About the home

Although not in a remote location this holiday house can offer an intimate and tranquil base within this beautiful region, having a tree-filled mature garden, with an extended terrace area, and very comfortable hammock, I can personally vouch that here it is all too easy to be ‘busy doing nothing’.

Accommodation consists of 1 double, and 1 2/3 single bedroom, lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom and alternative outside shower area.

Out of season (October to May) the property and location are incredibly tranquil with birds being the only noise that you will regularly hear, however during this time, the immediate local facilities are closed, and those not wishing to walk to Stintino regularly will find a car useful.

Daily or overnight excursions on a private yacht around the spectacular coast of Sardinia can also be arranged through the owners.

The Sardinia region

Sardinia’s north west coast shelters the most attractive seaside resorts on the island, interspersed with some really spectacular coastline – from dramatic rugged cliffs to dazzling sandy beaches. Alghero is justifiably the most popular resort town in this area, with a distinctive Catalan character, quaint narrow streets and a charming harbour-front. With Castelsardo, further to the North another attractive old town, topped by a Medieval castle with spectacular views.

Inland from the sweeping cliffs and white sand bays of the coast, the north west of Sardinia is characterised by gentle rolling hills and vineyards; and outside of the bustle of Alghero the region has a very peaceful feel. In a typical day you can relax on a secluded beach, take a stroll in the macchia-scented hills and in the evening enjoy a wonderful Sardinian meal.

The Stintino / Roccaruja area

Stintino is a small fishing village on the north-west peninsula of Sardinia. The village has 2 ports of – Portu Mannu and Portu Minori: one mainly for the fishing boats and the other for pleasure craft.

You can book and take boat trips from here to the uninhabited Isola Asinara to the north, which is home to albino donkeys.

It is surrounded by beautiful beaches: La Pelosa to the north and La Saline to the south.

It is famous for it's annual Tuna Festival in June.

Fly to Alghero - Casa Filomena is about 30 miles from the airport. Buses run regularly between the airport and Stintino.
Cheap direct flights are available from Stansted to Alghero. You can also fly to Olbia airport, which is about 90 miles away.

Car hire and taxis available at both airports.

Get a ferry to Porto Torres (15 miles from Stintino) from Genova, Marseille, Tolone. Daily buses are available from Porto Torres to Stintino. Taxis and local bus service available in Stintino.

“Just what the doctor ordered!” I was in great need of a relaxing holiday. I got exactly what I wanted and more. This was my 2nd stay in Roccaruja and I would definitely like to book to stay in this apartment again. I am not a very good sleeper at night, but here I slept like a baby. The owner Alfredo provided everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. I like to cook tasty dishes for my family when we go self catering, and I was very pleased to find a large amount of utensils, pans and kitchenware. We flew into Olbia preferring to drive across to Stintino passing through Sassari were we stopped off at Auchan the large supermarket there. You can get everything you might need, and then the local shops have everything else you might need. I always bring a few herbs out with me and this was what we were able to eat in this lovely home: Thai Green Curry, Indian Butter Chicken, Steak with pepper sauce, Stir fries, Italian sausages and Spagetti Bolognese, Chilli Con Carne etc etc. So don't hesitate to book this Apartment it has everything you need for a great holiday especially if you are looking to chill and relax!

“Great location, helpful proprietor, nice private yard, close to beaches” Easy walk or very short drive to beautiful beaches. Short drive to town. Stintino is a great quiet town. The proprietor was very helpful if we had any problems. We travelled with small children and the private yard was nice. We had everything we needed to cook meals and eat on the patio. We enjoyed our trip to this part of Sardinia very much.

“Absolutely perfect property for our requirements, had everything that was shown and was extremely comfortable.” From the first contact, to the last contact to the owner, all the responses were fast. All comminucations were precise and simple, making the experience really hassle free. On arriving, the owner was waiting to greet us and we found all to be exactly as expected. The house contained all that was required and was eally well kept. It has a cosy feel to it. The patio and garden were beautiful! We had a car rental - so I cannot advise about public transport, but the location was perfect for short trips out as well as having the most stunning beach just round the corner- La Pelosa. Pictures say more than words (the photographs on the website are not taken with lenses!) The beach was walk (approximately 20 minutes) at our slow pace- with a little one. I went on holiday in June and it was perfect,not many tourists at all. The closest village is Stintino (approx 4 km away) which has supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants, ...... with picturesque little fishing port and marina. There were other restaurants closer to the property along the sea front Question is, would I return? Without a doubt!

“Beautiful villa, great location” Villa Filomena was the PERFECT place to spend our Sardinian vacation. A beautiful home, well kept and in a great location. If you have the opportunity, take the owner up on his offer to go out on the boat, you won't regret it!
