The Western Cape region
The Western Cape Province is bordered by the Atlantic and Indian Ocean as well as the Northern and Eastern Cape Provinces. 14% of South Africa's GDP is produced in the Western Cape. The Western Cape experiences dry summers and winter rainfall. Average temperatures are 16 to 32 degrees Celcius. ( 60 to 80 degrees F) in the summer and from 7 to 18 degrees Celcius ( 44 to 64 degrees F) in the winter.
The most prominent city in the Western Cape is Cape Town ( The Mother City), which is overshadowed by a magnificent mountain called Table Mountain. Cape Town has the second busiest port in South Africa. Robben Island is located on the outside of Cape Town. South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela spent time in prison on Robben Island, which is now a world heritage site.
Strand / Greenways area
Greenways golf estate is situated between the beautiful Helderberg Mountains and the False Bay sea. This 9 hole, par 3 golf course has 2 swimming pools, tennis courts, a clubhouse with superb restaurant and beautiful walkways along the beach. The house is right on the water's edge with balconies offering breathtaking views.
The 4 km long Strand beach has been a famous holiday destination for families for ages . A super tube slides with swimming pools and play area, body surfing, wind/kite surfing, kayaking, hobycats and swimming is but a few of the beach activities. The Somerset Mall with numerous cinemas, restaurants and shops to choose from is 3 km from the house.
Cape Town International Airport is a 20 minute drive away and the city centre of Cape Town just 40 minutes away. The beautiful, historic university town of Stellenbosch with its superb selection of wine farms, tourist attractions and mountains is only 20km away. Gordon's Bay is a 10km drive away while Betty's Bay and Hangklip are only 50 km away. It's only a 75 km drive to Hermanus, known for its whale watching.
The Strand has an Olympic standard swimming pool, many hiking, mountain biking and running trails. Somerset- West, the adjoining town is 10 min drive away and well known for the most beautiful Christmas lights decorating the streets during Christmas, in the whole of South Africa. Five beautiful golf courses with mountain and sea views give golf lovers an opportunity to play with the sound of the waves and the smell of the sea. Greenpoint stadium in Cape town is a 45 min drive from the house - ideal location for world cup football lovers in 2010
How to get there
From Cape Town airport take N2 to Somerset-West/George. After approx. 15-20 km. turn off at R44 to Stellenbosch/Broadway Boulevard. Travel to Broadway Boulevard approx. 2 km. and take right turn to Strand beach. Drive along Beach road with sea on your right. Continue for approx. 3-4 km until beach road turns away from sea. 100 metres first turn to your right is the entrance to Greenways Golf Estate.
