Chateau de Camiller

Farmhouse | 9 bedrooms | sleeps 22
Chateau de Camiller is a 17th century property set on one of the most beautiful plateaux of the Massif Central, Le Plateau de Mille Vaches. The Chateau de Camiller is surrounded by breathtaking scenery of forests, mountains and the beautiful Dordogne Valley.
With accommodation for up to 16 adults and 6 children, it's the perfect venue for a castle vacation for a large group of family & friends. This is a great value and unforgettable holiday experience – the Chateau de Camiller is full of atmosphere from the fireplaces to the Rapunzel tower.
Every room has its own atmosphere and they have all been recently refurbished with new curtains and cushions combining beautifully with the original furniture of the chateau, the antique sleigh beds and lots of Persian rugs to create a real feeling of cosiness and charm.
All the rooms are centrally heated and very cosy in the winter..... and in the summer, very cool, as the walls of this ancient chateau are many feet thick and the windows open on both sides of the house enabling cooling breezes to blow right through the house. The owners live in an annexe apartment on site so are there to offer any help should you need it.
The grounds are safe for the children; there is a dramatic fenced swimming pool, and plenty of space. The Chateau de Camiller can also be used for corporate incentive groups, small gatherings, courses and workshops.

The Limousin region
Collonges la Rouge is renowned as one of the most beautiful villages in France and is built entirely of red stone. Romanesque churches & turreted manor houses make this village well worth a visit. Nearby Turenne (11km away) is a charming city that is overlooked by an impressive chateau with views all over the surrounding countryside.
The regional park ‘Plateau de Millevaches’ contains a vast amount of hills, rivers & slopes making it a hiker’s paradise. Old villages line the edge of the park, where you take refuge after a long day’s walking.
Numerous rivers & lakes provide a whole range of water sports including sailing, canoeing, wind-surfing and water-skiing. Fishing enthusiasts will also enjoy the abundance of trout in the streams & brooks.
Limoges should be visited for its specialist enamel and porcelain and Aubusson for its tapestries.
The Regional Park of Auvergne Volcanoes has an astonishing amount of flora & fauna and 10 thermal spa areas within the ancient volcanoes.
Whether you walk, cycle or drive, you will without going far, experience a sense of tranquility, space and openness amongst the rolling hills, lakes and forests that make up this spectacular countryside. There is very little traffic and it is possible to drive for long periods without meeting any other vehicles. In fact, you are more likely to come across deer, wild boar and other wildlife.
Cycling around the lanes and lakes is a great way to see the countryside - the chateau has some bicycles for its guests and additional bicycles can be hired locally. One of the favourite bike rides is to the Lac de Feyt. This beautiful lake is only a stone’s throw from the chateau and its beach is monitored by lifeguards. There are boats for hire, tennis courts and a small restaurant.
A mere ten minutes drive from the chateau is horse riding. Further afield, there are many other pursuits including golf, hot-air ballooning, hang gliding and canoeing on the Dordogne which is just twenty minutes away in Argentat. There is also an excellent Aqua Park twenty minutes drive away which provides hours of fun for children.
Beyond Argentat you can explore the Dorgogne Valley which is full of fascinating villages, chateaux and caves. The ruins of the medieval fortress, Tours de Merle are well worth a visit. To the west are a group of villages identified as being amongst ‘Les plus belles villages de France’. There are for example, the “red town”, Collonges Le Rouge and Turenne, a 15th century village whose high pitched roofs surround two castles from which the foothills of the Massif Central can be seen.
Also to the west is the Dordogne Valley which has a wealth of picturesque towns and villages such as Argentat, Beaulieu sur Dordogne, La Roche Canillac, Loubressac, Autoire, Carennac and Martel. The Chateau de Bac, Chateau de Soulages, Chateau de Rieu, the Chateau de Val and the Chateau Rilhac-Xaintrie are all close by and the citadel of Rocamadour is only 50 minutes drive.
The Lower Dordogne and its various attractions are only an hour away. These include the famous cave paintings of Lascaux, and La Chapelle aux Saints where the oldest Neanderthal skeleton was discovered in 1908.
The Cahors, Bergerac and Bordeaux wine regions are also within easy reach. An hour and a half away is the Massif Central mountain range and its ski resorts, so it is possible to drive for a day’s skiing.
Cultural activities and events take place in many of the towns nearby with concerts and performances throughout the summer. The famous Festival of Sedieres is held in the nearby Chateau de Sedieres. This music, film and art festival is held over a six week period beginning in mid July.
Markets and fairs are held throughout the year and timetables are available from the tourist office in the local village of St Privat or online. If you are in search of gastronomic delights, there are numerous restaurants which serve delicious local dishes such as foie gras, truffles, walnuts, cassoulet, confit de canard and Cabecou cheese. A guide listing the best of these restaurants is available for guests.
