Normandy Holiday Cottage
About the home
Just 10 minutes from Utah Beach, as we're 8 kms from equal distant to Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan, 2 minutes off the N13 our Normandy holiday cottage is in absolutely ideal location for discerning couples to explore the WW2 d day Invasion beaches. Arromanches, Bayeux, Bayeux Tapestry, Omaha Beach,
Our holiday accommodation here in Normandy is designed to attract couples looking to escape, switch off and explore the area at a gentle pace, this is a child free zone...here there are no traffic jams, stress and certainly none of the hustle and bustle of city living! We couldn't be more opposite to modern day living for those with busy stressful careers, (we had those in London before moving to France 12 years ago!) or for grandparents looking to escape from babysitting duties, teachers from the classrooms or even mums & dads just getting away for a while...but, with the all the comforts that modern living requires to include free WIFI throughout.
Along with all The Normandy Beaches just a stones throw away the American Cemetery, Point du Hoc, Arromanches, are all less than 40 minutes away, Pegasus Bridge & Mont St Michel just an hour away, we are right in the heart of it all. We have designed our own tour of The Normandy Beaches which we can print out for you and explain, but we also have a former Royal Marine in our village that does war tours so we'll be happy to introduce you.
A former boulangerie, we have converted it into a sweet little traditional French cottage. Downstairs is the lounge with TV DVD and SKY free to view, leading into kitchen with french doors that open into the Georgian style conservatory which is the dining room giving the illusion you are floating on the pond... french doors from here lead out onto the terrace at the side of the pond terrace. The newly fitted kitchen has oven, 4 ring gas top, larder fridge, dishwasher.
A Godin wood burner that kicks out loads of heat. The kitchen's french windows open out into the dining conservatory, Georgian style looking directly out on to the best view of the garden - the pond with it's fish, water lilies & hundreds of black & green frogs... quite often goosey goose too! This is quite simply the best part of the garden!
Upstairs is a double bedroom... but please note the bedroom is in the eaves, so anyone that is above average height you may prefer our barn apartment which has a superking bed 6'6" long x 6' wide!
Jet Lag from flying in or a very long journey?...we can organise a meal for your arrival and or groceries for your 1st night/morning just ask.
We are totally ecological - all our products are biological, no chemicals, recycled containers and not tested on animals, recycling is part of our terms.
I'm sorry but unsuitable for children.
We have lots of pets to include 2 Llamas, 2 Alpacas , 2 kune kune pigs, 2 Hebridean sheep, 2 goats, 60+ chickens... we don't kill anybody & breed chickens purely for looks! Plus our 1 goose & 2 turkeys that have made it through Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter!!... in our home we have 5 little dogs & 5 cats... 2 of the dogs are quite elderly rescues - Monty now 20 I found at the side of the road beaten & starving...
Please do not book here if you don't like Church bells - (we are opposite the village church), we have cockerels that welcome the dawn and Stavros the donkey does bray, who is owned by our neighbours, but is convinced he belongs to us... regrettably he doesn't! .
We don't hear any of these noises they are just the rhythm of the countryside.
Free WIFI but note the house is 400 years old with stone walls in excess of a meter thick so the signal is not always the strongest in some places within the building.
There is a laundry room in the main house with washing machines & tumble driers.

The garden has 2 gazebos so if you want to mix you can or if you want to be private you can... the Llamas and the other animals are all curious about our visitors and Madge our Jack Russell is completely convinced you are there to play with her... again if you don't want Madge as company just tell her to go away or better still play with her!
Chickens quite often are pecking round the garden, one of the 5 cats possibly asleep in a bush, lots of wild birds as we have bird tables...the only noise you get is birdsong!

Regional Park: We are set in Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. Utah Beach located just 10 minutes away is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres this area being upgraded to a UNESCO site. The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast, is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty. This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach. The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, seafood lovers note the Oyster beds are located on Utah Beach and it's possible to buy Oysters at ridiculous low prices! Wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do! Don't forget GOLF plenty of courses. Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded. With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals. Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally
