The Dordogne region

Aquitaine is known for its wine, its beautiful rolling countryside, gourmet food and warm welcome. The climate is gentle with summer temperatures in the mid to high 20 centigrades and mild winters.

The area is full of prehistoric remains including the famous Lascaux cave paintings and cromagnon caves. There are Roman remains in Perigeux and many magnificent castles and medieval towns such as Beynac, Castelnaud and Sarlat.

St Perdoux

If you can tear yourself away from the pool and forest, Bergerac is 15 km away and not only has a lively Saturday market but also slow boat rides on the Dordogne river. There is an aqua park, bowling and a go-kart course. For golfers there are a few golf courses in the region, Eymet, Les Vigiers to the north of Bergerac and Miramont. For horse riders there are 2 local schools one in the Chateaux of St Exupery and one close to Issigeac. Both offer 1/2 day courses as well as rides in the local countryside.

We are a short hop away from Mobazillac with its stunning chateau and famous wine. There are many other vineyards in the area which offer wine tasting.

Bougniages is only a few km away on quiet country roads and it has a bakery, small supermarket, doctor. In the area there are many beautiful small villages such as the medieval town of Issigeac which has a famous Sunday market and Eymet with its Thursday market. Both villages offer a few good restaurants and touristic activities such as torch- lit tours of the village and medieval shows. The 12th century abbey of Cadouin is also worth a visit.

Canoeing on the Dordogne is available a day trip away under the beautiful castle of Beynac and la Roche Gageac. Castles and natural beauties abound including the prehistoric paintings at Lascaux and les Eyzies and the caves of Proumeyssac. Towns such as Sarlat with its music festival are also within easy reach.
