A self catering 3 star classified, by Ministry Tourisme, apartment in a former barn attached to our 400 year old Normandy farmhouse we have renovated it to incorporate modern comfortable living along with the ambience of an old stone building. Set within the grounds of large country house of over 3 acres, both our units have separate entrances, secure parking and completely self contained... if you don't want to see us you don't!

This is a child free zone... we particularly attract couples looking to switch off and explore the area at a gentle pace, here there are no traffic jams, stress and certainly none of the hustle and bustle of city living! We couldn't be more opposite to modern day living with busy stressful careers, (we had those in London before moving to France 10 years ago!)...but, with the comforts that discernible couples are looking for.

Within 10 minutes of Utah Beach and set within the Park Naturel Cotentin & Bessin. We are ideal for long country or beach walks, there are rivers and canals, bird watching, the river Douve only 3km from us has a boat trip through the Marshes to see Cranes, Marsh Harriers, Egrets just to name a few species.

Set in the heart of the Normandy D Day Invasion beaches with WW2 Utah Beach just 10 minutes away, Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan both 4 miles from us, & as we are 2 minutes from N13 we are in an ideal location for easy access to go sight seeing, war tours etc.

We keep our pets here which include 2 Llamas, 3 Alpacas, 2 black sheep, a kune kune pig, 2 goats, chickens & a goose - everyone has a name and are not for eating! Also part of your stay here are our nutty Jack Russell's that are totally convinced we do the holiday rentals just for them to play with our visitors...they love our guests! 8 cats...all rescues, (we haven't chosen anybody they chose us!)...so please if you don't like animals this is not the place for you.

This apartment, a large open plan living/ dining area with a newly installed Godin wood burner - the new CO2 efficient design... curl up on the sofa watch TV or read a book in front of a roaring log fire... bliss! TV, DVD. Sky Free to view, stereo & radio.

There is free wifi throughout...but please do note the walls are over 4' thick so sometimes the signals can drop for a little while.

The double bedroom has a spacious en suite with a wet room area along with a super king sized bed 6'6" long x 6' wide...or can be 2 3' wide single beds. We're sorry but unsuitable for children or babies.

Note we are Ferme de l'Eglise which translates as Church Farm...we are right opposite the Church...please do not book here if you don't like Church bells or country noises.

Bayeux, Mont St Michel are just short drives away, it is even possible to go to Jersey for the day from here!

Bayeaux half an hour away, Caen, now that's a city worth exploring where William the Conqueror ruled from and is buried.... St Vaast a UNESCO site 20 minutes away, Honfleur 2 hours...the problem here is there is too much to do!

The Normandy region

Regional Park: We are set in Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. Utah Beach located just 10 minutes away is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres this area being upgraded to a UNESCO site. The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast, is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty. This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.

The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, seafood lovers note the Oyster beds are located on Utah Beach and it's possible to buy Oysters at ridiculous low prices! Wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!

Don't forget GOLF plenty of courses.

Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded.

With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals. Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally

St Mere Eglise

We're very close to the motorway (can't hear it) equidistant 8kms to Carentan, Ste Mere Eglise and Utah Beach. We're in the heart of the American sector WW2

Coleville Sur Mer the American Cemetery, Ste Mere Eglise our local town with the parachutist still depicted on the Church Tower, Omaha Beach, Arromanches, Mulbery Harbour, Point du Hoc,

Carentan our other local town bigger than Ste Mere Eglise has 5 supermarkets, harbour and large market day on a Monday. Plus direct train to Paris.

Bayeux, Mont St Michel, Channel Islands all with in easy access.

Monet's Garden 2 hours away.

It was a complete honour & privilege to have your father here and for us to take him round the area, it was a fabulous experience for us as well, to hear 1st hand his memories and recollections from the huge events here in 1944 it truly gave us a real insight into what some the young men 69 years ago went through. For us it really underlined why we love it so much round here, to see the local people wanting to thank your father, the directors of the museums welcoming him, the staff at The American Cemetery so helpful, all the local Mayors as well looking to mark his 2nd visit...we are only a small part of what you father gave.

Thank you for taking the time to write about our apartment...we do say and warn that we are Ferme de l'Eglise in other words Church Farm and that we right opposite the church, there is a donkey in the field next to the garden and we have cockerels, please do not book here if you don't like country noises or church bells!

Our house is over 400 years old with stone walls in excess of 1 meter thick... to bring modern conveniences to an old stone house can be quite tricky especially if the ISP is running at a lower speed than normal...we have 2 boosters and currently exploring the feasibility of an outside Ariel, (without having to obtain a special license),to speed things up, however, it turns out though, whilst you were here there was a fault with France Telecom, we had an apology through...again we do point this out in our advertisement that we do have very thick stone walls...we too have dead spots in our part of the house. If there is anything urgent that needs to be dealt with while anyone is staying here they only have to say & are welcome to come into the office to sit beside the Livebox where the signal is at the optimum...we put table & chairs on the terrace right beside where the Livebox is situated so in the good weather people can use their computers outside if they want to.
We returned as recorded delivery the rucksack that was left behind.
