The Stockholm County region
Stockholm is a beautiful city in the summer. Situated on 14 islands with 54 bridges between them, you have close access to either the Sea or the lake Mälaren where ever you are. You may want to catch a ferry to see one of the 24 000 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago? May I suggest Sandhamn, Utö or Möja?
There are guided tours either by bus or by boat. Pick your choice.
The long summernights are fantastic! If you go to a nightclub at 11 p.m. and leave at 2.30 a.m. in the morning you missed that night all together! It is daylight again and the birds are singing!
Outside Uppsala, an old University town, 70 km away, you can visit three Viking graves from 800 A.D.
Sigtuna town, 50 km away, from around 1000 A.D. is a lovely place to visit and walk through the narrow streets with the red wooden houses.
The weather in summer can be sunny and lovely but also rainy and cold. It is unpredictable. So don´t forget to bring your suncream as well as an umbrella.
If you love swimming and sunbathing, you may do so sunny days at several of our beaches in the City. The water is so clean you can swim and enjoy a relaxed day at sandy beach at Smedsuddsbadet or Långholmen island.
Stockholm has so much to offer you may find it difficult to get everthing in at your first visit, but you are always welcome to explore our beautiful and interesting City.
The Old Town started to be built around 1250, and some of the houses remains from that period, as well as 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Century houses. You may visit the Royal Palace in Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace where the King and the Queen lives at the present. There are guided tours. You may also visit the former prison. It contains a café today, deep down in the basement!
Stockholm has lots of interesting history unspoiled by war. Sweden has been spared for more than 200 years.
Drottningholm as a theatre from 1766 with 30 sets of original props to different operas.
Book tickets before you leave. They are sold out quickly.
Stockholm is full of shops and department stores, designer clothes, furniture, interior decoration and lots of other merchandise.
Plenty of restaurants from a wide range of very high class to the smallest cheapest little kiosk.
The night life is very active around Stureplan, walking distance from the apartment.
At the island of Sodermalm (next to Gamla Stan = Old Town) you have the most lovely view from Fjallgatan or a fabulous walk along a wooden deck high over the water at Montelius vag. The whole city will be at your feet and you will see the Old Town and the City Hall with the three crowns. It is in the City hall the Nobel Banquette takes place every year with 1200 guests and the Royal Family.
This was just a short cut of what is available in Stockholm to see. You will find much more at your delight.
