The holiday apartment is in a beautiful Listed grade II townhouse in the centre of the conservation town of Stamford. The house itself is in Rutland Terrace which is a well known town landmark. Built in 1831 the apartment has been sympathetically renovated to retain a feeling of history yet providing a cosy and comfortable retreat. The apartment has been created in what was once the kitchens on the lower ground floor and retains many of the original features such as flag stone hallway, shutters fireplaces and doors..
Situated in the centre of Stamford and close to all amenities, yet with open fields along the front stretching down to the River Nene. Waitrose is just 5 minutes walk away and it is a 10 minute walk to the centre of town with the Stamford Arts Centre, and a wide selection of restaurants and pubs including the George Hotel which was once an important coaching inn on the Old North Road.
The surrounding area offers many attractions from water sports, birdwatching, cycling and fishing at Rutland Water to the renowned Shakespeare productions of Tolethorpe Hall. There is of course Burghley House just outside Stamford and several other historic houses to visit nearby.
From country walks to cultural attractions it is all within easy walking distance of this cosy and comfortable apartment.
As this is a historic building please note that the apartment is accessed via some narrow stone stairs and is therefore not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Respect for the historic character of the building combined with comfort were the guiding principles in the renovation of the apartment.
There is underfloor heating in the en-suite shower room and thick underlay to give a luxurious feel underfoot in the living rooms. The comfortable double bed has goose feather and down pillows and duvet and Egyptian cotton sheets, making snuggling into bed an evening pleasure. There is a multi fuel stove for cosy evenings in watching DVD's or your favourite TV programme on the flat screen TV. As well as a good selection of DVDs, books, magazines and games.

Stamford is a small market town on the borders of Lincolnshire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. The town was the very first town to be made into a conservation area due to the large number of original stone buildings of architectural interest that it contains.
There is a broad range of activities available in the environs of Stamford. These include the following.

* Tolethorpe Hall, home to England's most famous amateur Shakespeare company whose productions are by no

Stamford was considered by the 18th century antiquary, William Stukeley to be the 'most elegant town upon the great northern road'. Today the town still contains many of the buildings which Stukeley so admired built of local stone from the medieval period onwards.
Stamford provides much interesting material for historians from its site on an important river crossing in prehistoric England, as an important centre of trade in the medieval period, and as a town with many important Georgian buildings of high quality.

"A delightful apartment"
I stayed with my son the night before his wedding. The apartment is tastefully decorated and equipped with all the little extras you would need for an extended stay.
Victoria was most welcoming and helped with parking which was a bonus.
I would thoroughly recommend the apartment for anyone visiting Stamford.

"Another comfortable stay at Rutland Terrace."
This was the second time we have stayed at Rutland Terrace. The flat's location is ideal for visiting Stamford. It's a short walk into town and the proximity to Waitrose is very convenient. The flat is comfortable and well equipped, with a cosy atmosphere. Its basement location was particularly welcome in the recent heatwave as it was beautifully cool.

"Great location in Stamford"
It is a basement flat, probably would have been the Housekeeper's room/kitchen in Georgian times! We had no problem with damp or bad smells but it was very good sunny weather and indeed the place was nice and cool for sleeping. If he got a bit chilly the central heating was very quick and powerful as was the shower. Everything was clean and tidy. We found the bed comfortable. I would agree with the previous review about the sofa being a bit uncomfortable but for a couple of nights not too bad. Handy for the centre of town, an easy walk to all the shops/cafes. We managed to park at the front entrance. If that is full the main riverside car park is free and not far away. Unloading the car has to be at the BACK entrance which is a busy road and cases have to be taken down the small garden and down the steep stairs. None of this would prevent us staying again.
Stamford is a lovely and interesting town.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. I have taken on board that not everyone finds the sofa comfortable. I am looking for a sofa bed that is more comfortable but so far I have not found one that is more comfortable but have found a lot that are less comfortable, However, the search is on.

I am saddened by the comments of this reviewer. They stayed with me for 6 days without once raising any of the many unfounded complaints listed above, and as far as I knew were completely happy. They left on the Tuesday evening rather than the Wednesday morning to avoid the traffic on the M25. Please consider, when reading the above, whether, if it was all true, the reviewer would have stayed in the apartment for 6 whole days and not once mentioned any of the supposed faults to me.
The bed has a new top quality pocket sprung mattress on a modern slatted base. The sofa is from Next and everyone else finds it very comfortable. The apartment has always been living accommodation and not cellars which you can tell from the original doors, windows and fireplaces. The apartment used to be the kitchens before conversion. Whilst I was away other members of my family were present to help should any problems have occurred.
I go to great lengths to keep the apartment spotlessly clean and cannot understand why the reviewer was motivated to describe the apartment as unhygienic and a health hazard. Please read all of the other reviews left by the many happy residents who have stayed with me. The only truth in this review is that the apartment is accessed via some steep stone steps, it is a historic property after all, and this is mentioned in my description and also for this reason, that the apartment is unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems or the elderly.

An excellent, spacious flat with bags of character in a beautiful property offering the privacy and escapism we needed for a weekend away from the city. Perfect for relaxing and quiet breaks away. Fantastic facilities and a large waitrose just a couple of minutes down the road. Would definitely come again.
