About the home

A holiday at Walnut Cottage has something for everyone for those who want to experience long and relaxing days, for those who wish to swim and try the water sports at the beach. For those of you who are golfers so many courses to choose.

Fishermen, there is a wide range of fish, the carp will pleasantly shock you; they come from all over Europe to fish in this area. Not forgetting the amateur photographer, the walker, the cyclist, what ever you want from your holiday, the Creuse and surrounding area has this and more to offer.
For all animal lovers you could'nt chose a better place to be ZooParc de Beauval has Giant Pandas found nowhere else in France, as well as so many other animals a full days visit is a must. Then there is La Vallee des Singes where monkeys and apes are many, how about Planete Crocodiles where there are plus 200 crocodiles to see how amazing are these places to visit and only a car ride away so you see there is definatly something for everyone hope to see you very soon and please if you have any questions remember we are here to help. Home comfort is our priority you will find Walnut Cottage more than comfortable with its original oak beams and doors, carpeted lounge and bedroom area both newly fitted

Newly installed in the kitchen you have an electric hob, fridge, microwave, grill/oven and all the usual items a kitchen needs to make life easy... Adjacent to the Lounge/kitchen is the shower room/toilet also newly fitted.

On arrival you will find complimentary Tea Coffee and Sugar and a welcome pack AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.

Walnut Cottage is set in a large well design garden with plenty of flowers trees and shrubs. To add to your comfort there are sunbeds hammock tables chairs a purpose built stone BBQ swings and fish pond.

We are keen veggie gardeners so if, when you are here, the vegetables are ready to be picked, you are very welcome to help yourself, the same is for the fruit.

There is virtually no traffic so it is very safe for children. There are many shady places for you to read or just relax. The garden is large enough for children to play and have fun.

The garden is shared with the owner although it is large enough to feel private.

If there is anything we can supply that has not been mentioned please feel free to ask.

As there is no washing machine in the cottage a laundry service can be provided (Prices on request).

Towels and bed linen are supplied at the beginning of your holiday however please bring towels that are to be used outside.

You will always find Walnut Cottage clean on your arrival.

Where Walnut Cottage is situated in Parchimbaud, the area is absolutely stunning steeped in history and places of interest to see Argenton for its Roman remains and museum not forgetting the picturesque town with the medieval dwellings alongside of the river, a must for the photographer.

Gargilesse voted one of the most beautiful villages in France home of George sands. Valley of the painters (The Sedell Valley) where Monet and other impressionist came to paint. Fressline where the two rivers meet.

The Chateau Crozant known for its outstanding beauty the ruins and so much more.The tree lakes. The Boat trips on the Creuse the numerous walks the water sports the Restaurants, the markets, the list goes on and on...

St Sebastien is central for all your needs situated in one of the most beautiful areas. St Sebastien is in easy reach of all the areas we have mentioned,not forgetting the train station at St Sebastien with regular trains going to Paris and other large cities.

It has its very own equestrian centre for those who love to ride in August St Sebastien hosts of fete du Chevel not to be missed.

“All in all, a truly memorable holiday” I spent a week with my wife and 2-year-old daughter at Walnut Cottage in what must have been the worst April weather conditions for many years. It barely stopped raining the whole time we were there. We nonetheless managed to have a great and truly memorable holiday – our time there really provided the perfect respite from our hectic daily lives in Paris. Walnut Cottage is extremely charming with its original stone walls and beautiful wooden beams. It is cosy and very well equipped with most of the amenities you could wish for. Upstairs is a very comfortable and attractive bedroom. A cot was also provided for our daughter. The cottage is finished to a very good standard. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and we would have spent a lot more time in it had it not been for the awful weather. A great place to relax after a long day spent visiting the absolutely stunningly beautiful local area. Our daughter still managed to have great fun, in between the showers, playing on the swing, kicking her football around and going to visit the animals kept by the neighbours. One of the greatest things about our stay was the wonderful welcome we received from the owners, Vivien and Fred. They absolutely love where they live and are more than happy to share their extensive knowledge of the local area, dispensing great tips on where to visit, tailored to the interests of the individual visitors. In our case, with my wife 7 months pregnant, an energetic 2-year-old in tow, combined with the incessant rain, you might think the options were very limited but, following their advice, we were able to see a great deal of this beautiful area. As hosts, they are unfailingly generous and thoughtful and the "welcome pack" that greets you when you arrive is just one example of that. I have come away a huge fan of La Creuse, a hidden gem of a French region, with countless picturesque villages and tiny hamlets set among some truly gorgeous countryside. Certain parts, such as the beautiful Sedelle river were quite reminiscent of my native Scotland. I thoroughly recommend a stay in Walnut Cottage. “Lovely place for a relaxing, quiet holiday” We spend a week in Walnut Cottage in June 2012 and very much enjoyed it. The Cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped and the owners, Vivien and Fred, were very friendly and always helpful. When we arrived there was a generous welcome pack of food waiting for us which was a real godsend as we arrived quiet late with no shops or restaurants open. The Cottage is situated in a lovely garden where we could help ourselves to fresh strawberries. We found that there were lots of interesting places to visit in the Creuse region. We particularly liked Argenton and of course Gargilesse, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Everywhere you visit there is a relaxed atmosphere, the perfect antidote to busy working life in an English city. All in all, we had a great week amongst beautiful countryside. The lovely cottage and friendly hosts were the icing on the cake and we would very much like to return in the future. “Brilliant” The only problem is where to begin,the place is so wonderfully tranquil,pretty and I wish I lived there. Vivian and Fred were lovely hosts and it was an ideal location for touring. The cottage was lovely and clean and a welcome pack was much appreciated. We hope to go back and stay again at this idyllic location. “Great cottage, great hosts, wonderful welcome, great area!” We stayed here for five nights as part of a touring holiday and loved it. Despite lots of rain (out of character for the area and time of year) we enjoyed our stay. The cottage is pretty, well-equipped and well-designed - bijou in the best sense of the word! Fred & Viv provided a wonderful welcome (and a wonderful welcome pack!) and encouraged us to make full use of the garden and to help ourselves to the veg in their veg garden. They had lots of ideas for places to visit in poor weather, so we weren't stumped. There was lots of info in the cottage about the local (and not so local) area. Parchimbaud is roughly in the middle of France so you can get to several different areas without having to travel too far. We particularly liked a huge country park largely made up of lakes, with an interesting stone-built visitor centre and an excellent cafe - great food & great service, reasonably priced. Can't remember the name - Bresse something? -but Fred will tell you! Because Walnut Cottage is more or less in the middle of the country it makes a great stopping off point if you're driving down to the South, or even travelling along the Loire Valley and want to branch out a bit. You won't find a better welcome! We came back in 2012 when we next did France! “Beautiful honeycomb with lovely garden and nice area!!” A very nice place to be with very pleasent owners. Fred& Vivien are always prepared for help or advise. Thea area is great. A big lake in 15 km (lac du eguzon/de chambon), good to swim, sail, fish or do other watersports. Visit a few small villages like Crozant, Fresselines or Chateauroux. It's necessary to visit Oradour sur Glane. A small town wich has been "shut down and burned" during the war. It is still a deep emotional rememberance you must see. The Walnut cottage is nice but small. Maybe for 4 big adults too small, but for parents with 2 kids very good. The kitchen is okay, TV is working en the nice creative bathroom has been build bij Fred, with idea's and love. The garden is great to stay for breakfast, dinner or BBQ. At last you have to play golf on the great course near Pouligny-Notre Dame(35 km). Thenx Vivien & Fred for tour hospitality, we will meet again!! “Lovely cottage in a beautiful area” We were truly fortunate to have come across this cottage through Holiday Lettings! We booked it on a whim!. Our holiday was everything we could have wished for - thank you Fred and Vivien! The cottage was set in a beautiful, peaceful garden. It was pristine, the bedroom under the eaves, reached by steep stairs, was delightful and the bed very comfortable. The kitchen area and small very clean shower room was everything we needed. Our adult son even stayed comfortably on the sofa bed for a few nights! Over 10 days we were given fresh sheets and towels regularly and asked if we needed anything else. Although we shared the garden with Fred and Vivien, we had plenty of privacy and loved sitting out there - ideal for drinks at the end of the day or just for reading!. We asked them for ideas on places to visit and restaurants to eat out. We found lovely places that we would not have found on our own -most within 30 mins drive. We even borrowed bikes to explore the area further. They were wonderful hosts and made the stay very special. I would highly recomend this cottage to anyone else who enjoys exploring small villages and wonderful countryside. Response: We cannot thank you enough for your amazing comments. It is so good others see our little piece of paradise as we do we remember your time here with much fondness you explored our area with such enthusiasm and we shared your experiences each evening. “Great people, unique cottage, peaceful surroundings, one to keep going back to.” Friendly and interesting hosts. Beautiful and unique cottage in a secluded garden setting. Quiet village with absolutely no traffic or noise and well positioned for a touring holiday. Could not have been made more welcome. We shall definitely make a point of staying there again the next time we tour around France. We ask for a breakage deposit of £100 payable by cheque with the balance of your payment. This cheque will not be cashed and returned to you within 14 days subject to satisfactory inspection.Walnut Cottage is available from 4pm on the first rental day and to be vacated by 10am on the last day.

Heating is available if needed however we do charge for this (prices on request)

Breakfast on request is 7 euros per person per day

Dinner on request is 15 euros per person per day

We welcom pets the cost of their stay is 30 euros.
