The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region
Bridge of Allan is at the heart of Braveheart country. This charming, Victorian Spa town has been awarded 'Best Scottish Small Town' in 2010, 2011 and runner-up in 2012. The City of Stirling is only a few miles away; other areas of historic interest are on the doorstep: just a five minute's drive away to the charming City of Dunblane with its Cathedral and many cosy pubs; five minutes in the opposite direction for Cambuskenneth and its famous Abbey. Wallace’s Monument is a 2 min drive; on the way, stop off and visit the Old Stirling Bridge or the site of the famous Battle of Bannockburn.
The surrounding countryside is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts: walking, cycling and paragliding are all on offer on the nearby Ochil Hills. Slightly further away are The Trossachs, Callander, Loch Lomond National Park, Glasgow and Edinburgh providing, therefore, the ideal central touring base for your holiday.
Bridge of Allan is one of Stirling's hidden gems. This historic Spa Town is highly recommended as a place to visit on any trip to this area, and is less than 3 miles from Stirling City Centre. Bridge of Allan is a charming little village by the Allan Water. It is home to Stirling University and is overlooked by the National Wallace Monument, a towering tribute to Scotland’s, Sir William Wallace, and within sight of Stirling’s cliff-top castle. The village with its fine Victorian buildings and unique shops has a long standing reputation as a popular holiday destination and has much to offer visitors. Come and discover Bridge of Allan. There are a range of short walks, shops and cafes, restaurants and bars as well as a wide range of Victorian architecture built when the village developed into a spa town during the Victorian era. A charming riverside pathway called the Darn Walk, is thought to have been in use since Roman Times. This three mile walk to Dunblane follows the river and brings you out at Dunblane Golf Course. It is strongly associated with Robert Louis Stevenson, who included the route as part of his adventure novel Kidnapped. A small cave on route by the river bank is also linked with him and, some say, was the origin of Ben Gunn’s cave in Treasure Island. A stay at Allanvale Apartment will enable you to enjoy all that Bridge of Allan has to offer.

"Great if you're on your own"
The web site says 'private parking' - if you count on street or public car park (free) as private then it is private. The 'garden' is a rubbish dump and as for sleeping 2-4, I wouldn't like to sleep four in the premises. The best use of this property would be a single person flat. It was clean but lacked basics...somewhere to hang your wet coats (it is Scotland after all), there wasn't one coat hook in sight; no point putting them in the wardrobe to make everything else damp.. The bathroom needs a cabinet or at least a shelf - otherwise everything is on the floor except for the towel rail. BTW the dustbins are emptied on Tuesday not Friday.
On behalf of the owner of Allanvale Apartment, Stirling Self Catering would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to write a review.
Negative reviews of any of our properties are a rare occurrence, and I am sorry that you feel disappointed about your experience at Allanvale Apartment.
As you point out there is no 'Private parking' at Allanvale and this error on our Stirling Self Catering website is being rectified; the description should read 'Parking available' and we make it clear in the email we send to all guests with directions for Allanvale that there is 'on street parking in front of the property'.
The condition of the back garden/yard area to the rear of the property is something we are aware of and we are currently in the process of having it cleared and tidied to an acceptable standard by a local tradesman. During your stay we attempted to contact you to advise you that a tradesman would be visiting the site to assess the garden prior to the work commencing, but were unable to do so as you had not given us a mobile contact number to use should we need to be in touch during your stay.
We have often had groups of up to 4 enjoy their stay at Allanvale, though the majority of guests are couples. The garden area is not a highlighted feature of this property, unlike several of our other properties, but the price of Allanvale reflects the compact nature of this property.
The owner has read your comments and has agreed to install hooks for coats in the entrance hall and some form of bathroom storage, either a shelf or bathroom cabinet.
Thank you for bringing the change of day for refuse collection to our attention; the information folder in Allanvale will be amended accordingly.
If you had called either the owner, or Stirling Self Catering, using the contact numbers you were sent by email ,and which are also detailed in the information folder within the property, then I can assure you that we would have done our best to deal with any problems or concerns you had immediately.
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Allanvale Apartment as much as some of our previous guests and, once again, offer sincere apologies on behalf of the owner and Stirling Self Catering.

"Modern apartment in great location"
We stayed here for a week in late May – early June. Easy to locate (clear instructions provided) we were always able to find a parking space outside the front door. The apartment is more spacious than it appears in the online photos. This was our only holiday- let of a long UK stay that required a bond. Our bond was credited back to our credit card promptly by the management company following our departure.
The stove and hot plates worked well as did the extraction fan. There were adequate supplies of china, pots and pans etc. although no lids for the pans. The kitchen cupboards were quite full leaving no room for your own food. The fridge did not have an icebox allowing no place for frozen food or to make ice cubes. The dishwasher was easy to operate, sadly no washer tablets or powder provided not even to get you started. There was a clothes washer that we found difficult to operate (no instructions provided). To dry clothes you had to set up a clothes rack, rather a nuisance in a compact apartment. Hot water pressure in the kitchen and bathroom taps was almost non-existent. The shower however was excellent with good pressure. The bathroom was beautifully tiled with toilet, basin and shower. There was, however, no shelves or hooks for your own items. We solved the problem by moving a small occasional table from the living room into the bathroom.
The TV reception was good and the living room was comfortable. Wi-Fi was available throughout the apartment. The bedroom had a big sunny window with wide window sill overlooking an untidy rear yard. The bed was comfortable and the three drawer bedside tables very good. The robe was very deep with plenty of hanging space and shelving. The bed was comfortable and the room very quiet.
Bridge of Allan, an award winning top Scottish town was delightful. There are attractive riverside walks, pubs, restaurants and cafes on your doorstep and interesting shops. In fact you have a pub just over the road from the apartment, The Crooked Arm. The bus and railway station are minutes away. There is a regular service to Edinburgh and Glasgow from the station. The quiet central location was ideal as a base to explore from. It is an easy day trip to Loch Lomand and the Trossachs National Park from here.
