The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Dordogne abounds with natural beauty from the lakes in the north to the vine covered slopes to the south. Les Jonies is centrally placed in the Perigord Blanc.
Our nearest small town is Neuvic (about 4miles) situated on the river l'Isle. This river crosses our region east to west and although smaller than the Dordogne river, matches it in pastoral beauty.
Here there is a lively, weekly market. shops and cafes in the square and a XV1th chateau with botanical gardens. At the river here, it is possible to hire electric boats or for the more adventurous, canoes and kayaks (4E pp for 2hrs. - 2004 prices) to leisurely take in the views of the river including the other local chateaux. Along the banks there are picnic places and children's play areas.
We are also within easy reach of both Bergerac on the Dordogne river and Perigueux on the l'Isle. Perigueux, a town of art and history is known as the 'Jewel of the Dordogne, with its unique 'Byzantine' Cathedral designed in the form of a Greek Cross. There is a labyrinth of paved lanes in the old quarter, viewing onto courtyards of mansions dating from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Small, quaint shops and cafes abound with markets, half-timbered houses and wide boulevards and Tourny alleys.
You will find plenty of leaflets on things to do in the area in the house, and there are Tourist Information Centres at St. Astier and Mussidan.
St Severin d'Estissac area
Les Jonies is found in the quiet, rolling countryside of the Perigord Blanc. Woodland and pasture; sunflowers and vineyards. Deer, wild boar and plenty of other wild life abound in the area. The quiet, winding country lanes can be explored on our bikes, passing through little flower- bedecked hamlets untouched by time. A picnic basket is provided for your use.
Spoilt for outdoor markets; each morning a different town has a bustling square full of amazing offerings.
Everything you need for your al-fresco meals on the terrace's long, trestle table under the vines. If restaurants are more to your taste these too are plentiful and varied. A gastronomic delight. Perigueux, steeped in history abounds with cafés and bars.
Further afield are Bergerac and the river Dordogne (15 miles) where the narrow cobbled streets of the 'old town’ quaint shops, wine tasting and lazy boat trips can be enjoyed. An hour and half drive takes you to the fabulous beaches of the west coast.
Local activities include fishing, tennis, cycling, horse riding, walking, swimming. There is horse riding at 3 stables not far and a little further afield (about 15miles). There are 2 leisure lakes with swimming, beach, pedalos and golf.

Bikes, various ball games, badminton, table tennis and fishing rods are all available and indoors there is a well stocked cupboard of board games, jig-saws, cards and toys.
A path leads across one of the meadows to the two fishing lakes. These are in a secluded and sheltered position being surrounded by trees and below woods.
The lakes are stocked with carp and as they are a natural feature surrounded by woods, the terrain is a little overgrown but we are in the process of clearing them ( but not too much!). Children are welcome and there are 3 cots, 2 high chairs, baby-bath and 2 push chairs available. We also have a sturdy paddling pool (and even a wig-wam!).
