Les Aunaies - a beautifully renovated Farmhouse situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Pays d'Auge, Calvados. Les Aunaies stands in a courtyard setting overlooking a sweeping valley to the front and nestled in front of woods to the rear offering total seclusion yet still only 3 miles from the market town of St Pierre sur Dives.
Dating from the 17th century the main farmhouse is full of original features and age old oak beams. Once a working farm it has a collection of barns once used for keeping animals, storing apples for making cider and calvados and one has it's original bread oven - in days gone by a completely self sufficient farm.

The Basse-Normandie region
Les Aunaies is located in the Pays d’Auge area of Calvados in Normandy. The Pays d’Auge is a protected area because of its outstanding natural beauty and historical merit. It is typified by its ‘colombage’ (timber framed) houses, gently rolling countryside, green meadows full of cattle, acres of apple orchards and a pretty coastline.
The Normandy landing beaches spread from east to west along the northern coast, Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha and Utah. Nowadays the fashionable resorts of Deuville, elegant and luxurious and Trouville, more picturesque and simple are hubs of activity with their Casinos and famous racecourse. Honfleur, a town of artists, writers and fishermen is within easy reach and Cabourg, the romantic's dream and Houlgate are the closest coastal resort to Les Aunaies.
Caen was the home of William the Conqueror and Falaise, his birthplace. Both have impressive castles. Apart from these two, the area has a wealth of chateaux, including Vendeuvre, 10 minutes from Les Aunaies, which has beautiful gardens with fountains and a museum housing a collection of miniature furniture made by master craftsmen.
St. Pierre sur Dives, a lovely market town is approximately three miles from Les Aunaies. It becomes a hive of activity every Monday when one of the biggest market in Calvados takes place in the huge market square
The famous 11c Abbey Notre- Dame is a definite place to visit as is the 16c Halles which becomes an indoor market on Mondays
There is a supermarket, and numerous food shops and bakeries as well as a good range of general shops
There are many very good restaurants as well as creperies and bars

"Very special, beautiful farmhouse in stunning location"
We have been coming here again and again for several years as it is a very special place. We have had wonderful stays in both houses. The old farmhouse is warm inviting beautiful light spacious. We enjoyed the fire in the cosy kitchen area. The hosts are very kind and accommodating too. The house is in the middle of fields on the edge of the forest -where we often went walking- and off the beaten track. Would recommend it highly!
