Home description
Whether you are a group, a family or a private party, perhaps seeking a short break, a holiday or celebrating a special occasion, the 18th century Manoir Les Ecures is the perfect rural French holiday destination for a quiet getaway. The Manoir Les Ecures offers a range of 4 star to 3 star accommodation with character and being within easy reach of Calais, Dieppe & Boulogne, is very convenient from the UK.
The Manoir sleeps 10 guests, either on a catered or self-catering basis. This is a unique French countryside retreat with great facilities, including a large covered heated swimming pool and on a more casual basis, croquet, table tennis and volleyball/badminton. Also within the grounds is a barn and chapel, sleeping 6 and 2 guests respectively. The other properties are entirely self contained but can be hired in conjunction with the main house to sleep 18 in total.
The property is perfectly located for exploring everything Normandy has to offer, from the chalk lined beaches of La Manche to the medieval city of Rouen with the rural idyll between, rich with historic chateaux and famous gardens. The Normandy / Seine-Maritime region
Calais is 90km away. Close to the Manoir les Ecures there is one of the largest sustainable forests in Europe. Wild boars, deer, badgers, red squirrels and buzzards can be seen. Riding and pony trekking can be organised at an excellent riding stable nearby. Normandy is a top rate golfing destination, where you will have more than 30 courses to choose from. The beaches are unspoilt and atop the chalk cliffs there are many villages with restaurants serving wonderful seafood where you can enjoy the views. Rouen (25km) is only a short drive away. It has an impressive Cathedral and medieval old quarter and Paris is only just over 1hr away by train. The Deauville Film Festival is growing in popularity and you may have chance to see a film star in September!
St Saens area
- Swimming and sunbathing on the beautiful sandy west coast beaches at Cartaret, where the gulf stream produces a little-known sunny microclimate. - Country and coastal rambling, this region was the most affluent in France in the 18th Century and has a wealth of grand houses, gardens and culture. There is a labyrinth of beautiful ancient walkways, for which we have detailed maps. - Shopping at the daily regional markets, particularly the one in medieval Bricquebec on Monday (9am to 12.30pm) - A trip across the oyster beds by amphibious craft to Tatihou island, an ancient penal colony and bird sanctury off St. Vaast la Hougue. - An evening at the village butcher's bar are brilliant. An informal 4 course meal usually cooked over a fire (€10 including wine and cider). Children are welcome, and at half price! - Incomparable moules frites at a quayside bar in Cartaret, opposite the Channel Islands. - An omelette aux lardons avec frites at the end of your coastal walk Omonville la Rougue at the harbour bar. - A visit to some local chateaux and their gardens, Toulaville, Vauville, Urville-Nacqueville, Crosville, and Martinvast. - The great Bayeux tapestry exhibition is only 45 minutes away. - A round of golf at Cherbourg's picturesque, quite demanding (and underused!) golf course at Glacerie. - The landing beaches and museums. - A fun few hours at the indoor pool, with the snaking slides at La Piscine de Collignon in Tourlaville (east Cherbourg). - Surfing (or watching them!) at Sciotot bay. - A flutter at Cherbourg casino, rounding off the night in the local nightclub. - Tea or aperatifs on the quayside at Barfleur, after climbing the 365 steps of Gatteville lighthouse. - Succumbing to the many temptations at Auchan, the best of the three hypermarkets in the region. - A boat trip round the Napoleonic harbour in Cherbourg.
