On the 1st floor there is a large open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area in a brand new purpose built conservatory, here is a large dining table for 10, plus another seating area, leading out to the huge sun terrace with a patio table for 10, a Portuguese BBQ and sun beds.
In the living room is a TV (satellite Freeview programmes include BBC, ITV, Sky News, etc.), DVD player, CD player, big wood burner for the winter (logs included), a well-stocked book case, even jigsaws in case of emergency! Free WIFI throughout the house.
Bedrooms: Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, (1 double & 1 single ) and the family bathroom with a large enclosed shower and separate bath. On the ground floor are 2 bedrooms, 2 Italian shower rooms ensuite plus the laundry room. The large double room has an en suite shower room, the twin room with an ensuite Jack & Jill' shower room. Both bedrooms at the front of the house have French windows opening out into the garden.

The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, gas hob & electric oven, kettle, toaster, coffee maker and a large family-sized American fridge/freezer with chilled filtered water & ice on demand.
In the laundry room there are separate washing and drying machines, iron and ironing board.
Actually ON the famous WW2 Invasion Beach Utah Beach house has views across to Point du Hoc & Grandcamp Maisy with Omaha Beach, Arromanches & the Mulberry harbor, Gold, Juno, Sword, plus The American Cemetery all in close proximity 40 minutes away, Pegasus Bridge the furthest point from us is just an hour away, Bayeux is very close by. In the other direction are the beautiful fishing ports of St Vaast La Hougue & Cherbourg. Mont St Michel just over an hour away.
Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan are the 2 closest towns to Utah Beach with plenty supermarkets, shops, tourist attractions including museums and restaurants.
PLUS our Normandy Utah Beach house is set in the heart of The Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectares with 144 villages and towns within this Park in Normandy. Utah Beach is located on the eastern side of the peninsular is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres 500 meters from our house. The bird watching is incredible especially when the migratory birds pass over.
The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. A haven for photographers & those wanting to learn more about photography with the special light here.
The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty we are presently under going the transition in to a UNESCO site.
It is possible to have a day out visiting the Channel Islands, Jersey & Guernsey as there are ferries across on a regular daily basis from Granville, Portbail or Barneville Carteret. these ports on the west coast less than an hour away from us.
This area in Normandy is also famous for it's horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. Trotting Horses are trained everyday on Utah beach, further up the coast is Honfleur, Deauville & Le Harve under 2 hours away and you cross the fabulous Pont du Normandie on the way.
Giverney Monet's garden takes just over 2 hours to get to & is worth a visit.
Lots to do and see: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachting, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!
Yet in the summer the beach is paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or a busy day with the family on the beach, beach combing, shell fish gathering when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded.
With the bird sanctuary just a few hundred meters away we enjoy an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks. If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of harbor seals.
Huge mussels and oysters beds right opposite our house destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally.
Gourmet dining & spectacular sunrises: The house is on the beach – the other houses around are mainly holiday homes so are only opened up 2 weeks of the year – it is an incredibly tranquil and peaceful spot, but not completely isolated...we are also lucky enough to have some splendid restaurants around us, we keep a list in the house & do try them out ourselves!
The museum which has undergone a huge renovation project attracts in excess of 500,000 visitors per year, however, with our house tucked up in the dunes you won't be aware of any activity at all! Near the museum is Café Roosevelt.
Half way between Utah Beach and Ste Marie du Mont is a former farm that has been converted into an equestrian center with hotel and a restaurant.
The nearest village 4 kms away, Saint Marie du Mont which has the most beautiful church, 2 boulangeries, mini mart, bars and restaurants. St Vaast La Hougue 20 minutes away is a UNESCO site with the whole harbor surrounded by restaurants.
We positively welcome dogs, our vet that we have used for the past 13 years speaks excellent English to help with passports etc.
I could talk/type for hours about what there is to see & do here so I will list all that is within 1 hour from us, * Mont St Michel is 1hr 15 door to door...all I can say is there really is plenty to do and we really are in the heart.
We're 3 star Ministry of Tourism classified, this means we have all the things like smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, 1st Aid kit and also the Ministry of Tourisms' confidence that we are contactable in the event of an emergency or problem...one of the things we do offer is our concierge service - we are passionate about the area we have the fortune to live in and love to share our knowledge!

Jazz Festival May
Granville Mardi Gras
The weather here is mild - we're never blazing hot and in the winter rare for us to have snow or severe frosts...in fact the winter 2013 we didn't have a frost at all. Summer our temperatures are around the 22 - 26 C. The sea is on 3 sides of the peninsula with the Utah Beach side protected from the Atlantic weather. We do get rain in the winter!
In the heart of the Park National Cotentin & Bessin this unique area has marshes that flood every October through to March with the rest of the year lush meadows where world class trotting horses, herds of Normandy cows all peacefully graze. A conservation area where the environment is taken extremely seriously for not just wild birds but insects, wild flowers and the ancient houses built of mud.
Per square mile there are more Chateaux in Normandy that anywhere else in France.
Gardens open to the public. The 1st stone built castle against the Vikings, 100 years war, The Romans, D Day...it's all happened here! Cherbourg has the offshore forts that Louis 16th built that finally bankrupted France and lead to the French Revolution.
Bayeux with the Bayeux Tapestry, 2 Abbey's William the Conqueror and his wife Matilda.
Barfleur where William the Conqueror set sail from.

"A fabulous way to spend time!"
We have stayed with Tansy and Mike before but this was the first time in the Utah Beach house. It's in a great spot ( just 500m from the Utah Beach museum and just on the dunes set back from the beach itself ), it is immaculately clean, really well furnished and thoughtfully appointed and was just what we needed. The weather was incredible and so we were able to BBQ and eat outside on the patio. The house sleeps a larger group but is equally well suited to smaller groups like us. The house has great appliances which are essential when holidaying with a child and a dog ( as we were ) and it felt like a perfect holiday home rather than a place to stay. I would have liked to stay longer but I would happily come back again and make it our 3rd stay! Thanks Tansy and Mike- it really was perfect.
