shops.
Castle Espie a bird sanctuary run by the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust is within easy reach for a days outing. The Ulster Flying club at Newtownards Airport (30 miles) offers pleasure flights down the lough. There are opportunities for horse riding, birdwatching, walking and sailing all within a few miles of the village.

Strangford Lough is a marine Nature reserve and has 6 designations of protection. It is a haven for bird watching. There is a bus service (Mon to Sat) from the village to Downpatrick at 6 miles away. From Downpatrick there are bus connections to many local towns and to Belfast.

Further details indoors: This is a beautifully restored three bedroomed house furnished in comfortable traditional style with antique furniture. The entrance porch and hallway have flagged stone floors. Downstairs are two lovely reception rooms with wooden floors and window shutters. Both rooms have lough views and comfortable seating and open log/peat fires. One of the reception rooms opens directly onto a delightful enclosed rear courtyard with garden furniture and a chiminea. From the courtyard there is direct access via stone steps to a private walled garden and from the garden there is private access to Compass Hill at the rear of the property. There is a fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and 2 oven electric cooker with an adjoining large dining area with seating for 6 people. There is a shower room (electric shower) with WC on the ground floor. Upstairs is a beautiful bathroom with polished wooden floor boards and a restored free standing cast iron bath. The three bedrooms are comfortably furnished. All bedrooms have uninterrupted lough views. The building is very old and has some low doorways and narrow passageways.
Further details outdoors: There is parking for two cars in the gravelled area directly in front of the house. There is a rear courtyard with garden furniture and from this there are stone steps leading to the rear walled garden which is totally private and has views of the lough. In the garden there is more garden furniture.

The house is usually available for rent from January to December each year. In peak season lettings are usually from Saturday to Saturday HOWEVER we will attempt to accommodate stays of a shorter duration if we can. Lettings are usually from Saturday to Saturday HOWEVER we will attempt to accommodate requests for alternative start days so please contact us to discuss this if required. At all times of the year the minimum stay is two nights. The house is cleaned for your arrival and we ask that visitors leave the house clean on departure.
Conditions
Please contact us directly if you are enquiring about suitability for elderly visitors as there are steep stone steps to the walled garden at the rear of the house. On booking guests are asked to pay a deposit of £150, The remainder of the money is due to be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival. If booking is within 6 weeks of the arrival date the full amount must be paid at the time of booking. All bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linen is supplied plus towels.

The balance is then due 6 weeks before arrival along with a refundable £100 security deposit.If a booking is made within 6 weeks of the arrival date the full amount is due to be paid on booking along with a £100 refundable security deposit. Outside of the high season we are flexible regarding arrival days and duration of stay, however during the high season it may be more difficult to accommodate stays of very short duration BUT please ask and we will accommodate you if we can.
