The Limousin/Auvergne region

The Limousin is rich in history and Culture, it is linked with Richard the Lionheart , his life ended here trying to regain control of his land from the rebellious French lords and viscounts.

You can follow some or all of the Richard the Lionheart trails.

Limoges the nearest City about 35 km, it is of course well known for the finest china in the world and you can see it being made today in the porcelain museum. The world famous Aubusson tapestries are still being woven in the town of the same name too. The department is indeed home to some of the finet craftsmen in the world.

La Haute Vienne/Creuse is a semi mountainous area which encourages the breeding of a variety of birds and wild life, the marshes and reed lands of the Brenne encourage this, so the agricultural land in the valleys are blessed with a variety of birds that you would not see in most parts of the Uk.

Claude Monet was enspired by this area and there are not many towns and villages where you will not find an art gallery of some sort.

As well as the forest and lakes the Limousin is also known for its abundance of gardens, many of them more wild and natural then traditional, for a full list of these pick up the 'Carnet des Jardin'

Fisherman travel from all over Europe this area boasts some of the best course fishing in the world. at our local lake Chaume the French Ntional Course Fshing Campionships are held annually.

Cycling , Horse Riding, Water sports ,Swimming, Fishing, Ice Skating in Limoges ,Ten Pin Bowling, Golf , an abundance of childrens activities are all available in this area and you can either take part in a variety of activities or just chill out on one of the many glorious beaches and swim in the calm waters of the lakes.

This is a lovely part of the Limousin made up of 3 Departments Haute -.vienne, the Creuse and the Correze

there are several Market towns around this area, La Souterraine, Dun Le Palestel, and Les Horoilles this is the largets brocante ( antique fare and market in Limousin, it falls on the 29th of each month.

Old limoges in the summer months has a market on a sunday this is always popular with tourists and the locals

Gargilesse has been voted one of the most beautiful villages in France home of George Sands, Monet came to paint here and to this day it is a haven for artists.

To get to Gargilesse you will drive through Eguzon take a detour to this beautiful beach and lake ( Lac Chambon )where the watersports are in abundance lots of fun for all the family.

Also Chateau Crozant just beautiful, you can take a boat trip on the Creuse from here.

"A fabulous retreat in the beautiful countryside of the Limousine"

I have stayed here quite a few times and I have recommended this stunning location to friends and family. I like to relax and enjoy however this beautiful location would be excellent for the anyone, for walkers & bikers and for the painters' & poets' amongst us alike. Yes, you do need a car but don't expect to see many about, it's like 'Heartbeat' or 1960's Britain. I know I am showing my age but it truly gorgeous and it certainly makes my heart race.
The farm house is homely, comfortable, clean and stylish and a steal at the price. I went in 2013 with four friends, who adored their holiday as much as I did and I know will be returning with their individual families.
Our hosts Helen and Malcolm where friendly and personable and had a welcome pack waiting for us. Helen and Malcolm are extremely knowledgeable about the area and nothing is to much trouble. FABULOUS you need to experience this for yourselves to understand.
