Chateau de Sours is situated high up on a commanding limestone plateau just to the southwest of Libourne and Pomerol, and facing St Emilion. Producing the finest wines for over 200 years, our current winemakers continue to blend the traditional rigour and craftsmanship of the region with a modern creative approach that produces some of Bordeaux's best red and white wines, as well as leading a renewed interest in top class rose.
Le Studio de Chateau de Sours is new to the rental market in Autumn 2012. All bookings at our two guest properties (offer applicable to minimum one week stays) will receive a free tour of our winemaking facilities, ideal for wine enthusiasts. The Studio has been recently and sympathetically converted from the old chateau stables to offer the best of Bordeaux to visitors...a spacious and airy living area and a well-equipped kitchen/dining area, and very comfortable bedrooms and modern bathrooms.
The terrace has views over the chateau's vines as well as our potager, from where you are welcome to help yourselves to whatever is in season to cook up a storm for dinner. There is a central stylish living area with two comfortable sofas, two large footstools, coffee table, triple aspect views including glazed double doors opening out onto the courtyard. The kitchen is fabulously equipped and located off the living area with a large farmhouse table that easily seats six to eight people or more. There are large double glazed doors that lead from the kitchen straight out onto the terrace, where you will find a table, chairs, parasol and a barbeque, and also lovely views towards our potager. The double bedroom and ensuite shower room leads off the entrance hall downstairs, whereas the triple bedroom with three single beds and adjacent shower room are found up the stairs on the first floor. The double bedroom has views over the vines and our newly planted orchard, whereas the triple room looks out over the chateau's courtyard. Bathrooms have fluffy white towels, bathrobes and bathmats. There is a TV with international satellite channels and a DVD player with a small library of titles. In the courtyard you will find table tennis, balls and bats. We have three bicycles which you are welcome to use at no cost to explore the local area, on a first come first served basis. We can offer tastings of the estate wines (at a per head extra cost). We also offer the option of a fridge-stocking service before your arrival (at extra cost) which takes the strain off you a little after a long journey. We are child-friendly and can provide a cot, high chair and toys on request.

About this location
The Aquitaine region
Chateau de Sours stands in the heart of the Bordeaux region with its rich and fascinating history, wildly romantic castles and bastide towns, natural beauty, and thriving cultural life. Among the many attractions of the local area are the legendary beautiful towers and Roman remains of St Emilion, where the first vines were planted in Bordeaux; the prehistoric caves of Lesault, where the world was stunned by the discovery of the Cro Magnon cave paintings; and the galleries and museums of Bordeaux itself. The forests and rivers of the surrounding region are ideal for hiking, canoeing, riding, hunting and fishing, all of which can be organised from the Chateau, as well as no less than seven 18-hole championship golf courses within an hour's drive for the golf enthusiast.
St Quentin de Baron
St Quentin de Baron is a small traditional village in the Entre Deux Mers region of Bordeaux. It has a population of 1,300, and is situated 23kms east of Bordeaux, near to the Dordogne river. On big spring tides, the phenomenon of the Mascaret, a tidal bore on the Dordogne river, can be observed at St Pardon (about 15 minutes drive) which attracts surfers and crowds from around the world.
There are local markets in the surrounding towns and villages almost every day of the week, where a vast array of fresh local produce is on offer, including vegetables, cheeses, flowers and meat.
There is a very well-run riding stables within 4kms of the property with horses catering for all ages and abilities. There is both extensive and beautiful hacking on offer here, and also manege-based riding lessons.
At Creon (5kms) you will find the Piste Cyclable Roger Leypebie, a resurfaced disused railway line now intended for recreational cyclists. Some of the old railway stations have been converted into cafes where you can stop for a light lunch. It is possible to cycle almost all the way to Bordeaux in one direction, and as far as the beginning of the Dordogne region (Sauveterre-en-Guyenne) in the other....a total length of some 55kms. A fantastic facility to have so close by for bicycling enthusiasts. There is also a bicycle rental station at Creon, where small trailers can also be hired which attach to your bike to take your small children with you without tears!
Within 15 minutes' drive you will find St Emilion with all it has to offer to the wine and culture enthusiasts. Fabulous restaurants, beautiful old churches and buildings are here to discover, wine tastings and tours can be organised by the Office de Tourisme...here, the wine world becomes your oyster. It is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, and rightly so.
Golf can be played at Chateau Vigiers, a championship course where one can pay a daily green fee (about 30 minutes' drive). There is also a lovely brasserie here, as well as an outdoor swimming pool...great for the kids.
Canoe rental: possible at Ste-Foy-le-Grande on the Dordogne river, about 30 minutes' drive.
Bordeaux: 23kms drive from us, a city waiting to be explored and discovered. Vibrant by day and by night. Fabulous restaurants. Great shopping. Sparkling nightlife. Opera and ballet at le Grand Theatre. Cookery school at le Chapon Fin. Vinotherapie spa at Les Sources de Caudalie, Chateau Smith Haute-Lafitte, 23kms southeast of Bordeaux.
Bassin d'Arcachon: about 60 minutes' drive.
Surfing at Lacanau: world-class. About 60 minutes' drive.

"Beautiful house in a beautiful location!"
This is a beautiful house in the grounds of an amazing chateau surrounded by vineyards. The booking process was smooth and easy and we were sent details of things to do in the local area along with full directions to the chateau. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who made us feel very welcome and we felt that had there been any issues (which there were not), we could have contacted someone easily. The house is in a fantastic location, within a short drive of many local towns and places to visit. We would thoroughly recommend this accommodation and we will most definitely be returning ourselves.
We are delighted that your trip went well and that you enjoyed your time with us at the chateau. We will look forward to welcoming you back soon!

"Rent this place if you like vineyard but don't have your own."
This place is as nice as the photos show. It was clean, well decorated, efficiently organized, and spacious. It was quiet, sodate, and cosy. I wish we had booked this apartment for longer period.
Thank you! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We rented the Studio at Chateau de Sours with friends. Our trip coincided with the harvest, which is probably not the kindest time to arrive at a working chateau but it was beautiful with all the vines laden with grapes, ready for harvest.
The Studio has absolutely everything you could need for a holiday, it is beautifully appointed, tastefully decorated with a fully equipped kitchen, including a state of the art range. The rooms were comfy, with quality duvets, pillows, linen and towels - such a change from the rental "norm". There are lots of nice touches too, including board games and good books to read in case of bad weather.
You will definitely need to rent a car as St Quentin de Baron is relatively remote but there is a bakery and a well stocked convenience store in the village and of course you can buy wine direct from the chateau. Our only complaint is that we ate way too much as there are lots of good restaurants in easy striking distance.
The pretty town of St Emilion is nearby and well worth a visit and if you're looking for imposing chateaux, you can easily get to the Medoc via the Bordeaux ring road. The Arcachon basin with its imposing sand dune and sandy beaches is also an easy day trip from Chateau de Sours.
We had a wonderfully relaxing week at Le Studio and highly recommend it. We will be going back!
