La Tuilerie/Moulin de la Roque
Farmhouse | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
La Tuilerie is located on the estate of Le Moulin de la Roque, the site of a an originally 15th century flour mill. There are several lodgings on the estate, a little provencal village, all renovated from original buildings that once served the old mill. All the lodgings are in orginal stone with old beamed ceilings and decorated with provencal charm and taste. The gated estate is quite large, stunnningly beautiful, very secluded.
LE MOULIN DE LA ROQUE - Noves (between Saint-Remy-de-Provence and Avignon), is a beautiful estate of 5 hectares (12 acres). Very secluded, it is accessible only by two private lanes, one lined with century old plane trees, the other bordered by a lovely flowing river that fed water to the mill for hundreds of years.
IDEALLY LOCATED IN THE HEART OF PROVENCE - one of the primary benefits of staying at the Moulin- in addition to the beauty and charm of the estate, we are within 20 to 30 minutes from the most of the major sites of Provence such as : the Luberon (Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Ménerbes et Lacoste), Avignon and the Palace of the Popes, Chateaufneuf-du-Pape and the Cotes du Rhone wine region, the Pont du Gard, Arles, Les Beaux and the Les Alpilles. We are at 45 minutes from Aix en Provence and 1 hour from the charming seaside fishing village of Cassis or the Camargue.
THE TRADITIONAL PROVENCAL VILLAGE of NOVES is just a short walk from the estate. Noves is not yet flooded with tourists. Here you will find the real Provencal life as you pick up your bread, pastries and groceries from the small local markets each day. In the afternoons you can enjoy incredible sunsets from our cliff top as you take walks through the forest (over 150 hectares) perhaps gathering fresh rosemary and thyme for your dinner.
THE ESSENCE OF PROVENCE is alive at the Moulin where the history is rich and the weather and charm unsurpassed. When you arrive, your senses will be immediately tantalized by the scents of thyme and rosemary which grows wild all around the property. But the beauty of the dazzling sunlight as it bathes adjacent vineyards, orchards and olive groves is what people and the artists from around the world flock to Provence to experience.
BARON GUY FALLON & GABRIELLE (Gaby), the owners : we will welcome you as our guests to visit our estate, our home, our paradise in Provence. We live in the manor house on the estate and are here to support you in any manner you need whether it be translation, touring, shopping, directions, if you need a doctor, to help you integrate into the French Provencal culture or if you may simply need to borrow a “cup of sugar”. Nothing can ruin a vacation more than if you have a problem in your vacation home. We have a full time staff (no need to call a plumber and wait a week) who will attend to your needs immediately whenever possible. This is rare in Provence!
A SMALL PROVENCAL VILLAGE : Le Moulin and its renovation has been a passion for us for over 17 years. We have renovated it with taste, great attention to keeping the history and the charm and we have created a unique ambiance that reminds us of a quaint Provencal village of another age. It now includes five charming houses around the main garden and four beautiful lodgings cleverly incorporated into the historic old mill. Each property is unique and was designed to combine tradition and modern comfort. Decorated in the spirit of Provence, they are spacious and fully equipped so you can stay as long as you want. Each entity, very private from the other, has its own terrace, barbecue and garden furniture in teak.
SPACIOUS, there is a large open grass park bordered by old trees for running and playing, with games for children and adults; pétanque (provencal lawn bowling game), badminton, volleyball, two large trampolines, table tennis and foosball and a beautiful Roman style swimming pool with two cabanas.
THE FLEXIBLE STRUCTURE OF THE ESTATE, makes us a great alternative for groups of any kind whether it be artists workshops, family reunions or any other sort of large group who desires space, privacy, beauty and support. We also have two large rooms which can serve as meeting space, studios or for meals and receptions for your group.
We hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you into our home and to share our Provence and our mill with you for your holidays. La Tuilerie offers charm and comfort. It is the most historic and archticurally interesting on the estate.
Four large bedrooms, decorated in fresh provencal fabrics, offer you either king size or twin configuration, your choice. Everyone, no matter what teh configuration of your group or family can have the bed of your choice. No one will be stuck in a room with twin beds when wanting king size or a room for children. For further convenience, in each bedroom, there is a private hidden sink. There are two baths, one in travertine marble with rain shower the other with tub and rain shower decorated in lovely Spanish tiles.
There is a large eating area with antique oak table and chairs and one entire wall of the kitchen is glass doors leading to your private stone terrace and walking paths. The kitchen has just been renovated with new appliances, expanded counter space and lovely french tiles.
There is plenty of space in this charming house for all. The salon is well separated on the third level open to the dining area below, spacious kitchen, a meeting area for all, or you can relax on your large very private terrace surrounded by flowers, private garden with thyme, olive trees, rosemary and lavendar with an expansive forest just adjacent. There is a built in barbecue, teak table and chairs, parasol and comfortable lounge chairs for sunning or just relaxing.
The four bedrooms are on separate floors (two the ground level and two on the level with the kitchen) which adds even more privacy if sharing with a group or to separate families and children.
You will love this unique house. It is very popular, especially in the summer months. One comment that we often have from our guests when arriving "it is so much more beautiful than the photos!" We think that when you arrive, you will say the same!
|Further details outdoors|
The grounds are magnificent. In addition to the chateau-like atmosphere of the buildings themselves (the manor house, the mill and the surrounding buildings) you will also feel as if you are on your own private estate in your individual farmhouse or mas. The Wysteria covered terraces, the palms, century old olive tree, lavendar and other flowers provide beauty and shade. The grand lawn makes not only for a stunning view but also a place where children can run and play in security without disturbing other guests.
The estate is secured by two gates, a river and a forest and you will see no roads or other industrial sites from your house.;nothing but nature. A large cliff jutting from the forest hovers over the property creating an impressive ambiance and backdrop for the estate. You will enjoy the expansive pool with plenty of space for relaxing both in the shade and sun or playing games in the cabana. The children will enjoy the two trampolines located near the pool and the badmitton court just adjacent. Taking leisurely strolls along the river, in the forest or to the village will be a pleasure each day. The Moulin is very unique. A magical place that you will never forget and want always to return.
During our season (April through October,) we rent from Saturday to Saturday only with a one week minimum. Included in your rental are all your bed (king or twin, your choice), bath and kitchen linens, coffee, sugar and filters to start, paper products to start, and dish and laundry soap throughout your stay.
When you arrive, you will have nice bottle of wine waiting for you and plenty of information on touring the area. We will greet you warmly and provide whatever you may need to make your holidays relaxing and memorable.
The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region
Provence, located in the South of France, is famous for the mild climate, the brilliant sunlight, its charming villages and countryside and its unique traditions. From the Moulin de la Roque, within 20 minutes to 1 hour, you will discover the magnificence of the Les Alpilles and olive groves, the hill villages of the Luberon Mountains, the Roman history of Avignon, the Pont du Gard, the collosiums of Arles, Nimes and Orange, the famous wine region of Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape, the widerness of the Carmargue, lavendar region of Sault and Le Mont Ventoux, cezanne, Aix en Provence and the Mt. St. Victoire, and the small fishing villages of Côte d'Azure. Here, there is something for everyone - shopping, festivals, tradtion, history, hiking, rock climbing, rafting or kayaking, daily markets, and fine cuisine. Come in Spring, Fall, summer or winter. Each season offers another type of beauty. The weather is usually mild and temperate. We live outside most of the year with windows and doors open!
The area of the Les Alpilles, Saint Remy-de-Provence and it surrounding villages of Noves and others, offers charm and a beautiful rural countryside. You will see the rocky blue majestic mountains of the Les Alpilles highlighted by fields of yellow wheat, red poppies and expansive olive groves and dotted with the occasional stone farmhouses or mas. The village of St Remy is quaint, full of special boutiques for clothes, local products and delicious restaurants. Keeping the old world charm, you will love to walk through the narrow streets, enjoy the Wednesday outdoor provencal market and just take in the ambiance at an outdoor café.
Noves, a historic and quaint typical village of provence offers a different sort of ambiance as it is not touristy and still rich with the provencal French culture. A walled city from the midievil ages, you will see a quaint eglise from the 10th century, small shops and bakeries and experience the authentic slow provencal life. This area, being in the heart of Provence, offers convenience for touring as the majority of the most beautiful and famous sites are within 20 minutes to one hour driving time. This area is also perfect for biking as most of the small lanes have little traffic, weave through charming villages and are not mountainous.
Whatelse is there to do? There are the provencal markets of Isle sur la Sorgue, and other famous villages, kayaking on nearby rivers or under the Pont du Gard, horseback riding, aerial adventures, and stunning hiking trails galore. The closet large town, the walled city of Avignon offers an historic view of the Roman empire and was the home of many ancient popes, the palace still stands. Also nearby, are the Roman coliseums of Nimes, Arles and Orange, still in use today for bullfights, concerts and other events. If it is cuisine or wine you are interested in, you can visit the “Route du Vin”..the best of the Côte du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape, or the truffle market in Vaison la Romain….And if you love the seaside, you will be delighted by the little fishing village of Cassis, just 45 minutes away on the turquoise Cote d'Azure. There is something for everyone in Provence from history buffs, to gourmets, to wine connoisseurs, to shoppers, hikers, rock climbers, photographers, children and adults. There are vacations for adventure or just relaxing.
