The house originally a Fisherman's cottage built about 150 years age was comprehensively modernised, rewired and extended in 2004 to a very high standard, whilst retaining its French character. It is comfortably furnished with many antiques and has a modern fully equipped kitchen. The house is just a few steps off the main quay tucked away in a small quiet courtyard. It is also just off the High Street with its Saturday lively and well stocked market - great for cheeses,fruit, vegetables, meat, fish plus much much else. Within 200 metres along the Quay and in the High Street are the best restaurants, cafes and bars, a large number of shops (bakers, patisseries, fishmongers etc) and banks as well as the finest wine and spirit merchant of the area combining a general store whose shelves brim with tasty appetising French food products many traditionally prepared by hand. It is an ideal place for a family holiday and to get away from it all immersing yourself in the best of French life.

The Normandy / Manche region
Normandy is very like the West Country Devon and Cornwall it is very green and the centre of Frances dairy industry milk, cream, cheese, butter. The weather is similar to that of southern England but is always a few degrees warmer. Average temperatures range between 22C and 25 C in the summer. The best times to visit are between April and September. The north east corner of the Cherbourg peninsular is an area known as the Val de Saire which enjoys a micro-climate like the Channel Islands of mild gentle winters frost is an infrequent visitor and many sub tropical plants are gown there.
Normandy was once an independent Duchy whose great Duke, William the Conqueror left in 1066 to annexe England. This union led to an interchange of people for 140 .years. All within an hours drive of St.Vaast are the historic sites of Caen castle and abbeys built by William, Bayeux, with its famous tapestry and many more Nearby to Caen are the D-Day landing beaches of 1944 with many museums, sites such as Pegasus Bridge, and military cemeteries to visit. Mont St.Michel is a bit further on the other side of the Cherbourg peninsular where also the Channel Islands can be visited by high speed catamarans. The picturesque port of Barfleur is ten minute drive from St.Vaast.
St Vaast la Hougue area
The historic port of St.Vaast grew in importance in the 18th C and there are 300 year old fortifications on both La Hougue and the Ile of Tatihou built in 1694 by Vauban for Louis XIV following the defeat of the French Fleet by the English in 1692. The Ile de Tatihou has now become a nature reserve, museum and art gallery being visited using an amphibious vehicle tickets for which can be obtained at the Tourist Office 3 minutes from the house. Arts and music are increasingly popular and there are several galleries selling works of local artists as well as an annual music festival on Tatihou. The large modern yacht marina has berths for all sizes of yachts and day boats. Access to the sea is by lock whose gates are open two to two and a half hours either side of high water. Details are obtainable from the harbour master.
St. Vaast is an ideal spot for a relaxing away from it all holiday with the family or friends. Local activities cover swimming from the many beaches one 200 metres from the house; walking along the coast and through the country lanes; sailing with local sailing schools and good waters to explore in shallow draft boats; golf is played on 2 courses within 20 minutes; Tennis courts are available in the town; cycling along the many country lanes in deep unspoilt quiet countryside with little traffic; Also there is wind surfing, kite surfing, canoeing and surfing can be done nearby.

Further details indoors: The sofa bed above is a divan with a pull out mattress mounted on a frame which when withdrawn forms another single bed. The bedrooms all have cupboards (with draweers and ample hanging space), chests of drawers, side tables and chairs. The shower rooms have toilets and wash basins included and are equipped with large electric heated towel rails. The kitchen has a 4 burner electric ceramic hob with a separate fan oven underneath and an extractor fan. The kitchen has underfloor electric heating. The kitchen leads into a glass conservatory with an L-shaped bench round a table and wood and basket work chairs to form an attractive breakfast corner. This leads through sliding glass doors into the pebbled courtyard.
Further details outdoors: The garden is the pebbled courtyard/patio style facing south east with wall climbing plants. In high summer the sun shines in from sunrise to six to seven o'clock in the evening. It is equipped with wooden folding arm chairs, two long sun loungers and a small collapsible table all in natural teak. There is also a large parasol in dark green to provide shade. The local Tourist Office 5 minutes along the quay will provide details for hiring the tennis courts and bicycles. Cars can be parket on the quay and harbour designated parking areas

Local activities include, cycling, fishing, swimming, sailing, tennis , golf, walking, horse riding, diving, water skiing, wind surfing, kite surfing - there is also a cyber internet cafe three minutes along the quay.
Throughout the summer there are art exhibitions, music concerts and festivals.
Parking is possible in the many designated parking areas along the quay and surrounding areas to the harbour or in Rue Triquet .
Conditions
Pets and smoking are not allowed Whilst children are welcome, the house is not suitable for those under 7 years of age. On arrival a refundable breakages deposit is required of EUR 100 and will be reimbursed by cheque less any deductions within 10 days of departure. Changeover day is Friday so that the new occupier can make purchases of food for the stay at the Saturday Market the following day.
