The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
Provence and the Cote d'Azur is situated on the Mediterranean coast of France and enjoys hot summers and mild winters. It has fantastic beaches and all the fun of the seaside in a good climate with excellent facilities for all types of water sports. It also has fascinating hill towns and villages with a wealth of local history. Major centres like St Raphael, Cannes & Nice have a wealth of facilities and shops and attract international tourists. However the South of France is still very much for the French and has local festivals which celebrate events from 14th July to the local harvest of the chestnut crop. The region has some of the best small vineyards in France and restaurants to rival any in Europe.Further afield are St Raphael and Frejus with its Roman town and Cannes with its film festival and Antibes with its international yachting centre old town and Picasso museum.
The St Tropez / Port Cogolin area
Port Cogolin is situated at the heart of the Gulf of St Tropez next to Port Grimaud, a "city of canals" designed by Francois Sperry, and to a major marina Marines de Cogolin. Ideal location for anything in Gulf of St Tropez. Local sandy beaches and waterfront restaurants, bars and shops. St Tropez and St Maxime are within 7 kilometres drive while a short trip into the hills takes you to small villages like La Garde Freinet, Gassin and Ramatuelle. All sporting facilities to hand from biking, beach sports, diving, sailing, golf, riding, polo and hill walking. You can now ride your bike on secure cycle paths along the coast from Ste-Maxime to St-Tropez. La Pouncho provides regular shuttles by boat between Port Cogolin and St Tropez so that you can dine overlooking the world famous yacht harbour or on Tuesday/Saturday visit the Provencal market on the Place des Lices. There are also cruises along the stunning coast to the peninsula of St Tropez and the Bay of Canoubiers. Local festivals abound such as that in Collobrieres in October to celebrate the harvesting of chestnuts.

The apartment is situated in the Gulf of St Tropez in the South of France in Provence and can be reached by car, by train or by flying. By plan, Nice International airport (72 kms) is served by national carriers such as British Airways, Air France, Swiss Air and budget airlines such as Easyjet. The airport of Toulon-Hyères(47kms) is closest to Port Cogolin and is served by Citijet and Ryanair with direct flights from to London and Air France flights from Paris. Varlib operates a bus service from Toulon Airport to Cogolin - La Foux 10 minutes walk from apartment - further details are available from www.marseille-provence.info. By car, Port Cogolin is just 34 mins drive from the main A8 motorway which runs along the coast between Marseille and Nice. By train, closest main line railway station St Raphael (32 kms) served by high speed TGV trains and connects to a regular reasonably priced local bus service operated by Varlib.

This is a great apartment on a well maintained complex. The pool was a nice quiet place to relax in the afternoon and a good sun trap with shade for little ones. The apartment was well stocked and the most fantastic balacony overlooking a quiet canal and mountains in the background. Great for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. Couldn't find the BBQ but no loss given the nice restaurants we found. One of the best bits is the location and how easy it is to drive to hilltop villiage around the Bay of St Tropez. You will find the best views in Gassin, Grimaud and Ramatuelle and also the best value restaurants. You could easily get 3 courses for the same price as 1 in St Tropez town and in our opinion much better service and quality of food (head for the hills....). Some day trips well worth the time was to Aix de Provence and also Nice, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Excellent selection of beaches also within an easy drive although we found that the local beaches were out of reach by walking with the amount of stuff needed for a family, which was a shame. The nearest Patisserie/Boulangerie (bakery) was about 10/15 mins walk away in Port Grimaud Sud but well worth it to have the Petit Dejeuner and Chocolat Chaud. Local funfair and family events very local by a short walk away so good if you have children over 3 to enjoy.
Thanks to the owners for their quick response and kindness given we only booked and fly within 1 week and also to the lady who prepared the apartment and provided a travel cot at the last minute - a life saver!
