The Brittany / Morbihan region

Brittany is one of France’s favourite holiday destinations. Inland there are woodlands and river valleys, and charming historic towns and villages to visit and don’t miss the prehistoric standing stones at Carnac, one of the mysterious wonders of France. There is also over 600km of coastline with fabulous sandy beaches, rocky coves, dramatic cliffs, pretty harbours and offshore islands to explore.

Brittany is on the west coast of France, it has a warm temperate climate. Rainfall occurs regularly - which has helped keep its countryside green and wooded - but sunny, cloudless days are also common, in the summer temperatures often reach 30 degrees. The walled city of Saint-Malo (Sant-Maloù), a popular tourist attraction, is also an important port linking Brittany with England and the Channel Islands. Brittany is famous for its megalithic monuments, which are scattered over the peninsula, the largest alignments are near Carnac.

St Servant Oust area

We personally love Josselin for its castle. Vannes for its boutiques, chocolate & cake shops, as well as a great market on wednesdays & saturdays. Ploermel for the Lac au Duc, the largest lake in Brittany, complete with water sports & 9 hole golf course. Also its bowling alley for those odd rainy days with fabulous restaurant ! Le Roc St Andre for hiring a boat & travelling along the Brest - Nantes canal, as well as Roc Adventure ( a high wire forest adventure course ) for those of you who enjoy a challenge ! Malestroit for canoeing & kayaking. Lizio for its horse riding centre, ciderie, insectarium & eco museum. Rochefort en terre for being beautifully quaint. Questembert for its market held on mondays, & its Bastille day celebrations. And of course not forgetting Brittanys beautiful coastline & beaches, of which Damgan seems to have been very popular with our guests.

Definitely something to suite everybodies holiday needs !

Because we are based in Kent, we have always travelled to our cottage via Speed Ferries, which is the fastest ferry crossing between Britain and France taking just 55 minutes, costing from £29.00 one way. Our cottage is approximately a 5 hour drive from Boulogne, depending on how many stops you make along the way ! Alternatively there are several other ferry companies such as Brittany Ferries, Condor Ferries, P&O Ferries and Seafrance, taking you from other parts of the South East coastline to Brittany.
Other options are flying with Ryanair, Aer Arann, Flybe, Air France and British Airways into Lorient, Nantes or Rennes.
Try http://www.flightmapping.com/Europe/France/ for more flight information.
Finally Eurotunnel will take you from Folkstone to Calais / Coquelles within 35 minutes platform to platform.

Our most recent purchases for the house are a breadmaker & an iPod docking system with speakers.

Further details outdoors:
The garden is 3/4 of an acre, perfect for countryside relaxation. It is currently work in progress, as we are having to wait for the right season to sort it out properly, although very usable still.

In the outside gite you will find outdoor furniture to sit 8 people along with 2 sunloungers. We have 2 further sunloungers waiting to be taken to the house, but as we bought them in England & as they take up a lot of car space, so far there are only 2 actually in France.
