Ste Maxime area
The resort of Sainte Maxime - situated in the magnificent bay of Saint Tropez - is an elegant family resort with a wonderful climate averaging 300 days of sunshine each year. Sheltered from the Mistral and east wind by the Maures mountains even the winter temperature ranges between 12c and 19c. The charming harbour of Sainte Maxime provides a marina in the centre of the town with 765 berths.There are many leisure activities – particularly those allied to the sea – with superb long beaches suitable for all water sports such as sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing, waterskiing and sea fishing and a wide range of discoveries and walks - everything is there for an ideal holiday stay. The resort centre also has a sandy beach and the centre is lively with many shops and restaurants particularly offering fresh seafood caught by the local fishermen. The promenade is one of the main local attractions, leading to a pier overlooking the gulf of Saint Tropez which is only 6km directly across the Gulf and which can be visited by one of the regular boat taxis or by car it is a 13km drive away. For golfers there is also an 18-hole golf course only 3km away plus local museums, art galleries, an aquatic park and children’s amusement park. Sainte Maxime is surrounded by wooded hills of the Maures providing a wonderful area for walking and cycling. Some of the medieval history of Sainte Maxime has been retained - the town hall a former 15th century chateau and the defensive Tour Carrée dates from the 16th century. From Sainte Maxime interesting excusions further afield can be taken - in addition to Saint Tropez and Port Grimaud locally there is historic Fréjus with its’ Roman origins and Saint Raphael only 13km to the east and a 30 minute drive inland and the unspoilt hinterland the “arrière pays” is equally easily accessible
