The Black Sea Coast region

THE BLACK SEA COAST has been a popular tourist destination for the over 50 years, with both Western and Eastern Europeans. The Black Sea is a couple of degrees warmer than the Mediterranean at around 25 degrees and the climate during the summer months is similar to that in the South of Spain.

AIRPORTS:There two international airports in the regions are Bourgas (25 minute drive) and Varna (90 min drive).

There are many excursions available including Bulgarian village, Wine tasting, Dolphinarium, Blue Mountains, Ropotamo River and Jeep safaris and if you want to go further ,Istanbul or Sofia-Rila Monastery
Information on excursions can be found in www.bulgariantours.co.uk

KEY AREAS OF INTEREST:

SUNNY BEACH - The largest resort on the Black Sea Coast. You'll find an abundance of watersports & miles of clean, sandy beaches that stretch from the ancient town of Nessebar to St Vlas. An incredible range of restaurants, bars, clubs and crazy golf, it even has its own shopping mall.
We highly reccommend the Jeep safari, off-road adventure, & for your evening meal, try one of the restaurants on the promenade

BOURGAS - Bulgaria's 4th largest town. The beautiful Maritime Gardens are definitely worth a visit, and there are plenty of opportunities for dining & shopping in the squares & boulevards of the town. If you like history, a trip to the District Museum of History may interest you.

NESSEBAR - Located on a small penisula on the Black Sea, it's a real Gem. A place you must visit during your holiday. 4000 years of history awaits you at this UNESCO World Heritage protected town. Old Nessebar is a maze of cobbled streets and traditional Bulgarian Houses. There are ruins of over 40 churches to explore as well as a number of museums. Nessebar is home to probably some of the best fish restaurants on the Black Sea Coast, most of which is caught locally.

SOZOPOL- Located 34 km south of Bourgas on a slender rocky peninsula, Sozopol is one of the oldest Bulgarian coastal towns. Founded in 610 BC by Miletian Greeks. Taking a stroll along the old town's twisting, narrow cobblestone lanes reveals a host of National Revival-era houses, their stone foundations & overhanging upper stories of weathered wood topped by Mediterranean-style red-tiled roofs. Streets are lined with small restaurants & cafes, ideal for taking in the views while digging into a plate of tasty locally-raised midi (mussels). A few kilometers further south is the Ropotamo river nature reserve. Well worth a day trip.

VARNA - Bulgaria's 3rd largest city & the unofficial capital of the Bulgarian coast. A very Cosmopolitan City with great shopping, contemporary bars & restaurants. There are many cultural attractions & historical buildings, museums and art galleries. It also provides access to some of the quieter scenic spots along the coast, including the nature reserve of Kamchiya, the Royal Palace of Balchik & the hillside monastery of Aladzha. Why not visit the aquarium.

St Vlas / Vega area

ST VLAS - is a beautiful Bulgarian coastal village situated just 4km to the north of Sunny Beach resort , 9km from the histroric town of Nessebar and five minutes walk from our apartments. It lies in the foothills of the eastern tip of the Stara Planina mountain range, on the Black Sea coast. This offers a beautiful combination of sea and mountain climate, offering the purest of air, and has long been considered by Bulgarians as particularly favourable for those with respiratory problems (there is also a health sanatorium operating year round).

The long beaches along this part of the Black Sea Coast are clean and safe and with its tiny inlets making it a truly unique romantic place. The larger nearby resort of Sunny Beach is close enough to benefit from it's restaurants, shops and other facilities both day and night.

The old town of Nessebar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, dates back to Roman times with over 40 churches, wooden clad houses and cobbled streets and will definitely stun you with its antique beauty.

With its fine beaches and attractions, Nessebar, Sunny Beach, St. Vlas and Elenite form what is known as the “Bulgarian Riviera”.

The village of St Vlas is believed to have been founded by the Thracian tribe of Larisa in the 2nd century BC. At that time, it reportedly bore the name of Larisa, but was renamed Sveti Vlas in the 14th century AD after the patron saint of cattle cattle growers and merchants. During the Ottoman rule (late 14th-19th century AD), the village appeared in administrative registrars as "manastir" (Monastery) or "kyuchuk Manastir" after the five monasteries in the vicinity of the village. Unfortunately, none of the five monasteries have been preserved up to present day. Officially, it restored its name to St Vlas after reunification of the Bulgarian state in 1886.

St Vlas, is a more quiet resort that will mostly suit families with children or people who wish to escape from the noisy resorts.
