The high ceilings of this converted barn make it cool in the heat of the day, yet the wood stove renders it cosy after sundown. The well equipped kitchen with range cooker and American fridge freezer allows you to prepare fresh French foods washed down with local wines at your leisure. The dining and lounge areas comfortably allow groups of 10, the space to stretch out and rest after a hard day lazing by the pool.
There are two double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, two twin rooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC. The mezzanine adds character to the barn and with 2 double sofa beds accommodation can be increased to sleep 10.
In the evenings TV / DVD in the lounge, a sing song around the piano, a pool tournament or a last dip before bedtime all make for those holiday memories.

The property is set in 1/3 acre of land that used to be vineyard. The private pool is 12 x 6 meters and purposely built deep enough for the spring board. The surrounding large patio is equipped with sun loungers for all, a gazebo to provide shade when needed and brick BBQ. The patio furniture seats 10 and cane armchairs allow you enjoy the sunsets from the veranda. There is secure parking for up to 4 cars.
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The Charente Maritime is one of the sunniest and most picturesque areas of France. With the hundreds of sunny days needed to ripen the grapes that end up as some of the finest wines in the world, the summer weather in this region is perfect.
Fascinating cities, towns and villages to explore and enjoy. Visit the world famous Châteaux of Bordeaux, the zoo at La Palymre, the fabulous beaches at St Palais and the Iles de Oleron and Re. The cities of Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux have something to offer every member of your party. Further afield the Dune du Pilar at Arcachon and canoeing on the Charente or Dordogne make for special day trips.
St Sorlin de Conac
Whatever you enjoy doing on holiday (if you can drag yourself away from the pool), the Charente Maritime has something for everyone. Fascinating villages, towns and cities to explore and enjoy. We recommend the world famous Chateaux of Latour and St Emilion. But if you want to just taste and buy wine direct from the producer, we can direct you to "Bernard" on our doorstep. The summer evening market at Montendre is worth the visit and the acclaimed zoo at La Palymre with the amazing nearby beaches of the Cote Sauvage make for a full day out.
A little nearer home is the children's leisure and adventure area at Jonzac where you can swim and relax by the lake, while the younger ones choose from trying their hands at sailing, kayaking, pedalos, rock climbing, archery and the exciting tree top trails. The cities of Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux are all musts, if time allows. For those groups that rise to the challenge of competition, at a sport you wouldn't usually have the chance to experience, our friends run an outdoor air-rifle range. An established riding school is very close to the barn. Public tennis courts are situated in the villages either side of our hamlet and many CTC cycle tracks (National and local routes), catering for all abilities, being easily accessible from Le Chai.
A fuller account of all local activities are to be found in a file inside Le Chai. However, for most people, the occasional outing to locals shops, supermarket and street markets, for food and drink to enjoy back home on the patio by the pool, or before relaxing by the wood stove, is enough to ensure you finish the your holiday, rested, relaxed and recharged.
