The Black Sea Coast region

The Black Sea Coast has an average temperature in the summer of 28 degrees Celsius. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September and more than 300 in July and August. The sandy beaches are clean, most of them have been awarded the EU Blue Flag, and the waters are calm making swimming safe for children and adults alike.
There are many interesting places to visit around the coast, including Nessebar, one of the oldest towns in Europe. It has been linked to many ancient civilisations and is under preservation order as a living museum town. It houses the remains of several churches from different periods of history along with fine works of medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine architecture.
For those who want to go further afield places worth a visit are Sozopol, Sofia and Veliko Turnovo.
Two-day trips can also be arranged to Istanbul from Sunny Beach.
The St Vlas area
The Dolce Vita complex has its own Italian restaurant but there are various other places to eat throughout the resort including the traditional Bulgarian restaurants at the Monastery and the Watermill and the a-la-carte restaurant at Diamante. There are many other complexes in the resort, all with their own bars and restaurants and also boasting other facilities such as a sauna, internet cafe, piano bars and massage areas. The marina is now finished and plays host to several more restaurants, along with bars, boutique shops, and Planet Yacht - a trendy late night bar/club (a great place to watch the locals arriving in their Ferraris and Lamborghinis!). Several excursions depart from the new marina including pirate ship cruises and boat trips across to Nessebar. Boats can also be hired privately. Beside the marina there is a large sandy beach with pedaloes, jetskis, windsurfs etc; there are also a couple of other beaches in St Vlas.
Over in Vlas village there are more shops, bars and restaurants, most of them situated around a large paved square. There is a shop in the corner selling gorgeous slices of cake - worth a visit just for this!
Sunny Beach is situated just around the bay and is well-known for its Blue Flag beaches and lively bars and restaurants. There is plenty for the kids to do including mini-golf, trampolines, bucking broncos and bungee rockets. Street traders are plentiful and offer face painting, portraits and hair-braiding at reasonable prices.

First of all many 1000 apologies to laura ( the apartment owner ), this review is a few weeks to late but better late than never! We included photos so I'm sure we'll be let off! Anyway down to the review... ## Booking and Arrival We booked the holiday last minute on a bank weekend and left ourselves a day to book the apartment, which we booked through Holiday lettings. Once we had agreed terms, booking and payment finalised, Laura arranged a taxi to meet us at the airport and a nightporter to greet us at the complex with our keys. The whole process was really easy and all credit to Laura for making it easy for us! ## The Apartment - the apartment was spotless when we arrived - everything was in perfect working order bonus points for - selection or tea bags pasta etc there on our arrival - DVD's and magazines left for our entertainment - Notes from the owner + guides and brochures Overall the apartment was spacious, clean and quiet on an evening! The highlight was definitely the view and the size of the balcony. ## The Facilities The Dolce Vita is part of a host of resorts all situated on the Marina. By staying in the Dolce vita you have automatic access to all the facilities across all the other complex's, which means you get access to a mind boggling 14 swimming pools within about 5 minutes walk. All the complexes are maintained to a very high standard you will see cleaners and groundskeepers tending to the resorts daily, it feels a bit like an Oasis compared to some of the hotels we saw on the way in. The apartment is in a brilliant location: - 10 sec to the nearest shop (although there is a larger shop down the hill on the left ~> 1min) - 30 sec to the nicest pool ( this is actually your closet pool at DV2 and we recommend going here as it is the newest ) - 30 sec to the nearest restaurant ( situated next to the pool at the Dolce Vita 2 this is a lovely little restaurant and by far the best of our stay) - beach 2 min (downhill and a nice little walk down to a superb beach ) - marina, bars, restaurants (5 mins walk) We've read a couple of reviews complaining about the distance of the apartment from the beach this is nonsense. You are 2 minutes walk down a hill! My 65 year old parents would happily walk down from the apartment to the beach so I cant really understand anyones complaints. Fortunately being just 2 minutes away from the beach gives you the view and a little peace... ## The Marina, The beach the nightlife The Marina is really quite a spectacular marina and feels like the playground of the Bulgarian highsociety with Ferraris and even a Maybach dottered along its bars and restaurants. I believe the Marian won a prize in 2008 as 'best small Marina project'... ...anyway we were impressed as it was unexpected. I'll try and add to this review later but for now take away points are the Good - pools, beach, facilities all clean and wonderful - great choice of restaurants and bars - relatively cheap - beer and cocktails - just 10mins taxi from SunnyBeach for a fun night out, but one that'll make you so glad your staying at St. Vlas - If you want just a beach holiday with your partner or kids this is hard to beat the Bad - stay away from Nesebar, its horrible - stay further away from the wine - the food wasnt as good as we were expecting, Bulgarian food should be ordered like Tapas... and some of the best meals we had were from the resort venues... Overall we had a brillant holiday and would recommend the apartment to anyone. If we were to go back to Bulgaria we would only go back to St. Vlas as it is a world apart from the rest of the Coast. Thanks again Laura!! Jamie |
