The Dordogne region
The hamlet of Prats lies in the beautiful and fertile valley of the river Dordogne. On the river itself canoes and kayaks can be hired locally offering another scenic perspective of this wonderful region. The area is great for walking and bicycle rides. This region has much to offer, the food and wine are world renowned, the countryside superb. The towns and cities offer culture, history and modern shopping areas. Prats is situated approx one hour from the city of Bordeaux and about 30 minutes from the ancient town of Bergerac, and 20 minutes from the world heritage site of St Emillion with its many top class wine producing chateaux and several excellent restaurants and hotels. For golfers the excellent 27 hole course designed by Donald Steel at Chateau Des Vigiers is 20 minutes away. All in all an area with something to offer to everyone and a fantastic place to spend a holiday.
St Seurin de Prats
The immediate area is home to large apple orchards and vineyards, The vineyard proprietors are always pleased to welcome visitors to explain their production methods and offer a tasting of their wines, some with no need to make an appointment. The local scenery will inspire many of those who have an interest in drawing and painting. The nearby villages of Pessac (1km), Gensac (3km) and Moncaret (3km) have a small supermarket, boulangerie, tobacconist/newsagents, hair salon and beauty salon, as well as at least seven restaurants. For larger food shops there are supermarkets in nearby Castillon La bataille and St Foy La Grande. There are also several local markets and St Foy La Grande (Saturday) is a must. Every summer Castillon presents a Son et Lumiere re-enactment of the last battle of the 100 years war which is a spectacle not to be missed.

"Wonderful holiday home, just 2 mins walk to the banks of the beautiful Dordogne river!"
We received a lovely warm welcome from the owners, Eleonor and Michael, including a nice chilled glass of rosé from the local vineyard!
The house is in a lovely quiet location in the small hamlet of Prats. The accommodation is based around a gorgeous courtyard which also incorporates the swimming pool. The house is extremely comfortable and has everything you could possibly want in the way of equipment. All bedrooms have an ensuite-shower room and the main bedroom has a lovely, spacious balcony with table, chairs and recliners - wonderful for relaxing at any time of day. The third bedroom is situated across the Courtyard with its own Sitting Room and shower room, and is perfect for teenagers or in-laws!
As well as very pretty villages nearby, there are some wonderful places to visit within easy reach, St Emilion being a must! Bergerac and Bordeaux are also less than an hour away. The owners were on hand in the adjacant house to answer any of our questions regarding where to visit, where to eat etc. and were extremely helpful as well as very discreet. Four bikes are available for use and there is a wonderful path along the river which leads to the village for bread and croissants and provisions. Canoes are available to hire just a few miles along the river.
We had a lovely week in glorious sunshine and look forward to a return visit sometime soon.
