The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
Ste Foy is located on the periphery of the Vanoise National Park, created in 1963 with an area of about 600 square km.
The ski station is at the heart of one of Europe's most sought after winter sports regions. Besides the outstanding skiing in Ste Foy itself the village is less than 30 minutes drive from some of the world's most famous resorts including Les Arcs, Tignes and Val D'Isere.
The Vanoise Park has 450 km of footpaths and an abundance of mountain biking trails. A chain of refuges gives access to the whole of the region.
In summer the show of flowers in the Alps is legendary and enhances any mountain activity undertaken between the beginning of July and early September. Generally the weather in June is very pleasant, July and August are sunny and hot with short periods of rain, while September and October are cooler but often fine.
Ste Foy Tarentaise / Chalet Mountain Ski Resort area
Ste Foy ski station is set above the old village which you drive through on the road from Bourg-St-Maurice to Tignes and Val d'Isere. The reward in skiing at Ste Foy comes in the form of shorter lift queues and longer lasting powder.
The mountain chalets are built from local stone, timber and slate and much of the development has taken an environment friendly slant including the use of bio-degradable fuel to power the piste groomers.
Ste Foy is best for families looking for luxurious lodgings and easy access to great ski terrain in a quiet rural environment and for powder enthusiasts with an aversion to mega resorts.
The resort's NW facing slopes and sheltered location ensure more staying power for the powder. On stormy days when the lifts at many big resorts are closed the tree runs at Ste Foy deliver the goods. The lower slopes are great for beginners while the more adventurous head to the top to reach a powder keg of back country. One of the best off-piste routes is to the remote mountain village of Le Monal (uninhabited in winter). Hire a guide and drop off the back bowl from the top lift ; hike a bit and you'll soon be surrounded by pristine meadows covered in deep snow.
How to get there
Ste Foy is only 1.5 hours drive from Chambery and Grenoble airports; 2.5 hours from Geneva and Lyon. (A range of car hire companies operate at each of these airports). If you travel by train from the UK both Eurostar and "The Snowtrain" stop at Bourg-St-Maurice which is just 20 mins by car/taxi from Ste Foy. If you prefer to drive it is approximately 900km (9 hours) from Calais.
