The Lac de Gurcon which is only 10 minutes away from the house has been extensively rejuvenated/renovated this last year and is an amazing free facility with a huge swimming area/lake, sandy beach, two restaurants and lovely walking and picnicking areas.

There are lots of other activities to enjoy in the area including the famous Ste Foy la Grande and Bergerac markets on Saturdays, kayaking on the Dordogne River, and visits to numerous vineyards to taste wine. St Emilion, with it's famous wines, is only 35 minutes away and the beautiful Medoc area only 2 hours away.

The old City of Bordeaux deserves a visit from many perspectives as does the Dordogne area around Sarlat to which there is a scenic railway.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

St Meard de Gurcon is a small french village in the Dordogne one hour from Bordeaux and only 35 minutes from Bergerac.

It is in a wine area, the local wines being Montravel, Bordeaux Superior and not far from the St Emilion and Castillon areas. The vines look stunning and cover mile after mile of land.

The pace of life is very french. The village church clock chimes at midday for the traditional two hour lunch period to start and everyone is so friendly and polite. It is a pleasure to experience some time here.

It is only 1 hour from the Medoc wine region and 2 hours from the atlantic coast at Archachon.

The local farmers grow sunflowers which an amazing sight in June/July.

So glad you had a wonderful stay at the house in St Meard. I know you had a problem with the wifi for which I apologise. It has worked for everyone else since we had it connected. The password is a little long but that is Orange.fr for you. Hope to see you return sometime with your family perhaps at another time of year.
