"We are extremely proud to announce that Kittiwake House has been awarded the Prestigious Trip Adviser Certificate of Excellence 2014! We are amongst the first Holiday Lets to receive one! This has come out of the blue and is a wonderful surprise!" Wendy x
Built in 1880, Kittiwake House is a former fisherman's cottage with a spacious and comfortable feel. Sitting just a short stroll uphill from the harbour, and with the coastal walk almost literary on it's doorstep, the house boasts magnificent sea views over traditional pan tilled roofs whilst taking in views of the Bass Rock and the Isle of May. The house has high ceilings and traditional features. On the ground floor there is a spacious and well stocked bespoke kitchen (13'8" x 12'4")with dishwasher, microwave, gas hob and electric oven, fridge, freezer and a washer/dryer. There is a double bedroom (9'5" x 9'11") with original wooden shutters, and views onto the pretty courtyard garden. The ground floor also has a new shower room and toilet. The first floor has a welcoming lounge (17'3" x 15'8") with gas living flame fire in traditional surround. TV, Wifi, DVD player and Ipod dock. Two big comfy Italian leather sofas. The luxurious family bathroom (10' x 9'4") is situated on the middle floor with walk in shower and separate freestanding bath ... perfect for indulging yourself after long walks along the coastline! The top floor is home to the master bedroom (13'7" x 15'3") again with wonderful sea views. This room has a Superking bed which can also be two singles. The second top floor bedroom (13'8" x 11'6") has a Kingsize bed and one single. The accommodation is generous and comfortable for a maximum of 7 people. There is parking available either to the front of the house or nearby. Kittiwake house also has a pretty, private and sunny courtyard garden to the rear with outdoor seating and a small garden to the front. For guests who book when there is a full moon, we hope there is a clear night so you can watch the moon rising up and over the sea .... truly magical!

The Fife region
Situated between Elie and Pittenweem in the famous East Neuk of Fife. St Monans is a friendly and traditional seaside village. An ideal holiday destination for families to explore the wonderful East Neuk fishing villages and St Andrews. An abundance of golf courses, award winning beaches, the famous coastal path and nearby water sports are just some of the attractions to be found on it's doorstep.
The Pittenweem Arts Festival takes place over ten days every August and attracts tens of thousands of visitors. The festival provides a showcase for hundreds of artists exhibiting at around 90 venues in all corners of the village. The whole of the East Neuk is abundant with artists - painters, photographers, illustrators, ceramicists and sculptors. Several times a year you can visit artists, view and buy their work during the East Neuk Open Studios weekends. We recommend it!
To many Scots the East Neuk of Fife is a well known destination for seaside holidays, but for many people in the rest of the UK, the East Neuk is a hidden gem. The East Neuk occupies the north east corner of the Fife peninsula and encompasses a string of beautiful fishing villages which look South across the Firth of Forth and around to the North Sea. We have fascinating architecture, lovely old harbours, beautiful coastal walks, spectacular seas and 100% pure, clean, fresh air. We also have:
• lovely countryside
• interesting geology
• wildlife including seabirds, seals and dolphins
• neolithic sites, including standing stones, stone circles and a souterrain
• a cliffside chain walk
• lots of golf
• great places to eat and drink
• superb gardens at Kellie Castle - our local National Trust for Scotland property
• art, art, art and more art

"Great house; lovely area; superb holiday!"
We spent a wonderful week in the East Neuk of Fife. The area is beautiful and we were able to go on some lovely coastal walks - Crail to Kingsbarns was a particular favourite. We also visited Edinburgh, St Andrews and, a little further afield, Glamis Castle and Perth. The house was absolutely delightful, with the attention to detail second to none. The bubbly and biscuits were very much appreciated - thank you! And the views from the lounge and main bedroom were simply stunning. Kittiwake House is one of the best holiday houses we have stayed in - superbly kitted out with all mod cons and yet warm and welcoming. We would wholeheartedly recommend it, as well as the East Neuk of Fife as a place to visit.
We really appreciate your feedback and comments. You are absolutely right about the beauty of the East Neuk of Fife. We believe one of Scotland’s best kept secrets is the tranquillity and beauty of this area which has completely unspoilt traditional fishing villages scattered along it’s coastline. The coastal paths are such a pleasure to walk too, so thank you for telling us about your favourite walk. We work hard to ensure our guests are made most welcome, as we believe holidays are valuable and precious time to spend with friends and family. You visited Edinburgh and Glamis Castle too, so really made the most of your week exploring the wider surroundings! We would be so pleased if you decided to return on another occasion! Thank you, Wx

"A magical place!"
We loved Kitiwake House which was just perfect. The house was beautifully appointed with everything we hoped for, from beautiful bed linen to a well equipped kitchen. The views over the rooftops to the Forth, with the Isle of May, the Bass Rock and beyond to East Lothian, were stunning. With historic harbours, castles and St Andrews, a Michlin star restaurant, all within an easy drive, St Monans was a perfect and relaxed location. Everything about Fife and Kitiwake House enabled us to spend a magical holiday, full of fun and laughter, with very dear cousins who had come all the way from New Zealand. After their six weeks touring the sights of Europe, including Rome, Venice, Dubrovnik, Budapest and Vienna, they rated their time in St Monan's as the best! Thank you Kitiwake House for making this possible.
Oh my goodness! We’ve never had a review that puts St Monans at the top of a poll of European hotspots such as Rome, Venice, Dubrovnik, Budapest and Vienna!! I am guessing you have really shown your cousins from New Zealand a great time! It sounds as though some cherished memories were created by your family, which is so wonderful! Both Kittiwake and St Monans offer a great base for a holiday that can have slow and relaxed days that are completely rejuvenating or days packed with places to visit and things to see and do! Thank you so much for booking with us and we would love to welcome you all back again for the next family gathering! Wx

"Beautiful house, welcoming and comfortable"
The house is lovely, especially the living room, which is a great place to relax in the evenings, and spacious enough for our whole group. Great views from there and from the main bedroom. Everything is provided, even prosecco and Tunnock's teacakes - what more could you want?
Thank you for leaving this review! We are so delighted you enjoyed your weekend. St Monans is a peaceful place to stay and we have tried to make the house really comfy and welcoming, with some luxurious touches! The house is spacious enough for large families or groups and we are pleased you enjoyed the wonderful views too!

"Quiet, quaint seaside location, welcoming home for families, groups with very good facilities"
Made warmly welcome in this lovely full of character home, through contact with Wendy, little important extras e.g.chocolate biscuits in jar, Prosecco in fridge on arrival, soaps etc in bathroom. Enjoyed Wendy's design/ colours in bedrooms, practicality of use in bathrooms, great for families near sandy beaches. Loved the views from front of house, esp master bedroom, sitting on front terrace in morning sun, having peaceful evening drink in enclosed courtyard, ideal if you've toddlers for play space. Used reliable public transport to and from Anstruther in evening. Liked beautiful coastal walks, views amazing. Easy safe parking close to house.
Thank you for leaving this review. Everyone deserves a little bit of spoiling now and again and even more so if you are escaping the busy pace of life for a week or a weekend! I know you stayed at Kittiwake to meet up with old friends … Kittiwake caters for groups, families and couples comfortably. The sun is at the front of the house early in the morning during spring and summer (perfect for morning coffee and sea air!) and by afternoon the courtyard at the rear of the house is bathed in sunshine too! I am really pleased you used the local bus service which goes through all the coastal villages and up to St Andrews. A good old-fashioned day oot on the bus! You are always welcome at Kittiwake when you need to slow down, relax and be with friends or family, Wx

"Beautiful, peaceful, relaxing few days away."
Kittiwake House is a charming, beautifully finished, well equipped house to stay in. We go away every February with two other couples for a few days, and this property was a an absolute joy to stay in. The house had many lovely finishing touches, was very comfortable, and in a great position for walks along the coastal path. We walked along to Ellie one day, and had a fantastic evening in The Dreel in Ansruther with amazing food and service. I would certainly recommend Kittiwake House, and would like to think that we'll return in the future. Thank you for making our stay so pleasurable.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback. We find it really helpful in ensuring we are giving guests what they are looking for in a holiday by the seaside. We are proud to know that you had a great stay with us … and we would love to welcome you back for your annual weekend with friends! The house has so much space which ensures everyone can relax without feeling cramped. We also love the coastal path to Elie, and have had many great meals at The Dreel Inn … but then again there are so many other fabulous restaurants in the East Neuk that one visit is never enough! Wx

"Beautiful house, cosy, comfortable with lots of extra personal touches."
My husband, teenage daughter, two friends and I stayed at the house 20 - 23 December '14. Effort had been taken to make the house festive with a Christmas tree, candles and other decorations. Wendy had also left a bottle of fiz to help us celebrate. The house was extremely comfortable and cosy. There were lots of additional touches such as binoculars left for our use. The decor throughout was lovely, all the rooms were spacious and very comfortable - the pictures do not do it justice. We had a lovely time relaxing playing scrabble, watching festive movies, walking locally and escaping the pre Christmas shopping frenzy. We would love to return and a big thanks to Wendy for the extra touches. It is very apparent that love and care is put into the property and this makes it stand out as a lovely holiday home rental. Thank you so much for leaving this review! We would of course agree that it is a very special place and it is interesting you describe Kittiwake House as an escape, as this is something important we believe Kittiwake offers to all our guests … some precious times together away from busy routines. The coastal paths, local beaches and walks definitely help to slow the pace of life. You are also right in terms of Kittiwake being a labour of love for us. We have a passion for comfy interiors with interesting touches here and there to ensure our guests feel welcomed. It is worth keeping an eye on the dates for the East Neuk Open Studios events to be able to enjoy some great art during the summer months! We would, of course, love to welcome you back again, Wx

"If you rent it they will come!"
I wanted a house large enough to accommodate my family and bring them together under the one roof. Kittiwake house allowed me to do just that and they came. But then I was smart enough to rent one of the finest properties in the East Neuk of Fife and you can be assured that the comments and advice on Trip Advisor are true . We had a great time in this lovely house with the perfect location. Regards Neil.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review … You originally enquired with the philosophy that ‘If you booked it, your children and grandchildren would come’ … and it worked! The East Neuk is a traditional family holiday destination that seems to call people back again and again and I am so happy you had a great family holiday together … it would be our pleasure to welcome you all back at any point in the future. "Fantastic House, excellent relaxing break"
The house was amazing, everything we needed and more. What a fantastic weekend we had. Will return x
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback as we pride ourselves on the standards at Kittiwake. We had amazing spring weather this Easter ... plus you were lucky enough to view the full moon rising up over the sea. Fabulous memories! I hope the pull of Kittiwake, St Monans and the moon call you back again soon, Wx

Kittiwake is a gorgeous house and we had such an amazing time there. The house has everything in it that you need and more - the photos of the house are great but they really don't do it justice - it's so much better when you get there. The bed was the most comfortable bed that I've ever slept in and the bath was just fantastic, great to chill out in after a lovely coastal walk. St Monan's is a lovely peaceful little place to visit and a great place to recharge the batteries. We're already trying to plan another date to go back to Kittiwake and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family - it's a beautiful place and I'd struggle to find fault with the house - you certainly won't be disappointed if you book.
WOW! ... Thank you so much for such wonderful feedback. We pride ourselves on our friendly, personal service for which we have become known and we are so pleased you enjoyed exploring St Monans and making your own discoveries. We are, of course, biaised but so many people agree that the area is very seductive and seems to pull them back again and again. Thank you for the comments regarding the comfort of Kittiwake. We are passionate about design and detail and continue to seek out stylish accessories to help create bright, breezy living spaces that sparkle with individuality. We have the dates you are looking to return and look forward to welcoming you back again! .

"Cosy, home from home."
If you like the website pictures you'll love this cottage, it is a real home from home which has been so thoughtfully equipped with amazing attention to detail. The living room has a lovely gas fire and is really comfortable with a great supply of books, magazines, games and jig-saws, something for all ages. The kitchen is so well equipped & we enjoyed cosy evening meals round the kitchen table after days out exploring. The area is great for exploring/walking. St Monans has a variety of restaurants including fine dining at Craig Millars as well as the Smoke House, we also enjoyed fish & chips at the award winning chip shop in Anstruther. We enjoyed our stay so much, the village is very pretty and the cottage ticks all the boxes; can't wait to go back.
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback! We work hard to ensure that our guests can relax together as much as possible during their stay ... life is so fast these days, that even a few days together make all the difference and are so important. We are delighted you have some happy memories to take back to Northern Ireland with you and look forward to welcoming you at any time.
