Enquire nowThe Midi-Pyrenees / Lot region
The Lot simply does have "the lot" in terms of activities, climate, landscape and culture, not to mention gastronomy! They say that around every corner you will find a stunning view and that is the truth. Rolling forested hills as far as the eye can see, beautiful mediaeval hamlets and villages nestling between verdant hillsides, magnificent rivers, lakes and streams. Underground caves with prehistoric drawings and incredible rock formations; chateaux, vineyards, orchards. Whatever your idea of fun - cave-diving, rock-climbing, pot-holing, kayaking, rambling, horse-riding, cycling, swimming, fishing, golf, tennis or just relaxing - it's all here! And all amid the most glorious unspoilt scenery.
Talk of all that activity will no doubt have made you hungry and where better to eat than in the Lot? Wonderful markets full of fresh produce - walnuts, truffles, cheeses, local wines and liqueurs - and friendly, relaxed restaurants where you can savour the local gastronomy at your leisure.
The St Projet area
So many places to visit all within easy reach ... underground caverns at Padirac, the famous mediaeval Pont de Valentre (now a World Heritage Site) at Cahors, cave paintings at Cougnac (Gourdon). Then there's beautiful Rocamadour, Figeac, Sarlat, Souillac, Puy L'Eveque, Martel, Saint Cirq-Lapopie. The list is endless, but you can be sure that there is something for everyone here.
Fetes and festivals abound in all the towns and villages. Summer time is all about music and outdoor fun but there are weeks dedicated to the more serious business of food - truffle markets, wine tastings and the like. Farm visits, riverboat trips, hot air balloon rides, even hiking with a donkey as companion - you'll find it here!
Our nearest village is St Projet (5 minutes' stroll to the other side of the valley) but there are no shops here any more except for the Post Office. We have an annual Fete du Pain and several local fund-raising fetes. There's a small sports area in the village centre where you can play table tennis or practise your basket ball skills. The nearest restaurant is 2 km away at Peyrebrune: an auberge where you will find tasty local food in plentiful quantities at a good price. Le Vigan is the nearest village with shops, bar and restaurants. It's only 5 minutes' drive away and you'll find a good selection of places to eat plus tennis courts, fishing and table tennis tables.
Gourdon is our nearest town and is famous for its mediaeval centre and its annual fair. It's a friendly town with 2 weekly markets, a good range of individual shops, restaurants and cafes (great for sipping a coffee and watching the world go by or just soaking up the amazing views) and also main supermarkets. There's a swimming lake, an equestrian centre and a range of other leisure facilities here too.

A stylishly renovated, comfortable appartment, with all mod cons and a large private pool. Anna and Mel were incredibly helpful and a mine of information with regard to tourist attractions and restaurants in the area. We found the location very central for the Dordogne/Lot rivers and the numerous tourist attractions in this area. It was a pleasant surprise how traffic free the roads were. We will be visiting Les Placelles again and highly recommend it. |

This was our first trip to France, but most assuredly... not our last! Anna and I became great pen-pals months prior to our stay at Les Placelles, which made it seem like we were part of the... more |

We stayed at Les Placelles for 2 weeks in July 2012 and had a great time despite some indifferent weather. The gite is situated in a stunning location and is very tranquil and peaceful. The gite has recently been renovated by Anna and Mel who live on site to a high standard. The accommodation was superb, furnished to a very high standard and equipped with everything you would need. The kitchen is very well equipped and the gite was very spacious, clean, and welcoming with a lovely patio and pool to relax at after the day. Top all of this off with the most wonderful hosts. Anna and Mel are truly inspirational, they have done a great job in transforming this property and always available when needed but never imposing. Both are very knowledgeable of the area. Situated in a perfect location surrounded by beautiful countryside, very peaceful quiet with Cahors only a short drive away. Plenty of great restaurants and wine tasting, if you desire. Roacamdour is stunning. An abundance of fabulous wines and cheeses. We would highly recommend this property to our friends and family. |
