This ideal family property is situated in a traditional chalet style building with superb views of the slopes and valley. The accommodation, on two floors, is comprised of a living/dining area with comfortable furnishings including a double sofa bed, open plan kitchen, double/twin bedroom with shower and separate W.C., entrance hall and balcony. On the upper floor is a gallery bedroom with double/twin bed with en-suite bath/W.C. and separate changing/wardrobe area.

The Lungau region is a relatively unknown area of Austria with quaint traditional villages, beautiful scenery and homely gasthofs, where delicious local fare is served by friendly hosts. 25 minute drive to Obertauern.
The St Margarethen area
St Margarethen lies on the edge of the Mur Valley in a rural area of beautiful old farmhouses and lush pasture.
Winter activities include down hill and cross country skiing, sleigh rides and ice skating.
In Summer there are a variety of hill and valley walking trails, horse riding, tennis and swimming. An 18 hole golf course is within a 5 minute walk.

I have now stayed at the property in both the winter and summer seasons, and have to say that both exceeded my expectations hugely. The apartment represents the perfect base for a ski holiday, in a quiet and undiscovered region. It is well furnished, warm and homely with a lovely log burning stove to keep you warm after a hard days skiing! The kitchen provides all the facilities needed to self cater, but there is also a number of traditional Austrian restaurants within walking distance that offer excellent authentic food, at very reasonable prices. The rooms are all spacious and comfortable, and there is a boot room/ski locker downstairs as well as an underground car park meaning that the apartment is also extremely practical, and more than spacious enough for four adults to stay in comfort. The resort itself is fabulous in winter, with a range of skiing defying the resorts 'off the radar' nature. There are challenges for all levels of skier from complete beginner through to the all mountain off pieste adventurer; who can enjoy some of the vast off pieste runs that are available in the region to challenge even the most daring skiers/snowboarders. The lifts are just a short walk from the apartment, and there are 3 other resorts that are only up to a 30 min drive away if you have the luxury of a hire car at your disposal. The snow quality was excellent during our stay, but there is also a full range of snow making facilities so you should always be sure of finding somewhere to ski; besides the warm and inviting mountain side huts that are dotted throughout the area provide more than enough motivation to head inside and hang the boots up for the day if the conditions are not perfect! What surprised me the most was the variety of activities there were avaliable to undertake in the region during the summer period. We travelled in early September and were greeted by fabulous weather. There are a number of excellent cycle trails in the area, which are rated by difficulty, and are suited to all. There is also an extensive network of challenging mountain bike trails in the area offering a real alpine challenge to those who fancy exploring off the beaten track a little. There is a range of outdoor swimming pools, and various activities dotted around. It is clear that the resort is making a real effort to attract tourists in both seasons, and the rewards for those that travel are very much worth it. What's more the Apartment Centrale offers the perfect base to explore it all from, before relaxing in comfort in the evenings! Very much recommended. |

We stayed a the apartment duing June / July 2010, i.e. outside the sking season. Our plan was to relax and do a little walking in the mountains. There was plenty of well marked walks, some quite tough, but all very enjoyable. I also played one round of golf at the local golf club, a bit new but ok for a medium to high handicaper |

Very comfy appartment and plenty of room for five of us - all adults. Constant hot water with a wonderful deep bath in the en suite which was perfect after a days ski-ing. The appartment was clean and well equipped, the wood burner was great and we used it each night. Small kitchen area but we manged to eat extremely well - good small local shop although most of our food came down in one of the cars from the Netherlands. Wonderful views from the balcony which doubled up as our second fridge! Secure ski lockers in the basement was an added bonus. Literally five minutes walk from the slopes and excellent access to the Katschberg area. We are all experienced skiers but found more than enough ski-ing for us all to enjoy the week visiting all the local resorts. Wonderful mountain restaurants and beautiful scenery make this a perfect place. Nightlife is non-existent but we did eat out one night at the hotel who gave us a very warm welcome and delicious food. Perfect place to relax with no noise at night to distrub you. We stayed here last February for a week during half term week - due to grown up daughter being a teacher, and although it was half term the slopes were almost empty all week, any queues we saw at the initial chair lift are the only ones we saw all week! First lift up is old and slow but from then on most were faster although as you are in Austria there are a lot of drag lifts still. Four of us came via German Wings from Stansted and then booked a private transfer form Salzburg all of which worked well. We would not hesitate to recommend this appartment for comfort, ease of booking and access to lovely ski areas. We had never realised how much fun we could have on the A1 - this is the name of the run back to the village at the end of the day! |
