The Sardinia region
Sardinia is not a mainstream Mediterranean destination but a sophisticated Italian island, west of mainland Italy and south of Corsica. With over 1000 miles of unspoilt coastline, it is renowned for beautiful beaches, translucent azure blue sea and fascinating rock formations. Yet being the second largest Mediterranean island, it has so much more to offer with an interesting history, wild mountainous interior, vibrant towns with local traditions, colourful festivals. The people are warm and friendly and enjoying themselves in a way of life. A warm welcome awaits you in Sardinia. Sardinia is an island that allows you to truly experience the very essence of Mediterranean life. The cuisine offers a rich repertoire of dishes, heavily influenced by the country’s various neighbours including Corsica and Italy, accompanied by impressive local wines. The mixing of game and farm produce (traditional with inland towns) and fish and seafood (traditional with coastal towns) result in a combination of flavours and appearance that is unique to Sardinia.
Stintino / Punta Negra area
The origins of Stintino date back to 1885 and a settlement of 45 families, prevalently tied down to fishing who came from Asinara Island. Previously, the territory was populated by the distinct shepherds' settlements that used to live in natural shelters. The village is developed inside two inlets where small harbours are situated. They are side by side, the old port called "Minori" (small) and a new port called "Mannu" (big). Many events and entertainment are organised for tourists and residents during the summer season. Among the important annual festivals is a boat race at the end of August called "Regata della vela latina". We also recommend visiting the museum Tonnara at the new port. The most famous beach is called "La Pelosa" but there are others, equally as nice, like "Saline", "Puzzona" and "Ezzi Mannu". "Pelosa" beach is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Its water is so delightful; it's difficult to find another place like it in Italy. Its turquoise colour, transparency and the finest white sand render "Pelosa" beach more similar to tropical places rather than Mediterranean ones.
