The Nook was designed as a relaxing and roomy holiday home, featuring a modern kitchen opening into the interconnected dining and living rooms. The separate entrance hall also leads to a double bedroom and shower room, which doubles as a downstairs wc. Open stairs lead to three further twin bedrooms and the family bathroom (completely refurbished in 2014). The large, sunny garden is ever popular with sun-bathers, al fresco diners and children who love the freedom of this safe environment. As well as central heating, there is a welcoming open fire in the living room for relaxing evenings in chillier months with modern communications technology for those who need to keep in touch.

Stoke Fleming is a pretty village with a post office and general store, The Green Dragon pub which serves great food, a church and restaurants, including one that does take away fish and chips. There is a particularly good children's playground in the village playing field.

The spacious open plan living and dining rooms open onto the garden

Furnished with a three seater sofa, a matching two seater sofa and foot stool, three further chairs, coffee table and side tables with lamps, window seat.

Entertainment is provided by a digital TV, BluRay DVD player, selection of DVDs, a CD/IPod/MP3 docking station and a selection of board games. Wi-Fi and wired broadband connection is included.

The kitchen features integrated oven, ceramic hob with extractor hood, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Full range of utensils and accessories.


Bedroom one with en-suite is on the ground floor and has a TV

Furnished with king size bed, two bedside chests of drawers with lamps, mirror, a stool and built in wardrobe.

The en-suite, which can also be accessed from the hall, has a shower cubicle, wash basin, wc, heated towel rail, mirror and shaver socket.

Bedroom two on the first floor has twin beds, two bedside tables with lamps, a chest of drawers, chair, stool, mirror and built in wardrobe.

Bedroom three on the first floor has twin beds, two bedside units with lamps, mirror and built in wardrobe.

Bedroom four on the first floor has bunk beds for two, a bedside unit with lamp, mirror and built in wardrobe. Ironing board and iron are stored in this cupboard.

A cot is also available, please bring your own linen and duvet to suit your baby's needs.


The family bathroom (refurbished in 2014) is on the first floor and has a bath with shower over, wash basin, wc, wall mounted mirror, heated towel rail, shaver point and storage cupboard.

The Devon region

The West Country has long been a favourite holiday destination because of its mild climate, beautiful countryside which ranges from secluded valleys to the wilds of Dartmoor, stunning beaches and fascinating towns and villages.

Whatever your interests you will find much to explore, but if a really relaxing break is your goal you will find quiet country lanes awash with wildflowers, country pubs providing delicious food and drink, award winning beaches, or rivers and inlets where sailors can “ mess about in boats” (or enjoy the rigours of the open sea!) and much, much more.

Stoke Fleming

Stoke Fleming is in the heart of the South Hams area of south Devon. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty steeped in history and offering something for everyone. The village has a general store and post office, the Green Dragon pub, which serves great food and Radius7 restaurant, where you can also get takeaway fish and chips. Nearby, the Stoke Lodge Hotel has a pool, tennis courts and restaurant open to non-residents.

There is a petrol station with a general shop on the edge of the village – and a Sainsburys supermarket with ample parking on the outskirts of Dartmouth, just opposite the Park and Ride terminal useful for busier times when parking in Dartmouth can be a bit tricky. Our grandchildren love the playground in the village playing field – just turn right out of The Nook and walk along the path through the trees at the end of the lane and you will come out just by the playing field.

The southwest coast path passes the garden gate; westwards, a fifteen minute walk with stunning views over Start Bay brings you to Blackpool Sands, one of Devon's most beautiful beaches and a fine water sports location, which also has a restaurant overlooking the beach and a spacious car park.

To the east the path leads through spectacular coastal scenery to Dartmouth with its dramatic estuary, castle, nautical history, eclectic range of shops and restaurants, sailing facilities and river and coastal trips.

A must for families with children is a visit to Woodlands Family Theme Park which is just a few miles outside Dartmouth on the Totnes road and nearly opposite the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club which has two golf courses, restaurant and health spa. Dartmouth also boasts a heated outdoor swimming pool (open seasonally), great for those who love swimming, but find the sea a little too daunting!

To the east lie Totnes and Dartington Hall, both well worth a visit. A round trip on the steam train along the beautiful Dart Valley takes you from Buckfastleigh with a railway museum as well as a butterfly farm and otters to Totnes with a rare breed's farm. Another steam train chuffs from Kingswear (a ferry trip across the river from Dartmouth) to Paignton.

To the west of Stoke Fleming there are numerous treats in store. Two favourites are the Start Bay Inn at Torcross which serves fantastic fish and chips and the Cricket Inn at Beesands where you can also find a little deli, fish counter (straight from the fishing boats), cake shop further along the beach and a playground. For fine sandy beaches – best for budding sand castle builders - go a little further west to Mill Bay at East Portlemouth (opposite Salcombe), South Sands at Salcombe, Thurlestone or Bantham (which is also a surfer's paradise!).

There are many more wonderful places to visit nearby – Greenway on the Dart was Agatha Christie's home, Sharpham vineyard offers tours, wine tasting, farm shop and café – and you can get to both by ferry from Dartmouth. From Kingswear you can continue walking the South West Coast path or visit the National Trust's Coleton Fishacre - a wonderful valley garden and art and crafts house.

Once you have exhausted these and the many other delights of the area, no South Hams holiday is complete until you have strolled through the beautiful countryside along the public footpaths and bridleways (OS maps in the house) discovering pretty villages with interesting history and welcoming pubs serving delicious food.

"Lovely House in a Excellent Location"

Stayed here in August with our young kids and extended family. The house is spacious and well equipped with four good sized bedrooms, a lovely living room and dining room and a recently re-fitted kitchen. The garden is a great size for small kids to run around and we used the BBQ provided several times. The location is excellent in a quite location near the centre of the village. Loads to do nearby including some lovely beaches.
