The Heart of England/Peak District

Being in the heart of England, our base is the ideal starting point for a different type of Holiday. From Stone you have several choices of routes, for an energetic week you can do the Four Counties Ring visiting Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and the Midlands. Or an easier week the Cauldon (ideal for Alton Towers) which offers lift bridges, tunnels, a river, steam engines and the churnet valley. 10 days the Cheshire Ring Manchester and the Anderton Boat lift. 2 weeks the Llangollen, Wales and the famous Aquaduct, naming but a few, each offering slightly different aspects of boating. Not forgetting those 3 or 4 day shortbreaks to re charge the batteries, traveling south to Great Haywood and Shugborough Hall or North and the Potteries. Equally why not try a Days Taster, we offer Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thrusdays up to a max of 8 people. Ideal birthday/anniversary gift. Take a trip down as far as Sandon, the Dog and Dublet or Burston, the Greyhound for a bit to eat. Why not journey down to Sandon then come back up to the new Aston Marina for afternoon tea and visit the Local produce market. Any of these options offer glimpses of our beautiful English countryside.

During the Year in Stone we have our Famous Food and Drink Festival in October, the first Saturday in every Month we have the Farmers Markets. Visit for an uptodate list of whats on.

Locally we have Wedgewood and the Potteries, Shugborough Hall, Trentham and the Monkey park. Drayton Mannor Park, Burton on Trent, Uttoxeter Race Course, Alton Towers, these are just naming a few.

"canalboat hire uk"

we have been hiring canalboats in the uk since 1982 and from canal cruising co since 1997 and unreservedly recommend this hire company. they are centrally located on the canal system with good train and bus access, local shops and supermarkets just over the road. the boats are good and prices very competitive, friendly staff in oldest hire company on uk canals set in historic boatyard.

Thank you so very much for your kind review. I dose make all the hard work worth it.

"Budget Stress Free Holiday - Our Type of Boat and Boatyard"

On a canal holiday, with an enforced slow down to 4 mph max, the holidaymaker is often slowed down in more ways than one – usually no bad thing!! But with the locks, an energetic holiday too! Must be emphasised that this was a budget holiday. The narrowboat was easy to handle, comfortable though compact and not the lap of luxury - but that's what we wanted. The beds were exceptionably comfortable for a narrowboat. Great for a couple but would definitely be a struggle with 3. Major recommendation is that we never had to use the pole, i.e. we never ran aground so a minimal draft. Can't emphasise too much the importance of that and also the small size of the boat. I can't help feeling that many first time hirers go after luxury and hire a boat which is too large for the size of the party and consequently struggle with mooring, running aground, get stressed and don't go again! Also like the simple pump out loo. We try to avoid those with macerators - lose the electrics and you lose the loo - a bit frightening!! Only gripe is that pump out fees for subsequent weeks are not refunded (as with other boatyards) - but subsequent weeks are heavily discounted so hesitate to mention that but be aware. Also, the oil level on the dipstick can mis-register so be absolutely sure you need to top up before you do! TV (just gone digital) worked remarkably well though would benefit from a better aerial - also flat screen TV's are quite power hungry so flattens the domestic batteries quite quickly so you really need to run the engine when watching.

Thank you very muck for your honest review. Much appricated.
