Garden of Eden offers something really unique on the Black Sea Coast. Beautifully landscaped this complex offers far more than others, the apartments are designed in thracian style and clustered through beautifully landscaped avenues centred around a pool. This means that the complex never feels that busy but has so much variety so you can try a different pool every day! Our apartment is on the ground floor of the Jasmina block, close to what we believe is the nicest pool (The Roman pool) and the best restaurant (The Italian).

Garden of Eden (http://gardenofeden.bg/) has 500 privately owned apartments and a small hotel with indoor pool, gym, health spa, games room etc. Its facilities include 7 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, beauty salon, tennis courts, football/volleyball courts and water sport activities. The Vista bar has incredible views across the Black Sea. A friendly 'animation' team tour the pools during the day recruiting for activities throughout the day; from volleyball to water aerobics and occasionally Bulgarian lessons. Some choose to get involved, others prefer to laze around the pool! The complex is well maintained and the landscaping has matured nicely since the complex first opened in 2007.

The Black Sea Coast region

The Bulgarian Black Sea coast is a popular summer holiday destination which has begun to rival Spain and Greece in popularity in recent years. The season is relatively short, from mid-May to late-September. But the weather is very sunny during that time with daily high temperatures typically 25C-35C. The 2 main centres are the Golden Sands area towards the north, near the city of Varna and the Sunny Beach area towards the south near the city of Bourgas (or Burgas). Our apartment is situated in the latter area.

The first settlers of note in the area were the Thracians. Over time the area has been under the rule and influence of the Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian and Ottoman empires. After World War II, the area, along with the rest of Bulgaria, was part of the Soviet Union until the transition to democracy began in 1989. Bulgaria became a member of the EU in 2007 and its currency the Lev (BGN) is pegged to the Euro.

Although many visitors are happy not stray far from the beach resorts, there are a number of sites worth seeing in the area. Varna with its impressive cathedral is worth a visit, as are the nearby resorts of Albena and Balchik. Balchik has the Queen's Palace with its beautiful botanical gardens. Closer to our apartment to the south are the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nesebar, the beautiful resort of Sozopol and the Ropotamo Nature Reserve.

St Vlas

The Garden of Eden resort is a large luxury complex with over 500 apartments and a small hotel. It has 3 onsite restaurants, 4 bars, a supermarket, 24 hour reception, a beauty salon, kids club and business centre. In addition to the 8 swimming pools, at the end of the resort is a private beach. There is also a jetty with jet ski, pedelos, etc. for hire.

About 15 minutes walk (or around 10 leva in a taxi) from Garden of Eden is the village of St Vlas (Sveti Vlas). The main road through St Vlas is lined with shops and restaurants. At the Garden of Eden end, there are a couple of reasonably sized supermarkets with good fresh fruit and vegetables. A 10 minute walk along the main road (pedestrianised now) takes you to the main square, which has more restaurants, a post office, hardware store and taxi rank.

Between St Vlas and the sea is the Dinevi complex of resorts including an upmarket marina. The marina can also be reached in 10 minutes walking along the sea front from Garden of Eden. The marina has many smart restaurants and a good, sandy beach for during the day. You can also buy a boat if you're feeling especially flush!

A little further along the cost is the large, heavily developed resort of Sunny Beach. Sunny Beach is similar to resorts like Benidorm, i.e. lively but tacky. It has a great beach 7km long with water sports. There are many restaurants and bars ranging from KFC and McDonalds to Sushi bars in the 5 star hotels. There are more extensive shopping malls and market stalls than St Vlas although the prices tend to be more expensive.

Close to Sunny Beach there is a good aqua park and there is another good one nearer Nesebar. In the season a free shuttle buses run regularly to both aqua parks from the local bus stop.

"Excellent....relaxing...ideally located!!"
