Situated on a small farm in a region of rolling hills surrounded by vines and plum trees. The farmhouse is built of traditional stone with panoramic views of the countryside.
St. Sernin de Duras (2km), the closest village has tennis courts, restaurant, wine tasting, public phone, and a small self-service shop for bread, croissants and the immediate necessities, which is also the local Cafe with a pool table and 'babi-foot'.
Enjoy strolling round the markets available in a different town on almost every morning of the week. Soak up the atmosphere of evening markets and the many fêtes, music festivals, and antique markets in the region.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
6km from the historic market town of Duraswith its impressive chateau, Le Pin is a suitable centre for visits to the Dordogne valley with its world famous prehistoric cave paintings and cliff dwellings as well as the wine chateaux of St. Emilion,Bordeaux, Entre Deux Mers, Bergerac, Monbazillac and the Cotes de Duras.
The rich and fertile countryside is crossed by many rivers, the most famous and beautiful being the Dordogne, the Lot and the Garonne. There are vineyards and orchards in abundance, the latter producing the famous pruneaux d’Agen while everywhere you are reminded of the historical importance of a region which provided the backcloth to much of the 100 Years War. There are fine mediaeval chateaux and the ‘bastides’ or fortified market towns several of which, for example, Eymet and Monpazier, remain largely as they were created 600 years ago.
"This entire valley is so full of vineyards, flowered meadows, cultivated fields, fruit tree plantations deliciously shaded by hedges, watered by springs, crossed by streams, rich in harvests, that their owners seem to have had a vision of paradise". So wrote Sidoine Apollinaire, the Latin poet some 1500 years ago about the valley of the river Dropt. These words could have been written about the area today, so little has changed. It is now as then, a peaceful retreat from the rigours of life.
St. Sernin de Duras area
St. Sernin de Duras is the closest village.
The Cotes de Duras was one of the first wine producing areas of France to be awarded AOC status and you can sample the light but fruity reds and crisp dry whites by visiting some of the 50 or so growers.
Locally there are TENNIS COURTS, CANOEING, and a PONY CLUB.
Within about 20 – 40 minutes drive there are two 9 hole and three 18 hole GOLF COURSES.
CYCLING is very popular as the countryside is ideal – quiet country lanes and rolling, picturesque country. Le Pin has 2 mountain bikes - more can be hired locally.
THE CUISINE of S.W. France is justly renowned and consists of more than just the expensive foie gras and truffles. Restaurants and bars offering 4 or 5 course meals with wine for around 12 euros represent astonishing value for money while for 25 euros and more you can enjoy superb menus gastronomiques.
How to get there
We are only a ½ hour drive from Bergerac or 1½ hours from Bordeaux.
Flights to BERGERAC are available from Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol & Liverpool (Ryanair); Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Southampton and Exeter, (Flybe).
Flights to BORDEAUX are available from Birmingham and Manchester (Bmibaby); Gatwick (British Airways); Bristol and Luton (Easyjet) Southampton (Flybe).
