BookThe East Anglia / Norfolk region
Norwich City is full of historic interest for those who enjoy ancient buildings and it has it's own Norman castle housing extensive Museum Exhibitions and Art Galleries. Tours are also run around the battlements and dungeons.
Norwich also has two beautiful Cathedrals and many old churches. There is also a picturesque medieval area with cobbled streets to stroll around called ‘Elm Hill’.
There are numerous top quality restaurants in the City, one being the ever popular Delia Smith's restaurant at Norwich City's Carrow Road Football ground. The City centre also has several large shopping malls.
Boasts the largest permanent open-air market in Europe, and it also has several excellent theatres: Theatre Royal, Maddermarket, Playhouse, and also the Norwich Puppet Theatre.
Being a city it has it’s share of Multiplex cinemas and a large number of pubs, galleries and night clubs too.
Norwich railway has links to London, Cambridge and also the North Norfolk coastal station of Sherringham - home of the famous 'Poppy Line' steam engine railway - which runs slowly along a beautiful stretch of coastline to Holt.
The Stalham area
If you explore the villages along the coastline you will notice the beach changes from soft fine sand in the East to flint cobbles further North.
The nearest beach to us is award-winning ‘Sea Palling’ (near Waxham) where baby seals are born in February. There is a chargeable car park within walking distance of the beach.
Stalham is most famous for it’s boatyards, popular with Summer tourists wanting to explore the many miles of inland Broads.
We have alarge Tesco's supermarket approximately 15 minutes walk away with several cashpoints. Along Stalham's High Street you will find several various takeaways, coffee shops, a Barclays and NatWest Bank (more cash points) a factory retail outlet with clothing and household goods, a tiny fire museum, various charity shops, hairdressers and two pubs:
'The Swan Inn' is run by Elaine and Ben, and recommended for home cooked food and live entertainment on Friday nights.
On the opposite side of the road is 'The Grebe' pub run by Phil - an ardent Chelsea fan. This 'sports pub' shows live football matches.
Our nearest pub is 'The Harnser' (above) situated virtually opposite Moor Lane. 'Joss' the friendly landlady provides delicious home cooked food and top quality live entertainment every Saturday night. Another local pub worth visiting is the 'Sutton Staithe Hotel' which serves good food and has lovely views over the river. It has a Sports room around the back with live matches on tv. It is very popular with people holidaying on boats so it can get extremely busy during the Summer months. On your way around the Norfolk Broads you’re never far away from water and the ever present windmills. Some of the waterways open up into large Broads like the one at Hickling
Hickling also has two pubs - the ‘Greyhound’ in the centre of the village with a nice beer garden and the ‘Pleasure boat’ right on Hickling broad itself and accessible by car or boat.
Hickling has a wildlife reserve known as the ‘FAITH’ reserve which has several walking routes through it and a hide overlooking the Broad reed beds. Just follow the brown road signs.
Ten minutes drive towards Norwich is the quaint little village of Wroxham, situated by the river which is a favourite for 'dayboat' hire in the summer. Several Pubs have gardens that back directly onto the water for a lazy afternoon drink. Also nearby is the ‘Bure Valley’ narrow guage railway which travels slowly through beautiful countryside for about an hour to Aylsham station. Also popular is ‘Wroxham Barns’ with its craft centre, shops, restaurant and an ever popular animal petting area. Wroxham town has lots of different outlets here including a department store, a fashion outlet, a garden centre, a DIY centre, a toy shop and a supermarket - all owned by Roys. Nearby Hoveton Hall is a lovely day out for all the family.
Another great attraction in this area is the prize winning adventure playground named ‘Bewilderwood’ which has loads of fun places for children to climb and explore.
North Walsham is a town situated nearby to the north of Stalham with a quaint historic centre, assorted shops and a large indoor swimming pool.
For a more commercial day out, try Great Yarmouth with its 'Golden Mile' of sandy beach, it's 'end of the pier' live shows, amusement arcades, funfair, Circus, Casinos, Marina centre swimming pool with wave machine and numerous gift and clothing shops along Regent Street.
Yarmouth’s beaches are surprisingly wide and made of fine sand so great for spending a sunny day on.
From Yarmouth you can travel north to Caister and the rest of the North Norfolk coast or you can head south to Lowestoft along the coast road.

My family and In-Laws enjoyed our stay at Lavinia Grove Barn. It was our first visit to Norfolk as a family and my first trip back since sailing trips with school. The Barn is immaculately presented with every conceivable luxury you would want. We had a rare week of English summer which made for trips out on the Broads and nearby beaches. Everybody enjoyed the Jacuzzi which was a lovely touch in an already well appointed house. If I was trying to find any faults (and it wasn't easy) then the kitchen was a little dark - I think it was more our eye-sight and we lost digital TV reception on a couple of evenings during the Olympics which was most likely no fault of the owners. Overall an enjoyable stay. We would certainly return to Norfolk and to Lavinia Barn. |

We stayed at Lavinia Grove Barn for four nights and had an absolutely wonderful time despite the weather!! Jacqui and Noel were really helpful and greeted us on our arrival and showed us where everything was and how it worked. The chocolates and welcome pack were a nice touch and we had everything we needed. We had a lovely stay and would certainly recommend the barn to others for a luxury break. We would also recommend The Swan at Ingham for a special treat for a delicious meal and Sea Palling for a clean quiet beach. Our thanks to Jacqui and Noel for a wonderful stay. |

We stayed here with friends and had the most wonderful time. The accommodation is 5 star. Everything you could ever want is in this beautiful converted barn, and we made use of almost everything I think! The bar is fully stocked and very entertaining! The Jacuzzi is amazing and so relaxing. There are 2 pubs nearby that serve great food - The Harnster and the Sutton Straithe Hotel. We went into Wroxham for the afternoon and hired a boat and had a sail down the broads. We will definitely be recommending this and hopefully make another visit there. |
