The Svealand region
Our house is just outside the beautiful city of Stockholm at the gate of the great archipelago with 25.000 islands.
This mid eastern part of Sweden is known for long sunny days (in July the sun rises at 0330 and sets after 10pm!) and is propped with smaller and larger lakes and the great Baltic Sea- together this region holds hundreds of opportunities for wonderful summer activities.
Stockholm is The Venice of the North and has endless cultural and recreational activities for the whole family. Big city pulse with all the gourmet restaurants and cafes and sunny outside bars. Memorable photo opportunities amongst all the islands the city is built on, like The Old City " Gamla Stan".
The house is located only 15 minutes drive from the city, on the first big island (by bridge) of the magnificent archipelago- the largest in the world. The quiet neighborhood with deer and foxes often spotted could be far into the countryside, but everything is close and accessible. From our house there is walking distance to the many ferries that takes you to the city and out further into the archipelago - a wonderful way of exploring the long summer days, restaurants and bars on most ferries.
Around the corner is the Japanese SPA and hotel Yasuragi Hasseludden with an unique and serene atmosphere and gourmet Teppanyaki and Sushi restaurants as well as a large bar with incredible views of the Stockholm water inlet. Another SPA and restaurant: Skepparholmen a 5 minutes quiet walk away. Check out: www.yasuragi.se, www.skepparholmen.se
A top clay tennis court (only 100SEK per hour) borders our big lawn and a 100 meters stroll through the Nature Reserve takes you to the cliffs along the Baltic Sea, perfect for a picnic or a swim. A beautiful lake 10 minutes walk away has a sandy beach and is popular for kids for playing and swimming. "The Troll Lake" in the woods 10 minutes in the other direction is bordered by cliffs and has warm and incredibly clean water for an evening swim.
Further out towards the village Gustavsberg you have boat and canoe rental, horseback riding, farms for watching animals, minigolf etc. and the state of the art museum Artipelag, with another top restaurant. www.artipelag.se
We will provide you with all this info in detail including maps and more suggestions for a memorable vacation!
Our kind neighbors are also very helpful, and if you are coming with kids, there are plenty of new small friends to be made in the area :-).

I booked this apartment for a family holiday mostly because it was one of the few places left available in Stockholm over a very busy weekend! I was a little put off by the lack of photographs on the website, however during my email exchange with Patricia it became clear that this was going to be a lovely house.
Indeed the advert does not do this house justice. The house is located in a lovely community / suburb, close to the lake and opposite a tennis court. From the inside and out the house is lovely, tastefully decorated with all the mod cons (including high speed internet) that you could possibly need. There is a lovely balcony out the front and a charming garden at the rear.
The only thing to be aware of is that although this house is advertised to sleep 8 this is in the following configuration - 2 double beds, 1 sofabed (relatively comfortable), 2/3 children's beds. The children's beds are not really suitable for adults (being small single beds).
Not suitable for people with mobility issues as the main living area is upstairs.
You do need a car if you are staying in this house. We were able to park the car close to a ferry stop for easy access (5 minute) to the tourist islands.
Overall a lovely trip.
