Dating from 1820 and fully renovated in 2000, the Coach House was originally part of Stanwick Hall (dismantled, sadly, in 1922) the home of the Duchess of Northumberland. In addition to the spacious Master Bedroom suite on the first floor with a mezzanine, ensuite bathroom and south-facing balcony, the house has a ground floor wing. Rooms in this part of the house overlook the beautiful, private gardens and the 3 double bedrooms next to the house bathroom means that 2 families can enjoy lots of space and privacy. Decorated to a high standard, with hardwood flooring and 300 year old listed sandstone pillars in the impressive entrance hall, the Coach House is stylishly furnished and very well equipped. You will enjoy fast broadband internet access; high quality hi-fi in the lounge for music lovers; very well equipped kitchen with a 5 burner gas hob in addition to the Aga, NEFF combination microwave and electric fan oven, juicer, bread maker, ice cream maker, 2 fridges, dishwasher, qualiy stereo and beautiful garden views.

Range of garden furniture and sun-loungers and barbecue. Outdoor dining table for 12 people. Parking for up to 5 cars. Walled gardens and electric gates give total privacy.
The Yorkshire region
The Dairy Cottage is situated in peaceful, rolling countryside between the River Swale and the Tees, on the ancient site of the impressive 2000 year old Brigantes settlement. There is an abundance of historical monuments within 20 minutes' drive - castles, abbeys, earthworks, villages and towns to name but a few. Walkers will love the Yorkshire Dales, England's largest and most impressive National Park is just 15 minutes' drive away and the Lake District is just over an hour's drive with sailing, hiking, wind surfing and much more. Enjoy horse riding from the nearby stables (you can walk there!) on the perfect network of bridleways or play a round of golf at the nearby course at Richmond in the middle of beautiful countryside. Going slightly further afield, explore the stunning North Yorkshire coastline and enjoy the delights of Whitby, just over an hour's drive from here, or take a trip up the A1 for 40 minutes to a worldclass concert at the Sage Gateshead or a contemporary art exhibition at the Baltic.
Stanwick St John
One of the best pubs in the area is a pleasant stroll along country footpaths to the Stanwick- here you'll find excellent, home-cooked food and real ales, some of which are brewed right here in the village. The beautiful market town of Richmond is 8 miles away and has an ancient catle and abbey, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, cinema, full range of shops selling local produce, quality restaurants and beautiful riverside walks in National Trust woodland. There is a lively Arts scene in Darlington, 8 miles away, and in May-June, the Swaledale Festival attracts musicians from all over the country. Stanwick itself has one of the largest ancient monuments in the UK, the Stanwick Camp, site of the ancient Brigantes headquarters over 2000 years ago. There are so many walks directly from the Dairy Cottage that you don't need to get into your car for the whole of your stay, making this the most relaxing place to come and get away from all the pressures of modern living without sacrificing any of the comforts.

"Excellent facilities, lovely house and garden and very welcoming - a great place for an extended family to celebrate."
Spotlessly clean and with good sized bedrooms. Plenty of indoor activities for all. Great barbecue. Thoroughly recommended. Tip - find out where to get newspapers. Richmond town and castle good to visit.

"Autumn break at the Coach House"
I stayed at the Coach House with my husband, mother and three teenage children for a half term break. We had a wonderful peaceful and relaxing week. The Coach House is a very comfortable and atmospheric house and very well equipped. The garden and views were beautiful, and we really enjoyed the wood burning stoves in the evenings! Location was great for us as we were travelling from north and south of the country. Would recommend trips into the Dales and bike rides in the area. (but pack your wet weather gear!) we would definitely return, and only wish I could live in a house like this!

"A wonderful, spacious holiday home."
Our family stayed at the Coach House for six nights. What a wonderful, clean, spacious home. It was fully equipped with everything we needed and in a perfect location with lots of areas of interest to visit. Our two & four year old boys had plenty of room to run around and explore. We all had a very enjoyable time at the Coach House, thank you Simon for allowing us to experience you lovely home.

"Lovely house - tranquil location"
Lovely characterful house (two old gatehouse cottages merged into one large house) in a peaceful location. Not in a village, just amongst a small number of ex-estate houses and an historic church, surrounded by fields. Nearby village and pub (book for meals at weekends). Great location for walking - on edge of Dales National Park. House backs onto open fields and horses (who benefitted from lots of our apples). Furnishings are comfortable, well fitted kitchen, great master suite upstairs. Best bits - Log burners (more character than using the central heating for evenings in lounge), breakfast in sunny conservatory while you plan the day. Worst bits - only two single chairs in the conservatory (we brought more in) - would be better with two couches, as shown in the publicity photos.

We had a great holiday at the Coach House, the house is amazing, huge and comfortable it makes you feel at home immediately. The garden is fantastic, great for the children to run around, play table tennis, and look at the horses in the nearby field. We ended up staying in quite a lot to enjoy the house! Richmond is well worth a visit though, but the house has everything you could need or want for a group of friends, families and young children. Will come again and discover some more of the area.

"Absolutely fantastic house"
I have just stayed for a weekend break for New Year and had a superb time at the Coach House. The house is very spacious (much bigger than photographs) and was perfect for a family gathering, the lovely large lounge was excellent for socialising together and we enjoyed the beautiful dining room on new years eve. Also the woodburners and aga were great on a rather cold weekend. I could not fault the house in any way and the booking process was very quick and easy, I would definately recommend the house to anyone and hope to return again.

"This was the holiday house that makes you wish you owned it yourself"
I took my family for a long weekend because I had work locally on the Monday. We found the Coach House online and thought the pictures and explanations looked ok. We are cautious because we have twin three year olds and our previous stay in Yorkshire was dissapointing (we stayed in a house that had a tiny living area and was poorly cleaned). We spent a bit more than our budget to stay at the Coach House but it was definately worth it. The two main things we look for are cleanliness and space and we found both in spades here. The house is very clean and you feel like you are housesitting a bit because the house is fully equipped and stocked - if you forgot olive oil, no worries, there is some in the kitchen. The wood burning stove is great, the living space was huge and the kitchen made my wife and I comment that we hope to have the same type of kitchen in our house one day (we also discussed how we would love to live in a place like this house). The location is quiet. The hamlet seems to have only a few cars a day and our kids were able to ride their scooters down the lane to the very old and impressive local church whilst they were looking at the cows and other farm animals. After we had left we got an email a couple of days later from the owner letting us know that a little boy had left a toy car wheel under the sofa and that it had been put in the mail. Very impressive finish by Simon the owner to a very impressive stay. I am an Australian working in the UK for two years and of the six places we have stayed, this is clearly the best or second best (the other contender was the West Wing of Wiveton Hall in Norfolk). Will stay here again - wouldn't dream of staying elsewhere if I need to travel to Yorkshire with work, but hope that the secret getting out won't make it more competitive or difficult to secure a booking.

"a unique place in a peaceful setting"
A great holiday cottage/home with all the mod cons but loads of character in a peaceful setting. Well equiped kitchen with great dining room. The lounge and sunroom are spacious with a nice log burner. The kids loved the safe garden which backs onto a horse field.
