About the home

Safe and isolated Les Vaux is the perfect cure for a stressful life. The house sits at the foot of Mont Cerisy with the river tumbling by a few metres away. You can fish in the river, splash about in its warm waters and let the kids have loads of fun wearing themselves out in a small inflatable boats while you enjoy a tranquil glass of wine in the sunshine with the sounds of the river and forest all around you. If you need to escape from the family there are plenty of walks in the forest or up through the rocks. Inside the house there are books, DVDs, Internet WiFi , TV , Music, a lovely large kitchen and good punchy showers . The house is great for families with lots of space, and bedrooms to suit all. It has a very large kitchen with a massive central preparation area, great for all the family to enjoy preparing a meal together with a range cooker with a gas hob and 90 cm Electric Oven for the chef's out there.

When you need to explore you have the Normandy Beaches, The Bayeaux Tapestry, The War Musiums and amazing wartime installations around the coast, all just over an hours drive away. For those who require a more immediate thrill there is Bungee jumping and a Scable run at Viaduct de la Souleuvre, or get yourselves up to the long flat well managed beaches with a power kite and dirt board.

Normandy is justly celebrated for its cuisine, fresh fish, cream and cheese figure prominently on the menus of the many excellent restaurants throughout the region. For those who wish to cook at home the excellent supermarkets and local farmers markets are a few minutes drive away.

The house is decorated simply with a mixture of modern and antique furniture. It is on three levels with bathrooms on each level, there is always a loo without climbing the stairs. There is a ground floor bathroom, accessible from outside as well as inside, with a shower and toilet ideal for those muddy moments in the river. A snug to escape the rabble and a computer with internet. A library with children's books, fiction, magazines, technical and art books something for everyone. There is also an extensive collectiion of films of all genres on DVD.

The garden is extensive and can be an adventure for children. It blends apparently seamlessly with the forest and rocks. There is a 5.5 metre above ground swimming pool, 1.2 metres deep ideal for cooling off and having fun, extensive out door dining furniture with parasoles and a gas BBQ. The large kitchen opens out directly onto the outside eating area. There is lots of off road parking at the front of the house so loading and unloading is easy and direct, your car is never more than a few paces away.

If you want to fish in the river you will need to get a local permit. Available for a few Euros at a local store

The Normandy / Orne region

Les Vaux is set in thousands of acres of countryside that makes up the five departments of Normandy. They contain a richness and diversity perhaps unrivalled in France. From the rolling hills of Suisse Normandy, the pine forests, mountains, lakes, historic towns and villages. To the flat safe well managed sandy beaches in the north. Come and surround yourself with the peace and tranquillity of the river and forest .

The St Pierre D'Entremont area

St Pierre d'Entremont is a small village, two kilometres from the house, with an excellent Boulangerie, Pharmacie, coiffeur, charcutier and epicerie, which also houses the post office.

Flers, a much bigger town, 10 minutes to the south east has bars, restaurants and shops and excellent supermarkets.

Flers has a Water park, Bowling alley with a restaurant, Chateau with gardens and a lake and wonderful shops remenicent of the good old days of the English high street.

Mont -Cerisy has forest walks, a play area for children, tracks for bikes, crazy golf, a castle and lots more. when you have done all that there is the bar for drinks and an ice cream.

The simplest way to get to les Vaux is from Caen Ouisterham by car. The Car Ferry leaves from Portsmouth and takes around six and a half hours. The drive is uncomplicated and gets you directly to us in about an hour and ten minutes. We have an information pack, which we can send to you with accurate and current directions.
There are less expensive ferries running from Dover to LeHavre Boulogne and Calais. You will need to factor in road tolls, but always compare fares or check with us before you travel, we will help as much as we can.

If you need to fly from the UK there are Flights from Stansted, East Midlands and many other local UK airports, to Dinard, which is two hours away and in its own right, a beautiful coastal town. You will need to hire a car once you are at the airport. Unlike most UK airports Dinard is tiny and efficient. Car hire is easy and inexpensive. You will often get a special offer tied in with you flights. Long haul Flights come into Charles Degaulle Airport Paris. Again you will need to hire a car. The drive is around four hours, but direct. French motorways are uncluttered and safe with loads of service stations. The Payage is the only place you will find fuel on a Sunday or after 7 pm. Unless you have a French or European Debit or Credit Card.
