The Heart of England/Peak District
Being in the heart of England, our base is the ideal starting point for a different type of Holiday. From Stone you have several choices of routes, for an energetic week you can do the Four Counties Ring visiting Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and the Midlands. Or an easier week the Cauldon (ideal for Alton Towers) which offers lift bridges, tunnels, a river, steam engines and the churnet valley. 10 days the Cheshire Ring Manchester and the Anderton Boat lift. 2 weeks the Llangollen, Wales and the famous Aquaduct, naming but a few, each offering slightly different aspects of boating. Not forgetting those 3 or 4 day shortbreaks to re charge the batteries, traveling south to Great Haywood and Shugborough Hall or North and the Potteries. Equally why not try a Days Taster, we offer Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thrusdays up to a max of 8 people. Ideal birthday/anniversary gift. Take a trip down as far as Sandon, the Dog and Dublet or Burston, the Greyhound for a bit to eat. Why not journey down to Sandon then come back up to the new Aston Marina for afternoon tea and visit the Local produce market. Any of these options offer glimpses of our beautiful English countryside.
During the Year in Stone we have our Famous Food and Drink Festival in October, the first Saturday in every Month we have the Farmers Markets. Visit www.into-stone.co.uk for an uptodate list of whats on.
Locally we have Wedgewood and the Potteries, Shugborough Hall, Trentham and the Monkey park. Drayton Mannor Park, Burton on Trent, Uttoxeter Race Course, Alton Towers, these are just naming a few.

"super canal cruise through a variety of surroundings- all interesting, not all beautiful"
We are experienced canal boat hirers, having been hiring or part-owning narrowboats for 30 years. This trip was an opportunity to complete a route we had not done before, the Cheshire Ring. This involves cruising the Macclesfield canal, then the Ashton through Manchester, the Bridgwater and the Trent and Mersey (re-opened the week we reached it, after being closed by a bursting of the banks last September). The boat was the longest and the most comfortable we have ever had. Due to health problems, 2 of our original group had to drop out so there were 5 of us for one week than 3 for the second, meaning we had plenty of room.
I would not recommend the route to anyone unfamiliar with British canals as there are many more scenically attractive ones, but the boatyard staff were excellent and we had no complaints at all (apart from the regular one about the weather!) From Stone, one has a choice of routes to take you through the English (or Welsh) countryside. It is a superb way to spend one's time, and I would not hesitate recommending the Canal Cruising Company as the source of one's boat.
Thank you for your review, glad you had a lovely time.

"Would do it all again tomorrow!"
Had a brilliant long weekend aboard Martha, The boat is very well equiped and the accomodation is very good.
All of the Staff at Canal Cruising were very helpful and the handover/instuctions before getting underway was also very good - brilliant for beginners.
The holiday was lovely we went south towards rugeley, beautiful countryside and the clifford arms at great haywood served a lovely evening meal.
Would to it all again tomorrow, Can't wait for our next trip.
Glad that you had a lovely time
