A local bakery, small supermarket and 3 excellent restaurants can be found there and in the nearby town of Cogolin you can taste the local delights on market days.
For those who enjoy walking the possibilities are infinite; follow the tracks created by wildlife through the forest or the footpath across the stream from the garden to the dam and around the lake/reservoir. The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region

The Cote d'Azur is the most famous coastal area of France and the place to head for your vacations. You are pretty much guaranteed sunshine although at times there can be a strong wind (mistral). Being slightly off the beaten track but still close enough to reach the major attractions means you will be able to enjoy the excitement of St Tropez and the beaches, while at the same time knowing that when you get back to our home you will enjoy the tranquility you deserve.
St. Tropez is famous for its beaches (there are at least 40 on the peninsula) although we would recommend the 11km hop over the mountains which is easy and avoids any summer traffic.
Be sure to visit the Place des Lices where movie stars and local stars get together to play a game of boules or sip Pastis under the plane trees, or sit in one of the quayside cafes and just watch the people or the mega-yachts lined up in the port rivaling to see which is the biggest. You may even spot one or two celebrities!
If funfairs are your "thing" then there is a huge LunaPark fair between Cogolin and St Tropez which operates through the summer months and has rides for all. Other activities nearby (Cogolin) include Karting, mini-Golf and grown-up golf, horse riding, and sailing, and if you venture on to St Maxime there is a large Aqua Park with a variety of exciting rides.
The St Tropez / La Mole area
La Mole is two steps from the sea, in the heart of the Maures mountains . Surrounded by fabulous forests, La Mole offers several walking itineraries directly from the villa through the Maures. On the rock ot St. Madeleine, and north of the present village, you will find the ruins of the original community of La Mole.
There is an eleventh century castle with a magnificent park which unfortunately is not open to the public, but is a beautiful sight from the road. St. Exupery lived there for some time with his grandparents.
You musn't miss the picturesque route of Cretes (527m.) where there are sumptuous panoramas, or the Col du Canadel (267m.) which is the short-cut down to the nearest beaches.
A few km away, Cogolin offers several points of interest including the 14th century clock tower, a vestige of the old fortified castle which overlooks the village .
The St. Sauveur Church (early 15th c.) the St. Roch Chapel (17th and I9thc.), the vaulted passages, the houses with portals made of serpentine or volcanic rock are all witnesses of the long past of Cogolin. The Lower Village built around a cougoul (little hill) is typical with is wide airy streets with many cafes and restaurants.
The "Marines de Cogolin" is equipped with 1,500 moorings surrounded by buildings which remind one of Venice. Shops, restaurants, boutiques and various festivities enliven the quaysides.
Cogolin is well-known for its handcrafts where you can find factories for rugs, pipes, reeds for musical instruments, bamboo fencing, pottery, ceramics, and wrought iron.
Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays, but be sure to get there early or you will find it difficult to park!

We spent a week here in June 2010 and had a very peaceful relaxing time. The Villa is very spacious and comfortable with a lovely pool with views to die for. There are a number of walks around the surrounding hills and a walk to the end of the road is rewarded by a visit to the local auberge that people travel far and wide to visit. St Tropez and Port Grimaud are a very short drive away. All in all a fabulous place to visit. Response: Thank you so much for your very positive review. We are very glad you enjoyed your time at our villa. |

That was our immediate reaction the first time we stayed in this great villa back in 2008. And we've come back to stay there every summer since that, so this summer will be our fifth there in a row - I guess that says it all !! Also communication with the owners is great - they are very helpful and friendly. We think the location is perfect, if you're looking for absolute rural tranquility. It is situated at the end of a dead end road, approximately three kilometers from the center of the village of La Mole (population about 900). There is a small grocery shop and a bakery there, but to get everything you need you probably need to go to the supermarket in Cogolin (population about 11 000), approximately 10 kilometers away. So a car is needed, but I guess that comes as no suprise. Using the dining area between the house and the pool, you feel that you are completely alone with just the magnificent view of the forested valley. Lots of good outdoor area all around the villa and always a choice of sun or shade. Another thing we love about the location is that it is in a valley - so even on a warm day with 35 degrees celcius there almost always a gentle breeze which is great. And if it still gets too warm, there's always the pool to cool down in - and it has a great size, approx 5 x 10 meters. The beaches of St. Tropez are only 25 minutes or so away by car, but we usually only go there once a week as we choose to enjoy the peace and quiet by the pool in stead :-) Also, we think the housing plan is very well thought through and practical - with the open kitchen / living room area and the bedrooms / bathroom area on the first floor plus the master bedroom with a separate bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms are of a good size and comfortable, and they're best kept cool by keeping the shutters closed as there is no air condition (not that we've missed it). It is also a great base to have if you want to explore the area - either by foot or by car. We try to do a little bit of both, last summer we really enjoyed a walk to the Chartreuse de la Verne. That is a monastery dating back to the 12th century, and it takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to walk each way - in fantastic scenery all of the time!! Being so close to the forest, is also a plus. We really enjoy the evenings outside in the dining area - just enjoying good food and drink while listening to the sounds of frogs, grasshoppers and other wildlife is great! Also, twice we've seen a turtle (Hermann's tortoise) on the property. And if you come driving to the villa late at night, it is not unlikely that you will see wild boars - at least we usually do that once or twice every year. So all in all, we've come to love this place - the best thing the location with the peace and quiet + the fantastic surroundings, and not to forget the pool. Can't really think of anything we didnt like :-) |

We stayed at La Garoulette from 28th August 2010 for a wonderfully relaxing week. The house itself is superbly light, airy and spacious and very well equipped for large families or groups. The weather was fantastic and we spent most of our time on the terrace or by the pool but the interior is also very attractive for cooler days. There is something for everyone in this area - we particulrly enjoyed the location of the property which is secluded and quiet with beautiful views accross the vinyards to the mountains behind. We did some slightly more strenuous walks in the early mornings to avoid the heat of the day which we then spent recovering by the pool. St Tropez is only a short drive away (even although it was August we managed to drive there and park with ease) and we whiled away a few hours seeing how the other half live! The local town of Cogolin caters for all shopping reqirements with a good sized supermarket as well as individual shops stocking local produce including fantastic fruit, veg, meats and fish. Most importantly though there is a "cave" where we bought local wine by the five litre container! The culinary highlight of our holiday was Sunday lunch at The Auberge in the nearby village of La Mole (walking distance from the property). Has to be eaten to be believed! All in all a fantastic holiday with family and friends in beautiful surroundings. Response: Thank you for your wonderful review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return. |
