The St Monans area
Harbour Heights Fife - East Neuk Holiday Home To Let
St Monans is one of the pretty fishing villages in the beautiful coastal area of central Scotland known as the East Neuk of Fife.
Well-served by local shops, restaurants and amenities, St Monans is also a perfect spot for enjoying the great outdoors. Golfers are well-served by some of Scotland's best courses, including the world-famous St Andrews Golf Club. For those seeking a burst of adrenaline, a wealth of adventurous activities are available at Elie Watersports, a few minutes away; whilst a more gentle pace is offered by the region's stunning scenery and many walks on St Monans doorstep.
St Monans itself is steeped in history. A village called Inverie existed here as far back as the ninth century; and in about 875 St Monanus or St Monan was buried at a shrine here and the village was renamed St Monans.
South west of St Monans, the coastal path passes the remains of two castles. Newark Castle is the most striking, with substantial remains standing on top of the crumbling cliffs. Similar is Ardross Castle, the remains of which can be found overlooking the shore a little nearer the neighbouring East Neuk town of Elie.
At the heart of St Monans is "The Shore": the road that runs alongside the harbour; divided into West Shore, Mid Shore and East Shore.
The Shore is lined by a spectacular selection of distinctive beautiful cottages, houses and grander buildings that so typify East Neuk fishing villages topped off by red tiles imported from the Netherlands.
St Monans' industrial past extended beyond fishing and shipbuilding. At one point the harbour was used to export locally extracted iron ore, while a few hundred yards to the east of the village is another industrial relic. St Monans Windmill and the sites of nearby buildings are all that remain of a once thriving centre for salt production, in which sea water was evaporated over fires stoked with locally mined coal. These are some of the best preserved relics of an industry that once lined both shores of the Firth of Forth.

I have just returned from a fabulous weekend away at Harbour Heights with my family for my dad's 60th. My family are generally hard to please but having stayed here before I was confident they would all be impressed and I was not disappointed. The owners, Russell and Fiona have done an incredible job in creating this wonderful home, the attention to detail is astounding. Everything is catered for, from golf clubs and bicycle, to hot water bottles for those cold winter nights. My mum, sisters and I all enjoyed exploring the house and looking at all the wee bits and bobs. Russell and Fiona are clearly focused on ensuring their guests have a fabulous time and even left 2 bottles of wine and a birthday card from my dad - what a lovely touch! There were 7 adults and a baby and there was plenty of space for us all. I would definitely recommend Harbour Heights to anyone! Just don't tell too many people, I suspect it won't be long before this place becomes fully booked! Response: thank you for your very kind words, come again ! |

We had a lovely family weekend break here earlier this year. Beautiful house, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you need and more. Nice quiet location, but lots to do in the surrounding area if you choose. We definitely intend to return here again. Response: thank you ! |
