The Midi-Pyrénées region
St Sernin De Duras is a small hamlet of about 360 inhabitants, the area is surrounded by vines, woods and lakes. We are only a short walk from Lac Castelgaillard which is a 54 acre lake set in stunning surroundings.
Duras is a casteled town and the castel is a 'must visit' as are the night markets, and festivals that are held in the local villages from April onwards. Duras also boasts an amazing chocolate factory which is another place to discover.
Amongst the lovely vines is of course the vineyards who welcome visitors and offer samples of their wines for you to try and buy if you wish. In mid summer the vines compete with the sunflowers for color and spectacular beauty.
Ste Foye La Grand has a large market on Saturday mornings where you can inspect he local produce, enjoy a coffee in one of the many pavement cafes and soak up the atmosphere of France. Further down the road Bordeaux offers the longest high street in Europe with an abundance of shops. Sundays there are antique markets along the river banks, which if you have the time well worth a visit, as is the Dune du Pila close to the Aarachon Bassion on the coast from the top of which you can see fabulous visitas. On the first Sunday of the month the medieval town of Bergerac holds an antique fare in its old quarter. Bergerac is our closest airport but don't fly in and forget to go back and explore the town itself, it is a lovely town with boat rides on the river, and a wine museum.
St. Sernin de Duras
This area of South West France is well know for its plum orchards and prunes are on sale the whole year round. Another gastronomic specialty of the area is duck. There are many outlets selling superb duck breasts and confit of duck is something well worth a try. We are lucky to have so many wonderful restaurants in the area, 10 with Michelin stars, offering various priced menus you will be spoilt for choice.
Long quiet roads lend themselves to exploration by bicyle, the rivers by kayaks, there are woods and tracks to explore by horse back, and of course the climate! Long sunny warm days await you.......................... what are you waiting for?? Come on arrive.

"The perfect Gite"
What a gem we found when we got in touch with David and Tina to stay at their Gite - peace quite, stunning scenery, exceptionally well equipped and comfortable Gite. Close to Duras where there are shops, restaurants and bars not to mention the Chateaux. Would definitely recommend this Gite to anyone.

"Fabulous accommodation in amazing surroundings"
Le Prunerie is a fabulous one bedroom gite finished to a very high standard. This is the first time we have visited this part of France and were stunned at the beauty of the countryside and the friendliness of the locals. Our hosts Tina and David Evans could not be faulted either. Always available with helpful advice on places to go and things to do.
